Take a guy from 3k yards and 30 TDs to half of that?
Shall we keep going?
Right. I’m agreeing that they wasted Bo’s talent. Kent Austin did the opposite and turned Malik Willis into an MVP.

Bryan Harsin on repeat
I would agree, but he put Malik Willis in the NFL, and had him looking like a world beater when he wasn’t even a contributor at Auburn.

Presser about Malik that should give everyone some insight as to the type of coach Auburn is getting in regards to QB development. Haven’t heard a coach talk like this about QBs at Auburn maybe ever. Seems like he gets what it takes to coach a successful QB.
I would be happy with Ken as OC.

Do you think we can pull Mike Bobo? Seems like most of us were ready to have him move on. Also, most people would attribute his success to the players he has. But they wouldn’t blame our lack of success on our players.
I would actually prefer Kent Austin who can do exactly what Hugh wants and have Hugh call the plays.
Or someone proven and currently having success who can come in and run their offense without Hugh.
Anything in between is an experiment.

This was always going to be a tough season. I think the real problem is that the team did so well in the Georgia and Alabama games that fans got their hopes up where they should not be. This is a rebuilding year for a team that had lots of holes and issues from the previous coaching staffs.
Next year will also be a rebuilding year, so be ready for more heart break. We may only win 1-2 more games. We will lose ugly in some.
Look at what Florida State has endured to get back on top. Fortunately they stuck with Norvell when many fans were ready to move on.

Reminder that we have the 18th most talented team in the country, according to 247 rankings. And 7th in the SEC.
Does it look like that to anyone?
According to the NFL draft, the Browns, Texans, and Jets have the most talented rosters in the NFL. My guess is that if you don’t have the key players in the key positions, it doesn’t matter.

I mean, it was wildly reported that he initially tried to hire Nix as WR coach (before bumping to OC offer.
Unless we're just going to go with the "all of our insiders everywhere are wrong" and the Peeler talk was all BS (we've heard he was too expensive too) and the Heard talk was just wrong....then we can do that too
Davis was available for hire for the last 4 weeks and we're just getting to him and he's magically the first choice, 5* hire. I'm just laughing at that mentality.
I've said everything you're stating as a positive and don't disagree.
First choices are not always the best choices. I'd much rather have Freeze than Lane. It was said that Lane was the first choice. Marcus Davis is a good hire even if he was the 20th choice.

WRs he coached had dramatic jumps in productivity in one year. However, each year he coach at a new school with a new offensive coordinator. Much of this jump could be attributed to a change in the offensive system. I choose to give him a good amount of the credit. Great hire of an up and coming Auburn coach and alum.
-
He’s coming in as a WR right? I read he has run a 4.5 40 and that Freeze likes tall WRs.

But the same Dave Aranda thought that he needed to be fired after this year's performance. That's enough for me.
Maybe Aranda let him go because he can run the defense without Roberts and was pushed by boosters or himself to hire someone with more recruiting prowess. Auburn needed someone who can run a defense without supervision and can make up with talented assistant coaches who can recruit.

Probably a little of both. That was his mentor, so I imagine he deferred to him initially.
Hugh freeze calls plays in the redzone, Phil calls them outside the redzone....

I imagine CPM will be the one calling plays. This is the first time I think Hugh has hired a caliber OC like this.
I wonder if Art Briles called the plays or Phil.

The questions remain who's offense are we running and who will call the plays?

I watched a little game film and it seems like he runs a 3-4 base that switches to 2-5 at times. I know everything says he runs a multiple defense. It will be interesting to see.
Also, his defenses are very aggressive and can be takeaway heavy. 2021 Baylor team had 19 ints., 42 sacks, and 8 Fumble recoveries. Sure looks like 2022 was a dud because of the loss of talent. Looking back every unit he takes over increases in sack total.

The case for Deon is this..He will be the best recruiter in the country. That is 100% of what it takes to win in college football with what's left over dedicated to "coaching players up".

Do we have to go in house now for Offensive Coordinator? ie Eric Kiesau. Or do you think we can pull someone more coveted?
Sincerely asking
-
Here is what I don't get and seems fishy to me. I'm a glass half full fan, just as a reminder. He was fired from Syracuse and Tennessee (not sure why). He has a number of one year stops. ie Maryland and Colorado ( again, not sure why). It's hard to judge someone who moves around a bunch.

Will we see more staff changes?

Do you think Kent Austin would step in as QB coach? Or will they bring someone else in?
I could see Kent Austin, and Derek Nix, serving as co-coordinators maybe.
