The next head bball coach at AU will be Steven Pearl. Folks just need to understand this and accept it. It’s going to be a Pearl dynasty at AU. Or at least attempt to be one. I’m perfectly fine with it. The 2 biggest blue bloods just promoted in the last few years from  within a guy who had no head coaching experience. Who are we to turn our nose up at that? Steven already has more assistant coaching experience as scheyer did when he took over and maybe even Hubert Davis as well. Steven Pearl is a lottery ticket and I see it as low risk high reward.

I mean you are probably right but I would be really disappointed in that decision. Its been proven that you can win at Auburn now in basketball so I see no reason why we can't attract coaches with actual coaching experience. If SP wants to be a head basketball coach and believes he can handle the job he should be out there right now proving it. Go prove you can put together a roster, a coaching staff, and get everyone pulling in the same direction. I'll agree with your lottery analogy. But more in the sense that there would be a very small chance of him succeeding as head coach at AU.

Nah. Bruce could go get a better option over CM but he's a good teammate and loyal to Auburn. I suspect him to split time with Jahki Howard.

I think he'll back up CBM and Howard will compete with Chaney for minutes at the 4. People can of course slide around as needed as the season goes but i think the expected depth chart is this:

    PG: Pegues and TBD
    SG: Denver Jones and Pettiford
    SF: CBM and CM
    PF: Chaney and Jahki
    Center: Broome and Cardwell

  3. Really excited we get to enjoy watching Cardwell play and interact with the fan base for one more season! Guys like this might be a rarity going forward. Enjoy him while we can people! Welcome back!!

  4. Wow, i didn't see this one coming. Thats a hell of a hire by Arkansas after losing their coach to USCw. They needed a splash type hire and they got it! I don't know what the ceiling is for Cal's teams at this point. I'm not convinced the load up on 1 year players formula is one that can bring a school championships in this day and age, but Cal will field super talented teams, win a lot of games, and keep them in the news constantly and thats not a bad situation for arky IMO.

Now what dominoes will fall as Kentucky goes looking for a coach? Oats is a possibility i'd have to think.....I would say any school with a coach they really like should be a little worried. That Kentucky bball money goes deep!

  5. Wondering when will wades name would start popping up again. Dude had some talented team at LSU. Have to wonder if he can still pull that off in NIL era where everyone can pay guys.

Chris beard…I’d feel for ol miss fans if that happened. I don’t think it likely unless arky pays their coaches a lot more than ol miss. But they do love their basketball at arky so they might

  6. Hate to see him go. Definitely one of my favorite players on the team. Thought he improved a lot from his first to second season and was looking forward to seeing him improve even more. Would have much rather kept Tre versus Aden. But maybe we keep neither and start fresh next season. Sports yay 🙄

  7. It was a great season. Also really a shame it won’t be remembered as one because of one loss. Even one as unexpected and uncalled for as the Yale loss. But that is life when expectations are high like they were for Auburn at the end of the season. Hope everyone cools down and fans and team alike can pick themselves up from it.

UK is snake bit against the three lately. Gave up 11 threes against A&M. 15 against Oakland.

There is no college team that can withstand 15+ threes and still win.

There are numerous NBA games, even in this day, where less than 15 threes are made.

Oakland got hot and that allowed them to compete with Kentucky but that's not the whole story. Kentucky made crucial errors down the stretch with turnovers and jacking up 3s to match Oakland. That Sheppard guy played especially poorly at the end. Oakland also had a guy (Townsend maybe?) who beat the hell out of Kentucky down low. So yeah it was an amazing game from Oakland but it took mistakes from Kentucky on top of that for them to lose. Also a good defensive team and coaching staff runs oakland off the 3pt line and doesn't allow 15 3s. But that was Kentucky all year. Look great for a few games and then not so good. This game didn't come out of nowhere.

The defense I witnessed down the stretch against AU, bammer & TN was on point. If they bring that defense, they have a good shot at the Final 4 because they have the offense.

And then the defense against A&M in their last game? They can make it to the final four I’m not arguing that. It’s an impressive bunch of talented players. I just think they are missing something. Otherwise they wouldn’t have lost so many games this season.

  10. I think Tennessee has a chance at it. I know they didn’t end the season great but that’s a really good team if they can find the balance between feeding the star vs keeping everyone else involved. Kentucky is possible based on talent but highly unlikely they can string enough good games together. Hope the others outside of bama win a couple of games to help SEC rep but would be surprised if any others make it past sweet 16

  11. I think we are set up really well for our front court next season. I feel much better about having Chaney as our experienced 4 next year. He has started playing really good ball at the end of the season. Things don’t look too fast for him now. He and Jacki should hold things down at the 4 spot. That Jacki kid is supposed to be all kinds of athletic. Be fun to have another high flyer at that position!

Center is more up in the air. But I feel pretty good that Cardwell comes back. Not expecting Broome too just based on how they talked about him almost going pro last year after getting good feedback. Figure that feedback is better now that he has improved his 3 pt shot and soon better all around offense. Scott will be in play as well but I have no idea how ready he is. I’d be worried if we didn’t sign an impact starter type at center during the offseason. Not panicked…but worried
