This is hilarious. This game looked exactly like our out of conference top 10 games early in the season from prior years. We beat Washington, Oregon, Louisville, and lost to Clemson twice by the same margin that we lost this game or less. During LSU's championship year, we played them closer than any other team they faced. This looked a lot like the Florida game we lost that same year by a similar margin.
And all of those were under a coach who had his players in place. This is Harsin and Co’s first game. If you expected that the coaching change was going to miraculously make us top ten and beating top ten teams then youre an idiot.

Man some of yall are nuts. Put the drink down. Grab a bottle of water and a cup of coffee. Im as oissed as anyone else. But we all know- had Gus been the coach we wouldve been BLOWN out. That D wouldve feasted on Bo like UGA did. Theres some disappointing play calls, defensive strategies, sure But we are way further along than we were under gus... by the way MSU lost to memphis today. Arkansas is one dimensional (but pretty good in that dimension). Texas a&m is all D, they have zero offense. Lsu is beatable and might fire their coach soon. SCAR is still scar, and ole miss doesnt have a defense. If we improve (and this was game 1 for us) we should beat all of those teams.

Frustrating bc we were so close. But stepping back we did better than I expected. I wasnt sure we’d have a chance to win it as much as we did but i thought it would be a close game.
Offensively- weve got to find some play makers. I actually thought the formation with tank and hunter was our best chance.
Defensively- weve got to play man early then use zone in situations or if we’re just getting torched somewhere. I get why we started in zone but im not sure why it took so long to switch

Get OUT OF ZONE. PLAY MAN!!

Do y'all run more zone or man coverage?
I thought they were in zone a lot against Wisconsin. May have had someone singled out that game but looking at overall stats the YPC looks like a lot of soft underneath passes were made which is what I recall.

First 3 plays for Auburn should be: Jet sweep, PA Pass, Hb zone-Tank

I would agree across the board the B1G is gonna be more physical than fast, but that’s not true for PSU. I’m not being pissy I just don’t think you watch us enough if you think we don’t have team speed. We’re not Wisconsin or Iowa. Our team speed is every bit on par with “SEC speed.” Do I think this game will be a battle? Absolutely, but I also think we win by double digits. Ball State is leaps and bounds better than either Alabama St and Akron and then the Wisconsin win speaks for itself in terms of level of competition.
I also agree the SEC schedule is deeper than the B1G but Franklin has built us into a regular top 10 team with the exception of last year but last year was not normal across the board.
Regardless of the speed and B1G/SEC debate I’m just glad to be playing a different team on a national spotlight. Really looking forward to the game and hope you guys enjoy it as well. I will say this though. A Penn State whiteout will be like nothing you’ve ever seen. Best of luck and look forward to us coming down to you guys next year.
Appreciate the level headed response: from my perspective- Wisconsin won that game in every way except the scoreboard. They out rushed yall and kept your rushing attack to just 50 yards. TOP was like 3:1. That said Auburns OL wont be as good as Wisky’s but our defense should be better. Should be an interesting game.

Auhud08 makes my "underutilized tight end" point that Tommy Trot was hit .... on a seam down the middle for 20 yards "once per game". I rest my case.
Buuuuuttt we coulda gone twice per game... kept them on their toes

With the exception of Phillip Lutz.., our tight ends have been in witness protection since Terry Bowden used them to beat Florida at Florida Field in about 1994 with Patrick Nix as quarterback. It would be fitting for Harsin to bring them out of moth balls for Bo to use this season. Harsin is suppose to value tight ends and I hope he will use them wisely this year, especially in the PSU game.
Pft Tommy trot says hello on a seam down the middle for 20 yds once per game

I'll do a more in-depth break down later but it really comes down to QB play. They will sell out to stop the run and blitz like crazy while trying to confuse Bo with fake blitzes and not knowing who drops back.
Their secondary doesn't look impressive and neither do their receivers (knocks on wood). Gotta shut down 21 and do a better job guarding those swing passes out of the backfield.
Can't let that QB have clean pockets like he did in this highlight. Honestly think Alabama State > Ball State lol.
I thought the same thing. It will come down to who executes and who stops perimeter passes and rb screens. Both teams have shown a deficiency is guarding swing passes and outside plays. Only positive i look for in the run game is with a zine blocking scheme you let the rb pick the hole. Gonna need all three phases

Seemed to hold his block pretty well to me. It is pass blocking, he is supposed to back up.
Now go further in the highlight and watch the Jaquez Hunter run, the friggin line blows the entire DL off the ball by about five yards.
Im not feeling all the angst against our offensive line, we had 2 running backs over 100 yards and not one sack nor hurry by Nix. Could they improve sure, but the glass is certainly half full not bone dry empty.
Im not overly one way or the other. He didnt move his feet though he just stiff-legged and hopped back. Yes pass block allows you to move backwards but a good pass block is controlled and the OL shift the rush outside as a tackle. Either way- room for improvement, excited ab the game

535 mark is what i was talking about. Just gets pushed straight back

IMO, it's mostly mental lapses for our OL. It's almost like they panick when the DL starts a twist or stunt or whatever that they didn't anticipate pre-snap. Just like Brahms panicking and holding early in the game just bc his guard left him alone.
Saw LT get WORKED into the backfield a couple of times. Fighting for his life

All the pessimism here... chill. We gotta stop this “if coach doesnt land this guy” or “coach needs to land this guy”. Im not saying be a sunshine pumper but you gotta find the positives.
not to opine- my dad always told me- youve got two choices- sit in the corner and cry about it or get up and do something about it.
ftr- i think we get him. And if we dont i think we find another wr. Aint worried ab it.

I posted this in the game thread but ill post it here again- i was impressed with the cleanliness. All we heard from scrimmages was- we dont know who the OL is gonna be, wrs cant catch, Bo is throwing picks, miscues on offense cause turnovers. All of those mental errors- NONE of it showed up in the game. Thats whats impressive. Its impressive that game one of a season and game one for a new coaching staff you dont have those mental errors.
Texas a&m made mistakes, ms state made mistakes, lsu made mistakes, those are seasoned coaching staffs who’s teams didnt show up and dominate the way theyre supposed to. It doesnt mean we’re gonna beat them, but it does mean our players have bought in and are well- prepared. Thats big.

Its not just being ready in game 1. Its being ready in game one with an ENTIRELY new staff. Few penalties, few false starts. Think ab this- how many missed routes have we seen? We were all worried ab that. Youd think this was the 2nd or 3rd yesr in this offense by the cleanliness of the play.

Yep one more thing auburn is inept at. If only they could be like alabama, clemson, or ohio state and play powerhouses like Mercer, SC State, and.... Akron, respectively

I hope when they join we quit this crap . Play Akron for the spring game . We should never play a team that’s a 50 point underdog . It’s shameful . If we want to help them then help some other way. The other conferences in the P5 don’t play teams like Akron’s . SMH
Every other P5 is playing a school like Akron. It just so happens Akron is extra terrible this year.
