  1. Hey guys, please note that Aubiefifty lists herself as a female. No DEI or woke here. Let's give her credit for listing her sex. Too many posts, including one of my own, that ignored her listing.

    No.

    He won’t.

He ain’t coached anybody up in years.

Arkansas ain’t the draw for talent that UK is.

Unless Walmart is paying for players well, He’ll fall on his face.

If he does get talent, they’ll be uncoached.

No one has done less with more in NCAA history.

Calapari is likely a very good hire for Arkansas. Prior to moving to UK he took Memphis to a Finals game against Kansas. If Memphis had been successful with a strategic foul at the end of the game, they would have won the championship that year.  So he will know the talent-rich Memphis landscape and should be successful recruiting there. He also likely will have fewer players who are one-and done at Arkansas and that should help him build some team chemistry and leadership, which was missing at UK. He also will have a large NIL budget to recruit and hang on to players. I'll be surprised if Calapari doesn't do well at Arkansas.

Just to attach some numbers to mediocrity and nuthin

Last year Auburn finished 36th in the Directors Cup (a more or less overall ranking of a school's athletic teams performances)

That was 10th in the SEC (Texas and Oklahoma finished higher than us too if you are looking to the future)

    2 Texas

    5 Florida

    6 Tennessee

    7 Georgia

    9 LSU

    12 Alabama

    13 Arkansas

    18 Kentucky

    23 Oklahoma

    24 Texas A&M

    33 South Carolina

    36 Auburn

    39 Ole Miss

    50 Missouri

    56 Vanderbilt

    57 Mississippi State

It is a bit disheartening to see that we have Miss State's former AD.

I wonder why the women play 4 quarters instead of 2 halves.

Great question. They play the same 4 quarters now in lacrosse, which used to be halves. The NCAA must believe women sports need more rest now than in the past with all the weak guys currently playing women's sports.

Ehh, Bama actually has Mark Sears on their team, and they aren't getting past the Tar Heels on Friday.  They wouldn't beat any of the remaining 4 teams left in the East regional.  Sears is solid, but I don't think this Auburn team could make it past UConn to ever get to the NC game even with Sears.

Unfortunately, this post did not age well.

  6. The athletic Grand Canyon team reminded me of the AU team in some respects, namely, chaotic, careless with the ball, and prone to turnovers and very poor shot selection. This is the the same reckless play that kept Yale in the game with us and ultimately allowed them to come back and beat us.

  7. Well look on the bright side. We only lost to Yale by 2. UConn would likely have embarrassed us by 20+ if we played the way we did yesterday and SDSU would have beaten us too. After Yale began doubling Broome, limiting him with the ball in the second half, our offense was offensively disappointing. Just too much AU carelessness with the ball. In the end Yale's poise and discipline won out, with the hot shooting from Poulakidas carrying the day. Best wishes to Broome, Jaylin and the other departing players. I'll miss seeing you all in AU uniforms.

SEC is not overrated. The Tournament is about matchups. It's also one game. None of the teams you just mentioned play both good defense and offense. It's one or the other. And all it takes is a bad offensive night to lose. Auburn had no business losing to Moo State, Kentucky, or even Tenn. If you have a good defense (which kept us in those aforementioned games), you at least have a fighting chance if you can make a few stops and shots. Moo State and SCar are not great offensive teams. Moo State ran into a seasoned Tom Izzo team and South Carolina was small compared to Oregon, nor do they really fill it up offensively. Kentucky, well, requires their offense to win games. If they could actually play some defense they probably win.

I get your point, but 1 winner out of 4 games yesterday by SEC teams is a very poor showing, especially when all the SEC losers were higher seeds. Very disappointing.

It’s all about matchups, so CBS will wait to decide after all Friday games have been played.

    It’s all about the ratings.

So, if it is AU vs UAB, then a lot of eyes and interest primarily in the state of Alabama, but if SDSU vs AU, then national interest and higher potential ratings? So how does the latter translate in terms of a likely game time for us in Round 2? A prime time Sunday evening game?

I had forgotten San Diego State made a final four run last year as well. 3 of last years final 4 teams in one region. Crazy

If we advance to play SDSU, then Chad Baker-Mazara's knowledge of the Aztec team and coaching strategies (from 2021-2022) may be helpful in preparing for them. CBM received that season the Mountain West's "6th Man" award while playing for SDSU. Hopefully we have the opportunity to benefit from his insights if we and SDSU both advance to Round 2.

  11. Any best guess or historical precedent for the likely game time on Sunday if we move on to play in the second round?  All I'm finding is that Round 2 game times will be set sometime on Friday night. I anticipate we would play the first game on Sunday maybe at 1 or 2 pm Pacific Time. This sound about right?

A loss to Purdue or UConn isn’t the same as a loss to App State. If that’s the case imagine if Auburn had lost to Alabama State or AAMU

So I should feel better about the loss to UTk or UK this season than the loss to App St? I don't.

bammer played six tournament teams before hitting the SEC schedule. They went 2-4 against them. Two of those losses are a 1 and a 2 seed.

But they lost. Should we have played more top teams and lost to raise our seed? That is illogical!

Seems like Reece Davis (or someone else on the ESPN show yesterday) stated that the seeding placements are not allowed to be uniform down the ladder. Meaning #1 can’t always be aligned in the same bracket with #16, #2 with #15, #3 with #14 and #4 with #13. That they must alternate. I don’t recall the exact wording, but it was something to that effect.

It would not have been too hard to place Bama in the East bracket rather than AU since that is where Bama was seeded by overall ranking. There is no doubt that UA was given VERY favorable seeding for whatever reason and we were not.

I don’t disagree in the least.

In fact, I applaud the committee for using simple math to determine seedings. It keeps personal bias out of it.

I saw a graphic on the CBS show yesterday of all-time records of lower seeds in Round 1 vs their higher seeds. The records were sequentially aligned with exactly what the committee seeded them as.

Meaning the 9-seed had the best all-time record, then the 10-seed, etc, down to the 16-seed having the worst all-time record in Round 1.

In other words, the committee’s formula gets it right more than they get it wrong.

I doubt that the Committee's personal bias is removed when it comes to regional placement. I've questioned elsewhere (as have others on this site) why Bama as the 16th overall seed (weakest of the 4th line seeds) is not in the bracket with top seed UCONN (rather than us). UCONN wonders too. Indeed, UA got placed in the bracket with UNC, the 4th overall seed and weakest of the top line seeds. Looks fishy to me.
