I’ll add to this. Let’s say Denver and Chaney don’t take a step back and continue to improve and every other starter stays the same or even improves more. I think Auburn would definitely have the better starting 5 than UAT. Again, Pegues is as good as the UAT guards coming in. Broome is the best player on both teams. No one on UAT can matchup with CBM. If Denver continues to play like he did at the end of this year, we have a legit shooter at the 2. Again, my only worry is with Chaney being a starter. Also, not all 5 stars are the same. Just because they have 3 4-5 star players coming in, doesn’t mean they will be playing like NBA players. Like I said, as of right now in mock drafts for next year, not 1 UAT player is on there.

It's not about so much having NBA caliber players, we had Smith and Kess how did that turn out? I agree with you for the most part, but we need more ammunition depth wise and consistent play over a course of a season. 2019 roster had tons of young ammunition that's all we need.

I wouldn’t be that pessimistic. I’ve said before that Pearl has for the most overachieved given his roster talent. Next year could be his most productive team given who’s coming back. But yes, more than likely because of NIL now, unless Auburn boosters make basketball a priority, Pearl will continue to have to find his diamonds in the rough instead of just being able to throw money at the top players like our rivals. Don’t get mad at Pearl, he’s doing the best he can with the resources available. Get mad at the boosters for not providing him the opportunity to be as successful as our rivals.

As for UAT, I’m not so sure they’re going to be that good next year. They are replacing almost 75% of their roster. It takes time to gel and they don’t have any sure fire NBA players as well. Next year I think is going to be really intriguing to say the least for college basketball as a whole.

you may want to reconsider that thought about Tuscaloosa roster for next year, they have signed more portal players than us and are after several more players that we would like to sign and those players don't even have us in consideration. They also have more appeal and market value than us.. the media loves them especially the S E C network watch the calls Holloway will get in a tide uniform 2024/25 vs in an Auburn uniform he was constantly bumped and rubbed and completely knock off of pick and rolls and didn't get the foul call, watch he gets that call in Tuscaloosa.

According to an ESPN report Sunday by Jeff Passan, blame for the debacle has been leveled at supplier Nike.

Player complaints about see-through pants that allow undergarments and body parts to be visible beneath the garb, manufactured by Fanatics, will also be addressed.

The outlet cited a memo sent to players by the Major League Baseball Players Association that detailed the planned changes will include larger letters on the backs of the jerseys, fixing mismatched gray tops and bottoms and addressing Nike jerseys’ tendency to collect sweat.

I am a Nike uniform lover now I said it...

No real disagreeing here from me, but Barbee was a wrong guy about 90% of things from what I've read about the guy lol. I can see why someone would think UA is perfectly fine if he said differently.

I forgot the stat, but I think like one non-Nike/Adidas school has won the basketball title this millennium? Something wild like that.

Article from 2016: Nike Has Sponsored Almost Every Final Four Team in the Last Decade
Nike/Jordan Brand sponsors 42 teams from the 68 team field this year: March Madness: Nike, Jordan top Under Armour and Adidas in NCAA tournament field

Every remaining team in the current bracket except 11th seeded NC State is a Nike school btw.

It's basically giving yourself a prohibitive disadvantage to not be a Nike school unless you're Kansas, who is a brand unto themselves.

    And Notre Dame

Can someone explain exactly how apparel impacts recruiting? I’m sure it does but I’d love to hear the…mechanics of it. After tonight I would love to believe that especially in basketball we’ve been playing with a handicap that’s about to be rectified.

no problem, when you make the best apparel and sports equipment and shoes and oh by the way they are global it's a no brainer really. They make sure to endorse the absolute best athletes, they have one of the biggest brands in the market share, tons of advertising, Nike plus ESPN runs all things sports period. Let me go back in time, Auburn fans are hard headed, my dad use to say to me a hard head totes a sore rear end. Tony Barbie tried telling y'all that Nike was needed in order to compete but y'all let politics cloud y'all judgement.... 2019 was just an outlier

That what I've been told too. Working on the buyout

If a buyout is in play this is the last year in under armor gear we will start 2024 football season in Nike apparel why else would you buyout a contract that runs up to summer of 25.

Yep, freeze has A lot to prove. His attitude at the end of the season last year was not what Auburn paid for.

if he doesn’t improve significantly this year then let him know his days are numbered as in one more year. Hopefully he will do an outstanding job but so far nothing significant on the field.

Auburn is run by a narcissist!! until it can rid the dominator it will continue to be stuck in mud while everyone else pass Auburn by. Alabama does a great job at marketing itself as a brand and flagship, we on the other hand is stuck on itself and is not worried about how it's appeal look to anyone outside the Auburn fandom. Auburn is not interested in telling it's own story about how good it is and why you should want to be apart of it, you do that with forward thinking and aligning yourself with brands that create excitement. The loveliest village on the plains Attitude was great but it has long been time to move on from small thinking, if Nike becomes Auburn apparel provider I would have a discussion with Tim Cook about a partnership since he is on the board at Nike to have the Apple logo inside and outside of Jordan hare, Neville arena, Alabama has the Mercedes logo inside of Coleman and Bryant Deny. Auburn doesn't sell Auburn WE ARE STUCK ON STUPID but we can't figure out why we continue to struggle..

And yet Auburn was desperate to get him. Shows where the talent pool lied last year.

Shows how far we have fallen.. in roster talent!! and program, that is why Hugh wants to build this program back through the high school ranks with a transfer here and there.

This apparel deal is all about recruiting, especially in basketball. If you are not running Nike, you are at a disadvantage in BB recruiting. Same for T&F. As for FB, I don't think it is such a big issue. But I hope CBP gets his way on this, because otherwise he might be more inclined to leave.

    JMO.

I thought I read a year ago that Butch Thompson said that under armour was affecting his ability to recruit better players because of the quality and designs of under armour. So, we know the softball team has been complaining about the shoes, the Nike affect is real, it matters in football too, just better over all quality and endless gear for the student athlete.

Jordan’s image as a Chicago Bull not as a Tarheel.  Don’t see the issue with it, unless you are a devoted fan of another NBA team.  The Jumpman logo had nothing to do with UNC.

Let me ask you this…would you take MJ or Barkley on your team if you had a pick and knowing all things?  I love AU, but I’m taking MJ all day every day.

What has the Jordan brand done for Florida? let me ask you this, are you against Nike because of Tuscaloosa or because you don't like Nike? Labron has a brand, FLA a/m right now is his lone endorsement, I would take his brand over Jordan..

We have slowly improved every year under Coach Harris. Now we just need that breakthrough season.

The program needs more N I L initiative, we lost out on Rickea Jackson to UT, she wanted to come to Auburn coach Harris recruited her to MSU.

I’m not going to trash them as blatantly, but you make some salient points.

I know I went overboard here, but they have got to get more involved in the offense to help with spacing and flow to allowed for Broome to have one on one match up's. Donaldson should be working around the elbow especially with his body make up, the one thing about the game of basketball is that you have to play and play and play to develop your craft. Donaldson doesn't look like the guy who has been in the gym working!! I guarantee you that if one of the GUARDS step up points production wise somebody minutes will drop.

  13. could not play for me, what do they do? what do they bring to the table? they are scared to shoot the fricking ball. Donalson and Aden are starting the offense from half fricking court they do not attack the basket, what do they do beside dribble the flipping basketball. It's putting to much pressure on Broom to work inside because teams or not afraid of them going by somebody. they are playing scared because their game or skill set is trash! so, they in turn give the ball up if it not in transition they are handicapping this team... they have got to give some production. they are not power 5 guards, Bruce has got to do a better job finding some guards that can put pressure on the defense and make these crooked officials in the S E C make the calls......

Harsin was not a decent coach. He still has some culpability in this team’s struggles. Fairweather’s tweet kind of confirms that. Harsin created a culture of selfishness and lackluster effort. Still somewhat feeling the effects of that.

It needs to be better. But we also aren’t in the meeting rooms of the athletic complex. Folks are talking about the recruiting success. It’s plausible that Freeze is not a good game day coach. It’s also possible that he knew this season was a wash, and put more emphasis on getting recruiting momentum going, perhaps at the expense of some game prep. If failure to have the team prepared today enabled us to sign that great class including our excellent WRs or helps us to secure some good transfers in the coming weeks, do we really care about this game? Would it matter at all? Does anyone really remember day to day that Saban and Kirby also had bad first years given what they’ve done since?

This season didn’t meet my expectations, but I’m also not really going to draw any conclusions from year 1. Five years from now, we could very well be in multiple consecutive playoffs. If that happens, who cares what happened this year?

question for you, do you think Saban and Smart has total control of their program? and do you think Freeze has it as well? it is something fundamentally wrong at Auburn, just asked yourself this, the results of our football program looks the same no matter who the coach is. Freeze looks miserable, we are still dealing with culture issues in this program because of players not liking what they are seeing from the coaches from a roster management standpoint in which they know someone other than the coach is pulling the strings. We will continue to suffer until the root cause no longer hovers over this program, that is the only way this football program changes..

Whatever this this is better nip it in the bud quick.

I've told people on here for years, the only ways to lose a team is players feel like you don't care/respect them and playing guys who haven't earned it/playing guys because of promises or whatever.

I personally don't think either of the QB's are good but if one is showing in practice that he's better than the other, better play the guy who's performing

Also, this is a simple fix, Hugh needs to do the right thing. I almost feel like this is a wash and repeat cycle we are in, different coach, different players, and same situation. It is a problem somewhere and it is not hard to figure out who that problem is. first of all, no one needs to be FIRED! our reputation is already a dumpster fire, secondly play the right guys, and last but not least I told my brother in law that Hugh doesn't look happy and that was back during the cal game, he looks unhappy and compromised, he is saying things that kinda doesn't make since, as if adults will not figure out the bull crap, what's going on in the dark will surely come to light, it's just a matter of time.

    1) Nike has the best selection, great designs and is available everywhere. Since they started with running shoes they have always had the best footwear. They would be great for basketball since they own the AAU gig and all the influence $$$$ they have. That said, they are SELLOUTS with virtue signaling which we did NOT need in sports. The BS with the NBA and China is so hypocritical. The crimson turds are Nike obviously. While I like Michael Jordan the ONLY image I want on an Auburn FB Jersey is Bo Jackson, period

    2) Adidas specialty and history is mainly soccer and track & field. Their runner & player apparel in the 70s & 80s was top notch. As Nike started branching out to more sports with innovation Adidas became a follower. Sure, they now have their cloud products but they just knockoff or try to knockoff the best technology others come up with. Thanks though for staying out of politics Adidas 🫡

    3) New Balance- No freaking way

    4) Under Armour- These guys took on Nike with better, cutting edge innovation in apparel forcing the gorilla of sports apparel to play catch-up. UA raised the price levels in the market from the quality and innovation of their apparel. I don’t want to pay more but what UA did here was incredible. They still need to work on their shoes which is a crucial need in all sports. While UA does offer rainbow apparel designs I thank them for keeping a low profile on politics. I hope we renegotiate a stellar deal with UA.
