  1. Actually a change at qb might be the answer. Of course JS is an awesome qb that in the right system may win a Heisman. However, when we force run the ball 3/4 of every game, we should probably have a running qb to atleast freeze the D a little. Man just saying that makes me wanna face palm my own post. We need a new coach yesterday

In IMO, it seems like Gus is doing everything he can to give Auburn cause to fire him. With 5 conference left, I see Auburn only winning 2 and losing 3 of them.

We've won our last 3 games (all conference games) 144-47. Get a grip

A lot of us has a red flag about that & vocalized it loudly.

As for the rest of your post if he isn't QB1 his Sr HS year then yes he is unlikely to be a QB at AU. There is precedent though for him having a real shot down the line if he is only QB1 1 full year in high school if he puts in the work & focus. Malik Willis was only QB1 1 year in high school and he continues to impress everyone at AU as a freshman.

Bottom line is the book on Joey's future at AU has not been written yet 1 way or the other.

I thought I was reading that he wasn't likely to be the main starting qb as a Sr.   Should he start and look good then I may change my prediction :P

  4. Too early to predict he never plays meaningful snap as a qb at AU?

I swear I've seen this story play out 20 times and it almost never works out. Seems like I've seen it as recently as last year...Oh yeah...JF3...everyone excused that he didn't start as qb in juco...now he can't even crack the top 4 at qb. There's usually a reason these guys don't start at qb.  If an excuse is even attempted that the guy ahead of him is better at qb..well then that's a pretty clear indicator....usually anyways. Maybe he'll be the exception :dunno: (unlikely)

No need to wait for fall.  The comparison of the two quarterbacks aren't apples to apples.   JS is apples and SW is oranges.   JS is the starter and everyone else is in play for backup.   Folks AU has the best QB it's had since Cam.   If he doesn't get hurt , you will witness the best QB to play for consecutive years at auburn since Sullivan

If he is that good, he is eligible to go pro after this year so...

I think you bring up a very big concern.  If it truly is CL's offense and he's deciding who plays, I think we'll have a starter named shortly after A-Day.  If it's one of those, they're all competing hard, and everybody is making progress, then we'll know GM hasn't truly let go of the offense.  I expect to see a fairly firm depth chart coming out of spring practice if Lindsey is truly in control.

And don't give me the "why let your opponent know who your QB is?" crap.  You think Belichick gives a crap if people know Brady or Garoppolo is starting?  Or Saban cares if you know he's starting a true freshman?  Get your starter named.  Get him reps and chemistry with the other starters and worry about executing your offense as opposed to how the other team is going to react.

No possible way they name a starter before fall. White has a broken arm and won't be available for spring ball. Yes that sucks, but SW deserves his shot to retain his own position. If they name Stidham in the spring, if I'm SW I'm transferring immediately before I use another year of eligibility. If that happens, then we've screwed our entire program should Stidham get hurt. That would be a terrible plan.

I really don't like seeing "Air Raid" associated with an coach wearing Auburn colors. The SEC is too quick and athletic to rely on a horizontal passing game, so I hope that's not what we're heading towards. We have to be able to pass, but also attack vertically. Otherwise, teams will continue to stack the line and have a field day in our backfield.

Good write-up. It should be a telling season.

The only teams that have beaten bama the past few years were primarily teams great at passing the ball. AU is the only exception there in 2013...but even then they were beaten by the qb position (NM was one of the best decision makers in the zone read I've ever seen). So while "air raid" may not be good, being able to go pass heavy if needed could prove huge.

Early, upon announcement, I was lukewarm to it to say the least.  However, the more video I see/info I read and IF Gus is true to his word at the press announcement, that CCL has full control, then added to the talent coming back I'm rapidly warming up to him.

    Agree with this ^^^

I go along with you there. I also quit watching the NFL for a number of reasons, most of which is the lack of the running game. Unfortunately the game has changed in both college, and professional football in the last 25 years. Linemen allowed to hold on every play, and receivers getting away with pushing off has drastically changed the game. I believe it has been by design to a degree. Offense sells tickets I guess.

    This is truth ^^^^^

I wonder if the holding allowed is by design to protect qbs.   Unfortunately, it's only a few teams qbs that actually get the extra protection

You are wrong. You just don't want to admit it. Lindsey served only one year with Propst out of a decade while serving as a HS coach in some form. To say that Lindsey "came from a coaching tree of sleeze ball HS coaches" just because of that one year is downright deceptive if not a blatant lie. And if im an ass for making you eat your mistake, so be it.

I find it highly revealing that nobody else has a problem with that statement.

He worked with Probst. So did Pruitt. That's part of his coaching tree. That is a fact. You claiming it's not part of his tree is the blatent lie. I also said none of that had to be bad meaning it doesn't have to have any bearing on who he is or what he took from those situations. You are finding the tiniest details to argue ad nauseam with and it's downright petty and disturbing. Nobody cares anymore what you think because you have destroyed your credibility by treating everyone like garbage. Maybe if you occasionally acted like a remotely decent person more people would engage in regular conversations with you. You are the one to blame for the fact that everyone on this board wants you to stop posting.  Personally I think you just need a break to calm down and regain some semblance of composure. Right now you are out of control to the point that even if you make a good point somewhere, it is going to get lost in the constant vile you are spewing. It's at the point where if you don't either stop treating everyone like garbage or decide to take a break on your own, the mods are gonna force you to take one.   Try being a decent person, quit cussing at everyone and make comments without attacking every possible detail you can come up with a reason to not agree with.  "Calling" someone on something you don't agree with by treating them like garbage is petty and childish. You lose any and all credibility your disagreement may have ever had when you react that way. The reason everyone here now reacts to you with an attitude is staring back at you in the mirror.  Change the way you treat people. That's the only way your opinion will ever matter.

You gave a list of negatives and flaws before you said you wouldn't hold the flaws against him.

One of the detrimental issues you mentioned was that "Chip Lindsey came from a HS coaching tree of sleezeball coaches" even though His resume says otherwise. One stint and one year with Propst doesn't change the fact.

I don't mean to nitpick you but if you pass something off an inaccuracy as fact then I will say something. And I really couldn't give two sh**s about who I piss off. I don't care if two hundred people agree with you, I will say you are wrong.

Lmao. I still wasn't wrong. Quit being an ass and sleep it off.

Ok. Chip on board. Whether you like him or not, this is our OC. Let's give the guy a chance and see what he can do. His said in press conference that he is hanging up the clipboard and turning the offensive show over to Lindsey. Let's see what he can do with it. It will be different looking offense. I would think more balanced and play calling less unpredictable. Let's see what that looks like with the returning talent on the team. Excited that qb's will be coached up and rather than the position being a weakness on the team, it should be a strength. Time to get unified and get pumped about next season. Put in the work.

I agree with this. There were certainly a ton of more experienced guys out there but not likely any that we could have hired due to Gus's seat being an inferno.

The one thing most of us worry about is Gus micromanaging. Heck he claimed he was done calling plays before the LSU game this past season and that it was up to Rhett from there on out.  By almost all accounts that only lasted a couple games and he either took it back or micromanaged it into the ground. If he does this to CL, they'll both be unemployed in December. I think CL simply bringing fresh ideas to a talented team and eliminating some of the absolute idiocy we witnessed this year could easily account for 3-4 more wins if the defense is solid again. So, while there is reason for concern, there is likely more reason for optimism.

You're the one not getting it.  Again I have to explain that he has coached with many other sets of coaches and is legitimately in other much deeply rooted coaching trees, which makes one year of working in a different coaching tree extremely insignificant. So insignificant that it isn't worth bitching about as a matter of fact.

    What is your point @FoundationEagle

I never bitched. You are the one all over this thread bitching at everyone. Again you don't read very well. In my original post I said that I wasn't holding any of those things against him because none of them had to be bad. It was just one of the parts of his past/experience. Completely missed that point there didn't you?  Seriously, step away from the computer.  You're just pissing everyone off for no reason at this point.

Well this is wrong. He only worked with one bad apple and only briefly. He is as much of the Tandy Gerelds and Mothershed football tree which emphasized faith and football.

"This guy is from a coaching tree of sleezeballs in HS. "

"Tree" doesn't have to mean he worked WITH them, just within the same tree or for the same person. Probst and Pruitt = sleezeballs

Twice is all I'm explaining it.  You've already quoted me twice since this.  Read before you react next time.

  15. 9 minutes ago, aujeff11 said:

This is not true. He worked with one sleezeball.

So you're just trying to nitpick everyone's post you can in this thread to see if you can have 20 arguments going at once then?  "Tree" doesn't have to mean he worked WITH them, just within the same tree or for the same person. Probst and Pruitt = sleezeballs

  16. This is me saying my peace and then I'm done.

I don't feel the warm and fuzzies about this hire. This is a guy that has a grand total of 4 years as a college coach. This is a guy that only spent 1 of those years at a remotely major university and it was out west. This is a guy that coincidentally came from HS just like Gus. This is a guy that studied under Gus before. This is a guy that has never had to recruit SEC caliber players.  This is a guy that hired Kodi as a RB coach at his first major gig (who never played or coached RBs before). This is a guy that only has a very few years experience not running a HS spread offense.  This guy is from a coaching tree of sleezeballs in HS.  This is a guy that's never been more than an analyst in a conference with quality defense.  This is a guy who a large part of his "success" in college is based around a qb he coached in HS (will never have 6 years with a qb again). This is a guy that similar to Gus was an unknown out of HS so defenses may not know his tendencies yet but could be the just like Gus...once SEC defenses find his weakness it's all over.

That said, if he truly can develop qbs at Auburn and can just remotely call a decent game, with Stidham and White available, this team should win 10 games.  I have listed all my concerns above, but I'm not going to hold any of those against him because none of them have to be bad things. So until he proves otherwise, War Eagle Chip. Welcome aboard.

If Saban hired him the question would then be why did Gus let him get away? He's a proven qb coach and OC who isn't afraid to throw it. Isn't that what AU needed? Or is it people just wanted Gus gone regardless?

    It's the second part

I didn't watch any of the game as I had to listen to it on the radio while driving. But the time Horace did play sounded pretty rough. He committed a turnover almost immediately, and also fouled which I believe gave them two FT's.

I don't think it's as much of a PR thing as it is intended to send a message to the other players. Bruce is making an example out of these first two.

Horace also got an attitude with another player and came very close to a technical foul. Coming in off of a suspension, 3 minutes in pushing for technicals is not very wise.
