  1. I panic when Durbin takes the hill, but i like the livan pickup. im no expert but i do watch every game, and last year he did work when the braves met. on that note i was trying to figure out why livan has not been used as much as durbin...wonder if hes having trouble getting loose quick in the pen?

Livan did a great job of beating the Braves his whole career. That's why we signed him, Wren appears to only know about/ cares about getting players that have a good history against the Braves. Livan hasn't really been impressive in his 4 appearances this year. He's pitched 7.2 innings, but given up 4 runs all earned with 11 hits.

  2. Glad to see Diaz back in a Braves uniform.

He looked good in it at the end of last season too  ;).

Looks like the Braves have the same problem as last year. Can't buy a hit with runners on. Just had Pastornicky on 3rd with one out. Nothing comes of it.

  3. The deal for Juan Francisco might be one of the most one-sided trades I've seen the Braves make.. terrible trade.

To be honest I don't know a lot about either player. It actually seemed like both teams were exchanging very good prospects. If anything though, I'd say the Braves have a slight edge given that Francisco has a little MLB experience and performed well during that time. But, again, I'm not familiar with Hoover or Francisco.

    Here's what we got:

Francisco is lazy, injury prone, overweight, error prone, and strikeout prone. But he does have a power swing.

Francisco, 24, also did not endear himself to the Reds for, among other things, showing up to camp overweight and failing to properly rehabilitate a right calf injury over the winter.

    Here's what we gave up:

Hoover, 24, went 25-19 with a 3.14 ERA in 99 appearances, including 61 starts, over four years (2008-11) in the Braves farm system and he was converted from a starter to reliever last season.

Jocketty said this of Hoover: "We saw him again [saturday]. He was 92-94 mph yesterday. He's a sinker-slider guy. He's a late-inning guy. He's young. He's got three options and he's got a power arm.

    Terrible deal.

OMG we could have gotten so much more for Hoover. From what I understand Francisco's work ethic is non existent, and he's only likely to put on more weight. This is a direct quote from Dusty Baker "Hopefully, he'll (Francisco) find happiness and get it together in Atlanta,". But he does have some pop, and maybe a change of scenery will do him good.

I really don't understand Wren. We have plenty of pitching and we could have put a guy like Hoover in the bullpen that could also start spot. Instead we sign Hernandez, and trade Hoover for a project.

  4. Oh and apparently we just traded for signed the pitcher who was just cut from the Astros, Livan Hernandez.

I like that signing assuming he was cheap. Although I think he adds a lot less for the Braves then he would for most other teams with less pitching depth.

$750,000 is what's being reported. When I first heard it I thought he was going to be the 5th starter, but apparently he's coming out of the bullpen.

  5. Just saw we're interested in Xavier Nady!

Oh Boy! Just what we need, another often injured backup that with any luck can play in 80 games, hit 4 hrs with 30 rbi's. It only took Frank Wren all offseason and spring training to realize we are a few pieces short, but if we can get Nady all our problems are solved!

  6. If Chipper can play 90 games this season it will be a miracle.

DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones will have arthroscopic surgery Monday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

Jones injured the knee Thursday when he slipped while stretching before batting practice. It also was just before his scheduled news conference, where he announced he was planning to retire after this season.

"We were talking on the field to get ready to go up for the news conference, he called (manager) Fredi (Gonzalez) in off the field to let him know he thought he had just injured his knee and it didn't feel right," Braves general manager Frank Wren said Saturday. "Just a strange coincidence."

Jones, who turns 40 next month, suffered a similar injury last summer, when he had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

"When he had it last year, it was only 17 days, and talking to Chipper, he feels like he can make it back for our home opener (April 13)," Gonzalez said. "The difference between this year and last year, last year he was in midseason form when he did it. Now he's in conditioning mode, so it's possible it could be another week.

"I feel like he can come back and be fine. I'm not worried that he won't come back and be able to play and be a productive player. I've seen him do it too many times."

Dr. Marvin Royster, who had performed all five of Jones' previous knee surgeries, was in Florida and looked at the MRI Friday, then examined Jones Saturday morning, when he diagnosed the torn meniscus.

"It just stinks. I feel bad for the guy, because he's trying to go out on a good note and then this happens," catcher David Ross said. "But the one thing about Chipper, he heals faster than anybody I've ever seen. Knowing him, he'll get back in about a week and a half. I just hope for him he gets healthy and gets back and has a great last year."

The plan now is to move Martin Prado from left field to third base, and mix and match in left, most likely with a platoon of Eric Hinske and Matt Diaz

  7. Well after the Braves all but officially announced Pastornicky as the Opening Day SS it now appears that Andrelton Simmons may be the man to get the first hack at it. Pastornicky has gone something like 3-26 this Spring and Simmons is hitting around .290. Simmons is said to have a great glove and hit an even .300 last year but has never played above high-A ball. I figure any production we get out of SS this year is just a plus.

Watching the game vs. the Tigers now. espn just said that there is a split between the on fields staff and the front office on who to start. The coaches/players want Simmons while the office wants Pastornicky.

  8. I can't remember a championship team that played an entire season with a question mark at SS. Why can't Braves management make a move for someone at that position? It's beyond frustrating.

Frank Wren. In 1999 he took the Orioles from the one of the best teams with one of the highest payroll in MLB strait to the basement. They fired him after one season, but they haven't got their act right sense. He believes in the farm system, which to his credit is probably the best in baseball, but I have to question if we have so much talent in the farm why not trade one of the 8 big league ready pitchers and get a SS who can hit.

  9. Good thing we are getting all of our L's out of the way!

I`m curious as to who mentioned that Chipper was huge and bloated. Just watched the Braves play and he looked in pretty good shape to me. No excess weight and pretty quick.

I wish this weren't the case, but Chipper looks as if he has put on a few pounds. Doesn't mean he still can't hack, and some say this picture was taken at a bad time on a windy day. But this article doesn't give me much hope.

  10. Well it looks like the Bravos are still in the September slump. They have been terrible this spring. Pitching, hitting, coaching, you name it it as been all around bad. There has been only one game where more that 3 runs were scored, and only 3 games where 3 or less runs were given up. I love Chipper and want him to get healthy, but the way it looks he might not even play 80 games this year. So far this spring the team is 1-9.

  11. No problem using $$$ but be very careful modifing a Mod's post g.  >:(

:-X My bad. But how's the rotation going to look this year? I know Burnett is finally gone but who is behind CC, Hughes and Kuroda? I know we have plenty of arms if ya'll want to trade for a bat .
