  1. There will always be some on here that will get sanctimonious in judgment of a Head Coaching candidate at Auburn. Here are just a few gems from 2014 when we were considering Bruce Pearl to replace Barbee:

    Quote

I can't believe the people on this site. My father played football at Auburn with Shug; my undergraduate

degree is from Auburn and I taught there from 1969-1973; and my son is an Auburn graduate in engineering.

I bleed orange and blue. How can you possibly want Bruce Pearl on the Auburn campus. He is a proven cheat

of the worst kind. Does winning mean so much to you that you are willing to sell your soul to the devil?

Shamed on us if we hire this man!

    Quote

You make four of us on this board with serious reservations. Seems that everyone else is hell-bent that nobody but Pearl can even hope to win here. I'm not convinced that AU will offer the job to Pearl or that if offered, Pearl would accept. We'll pay whatever is necessary but I think at this point there are more important things than money to both AU and Pearl .

And there are always some that are concerned about the "bad PR".

    Quote

JJ, please bring Chuck Person home. bama already has a lying coach.* The state doesn't need another one.

If JJ does decide to want Pearl, we have to petition the NCAA for permission. Not good PR for Auburn.

*Extra points for the irony! 🙂

I understand where you are coming from. However, what I have seen on the one other instance you are referring to seems very strange to say the least. And it appears that there is more going on than you or I know. So, I can not make a judgment call without knowledge of everything. Also, not everything you read online is on the up and up. Seems like a lot of background info to go through on that story. I am sure AU would look at things a lot closer than we have before hiring him. So, at the moment, I can not make the case for him having continual moral horrendous decisions. You are welcome to your opinion but it does not make him guilty.

Good points, plus when people say "his mistakes pile up continually", I must have missed the continuous pile. Does he continue to send questionable DMs? What other mistakes have piled up since he was terminated at Ole Miss?

I usually agree with your posts, but not this one. Most schools do have it. Look back at what bammer went through during the time when they hired Saban. It was a circus far exceeding anything going on at Auburn this time.

As far as the JABA thing, it's neither accurate or cute in any discussion. I think it's something bammers thought up and some of our people are willing to parrot anything enemies say about Auburn.

    Spot on on both counts.

I think the JABA thing at the moment, is being thrown out when anyone does not like anything AU does.

    True, too.

He would an absolute PR NIGHTMARE with how the bama media already attacks us.

There's never satisfying the bama media. We certainly shouldn't make hiring decisions based on making them happy. They currently want us to retain Cadillac as HC. Those articles get clicks. But don't think they won't (typo fix) turn on him when he loses and that will get them clicks. And then they'll attack Auburn when we fire our first black HC.

    Yeah....

I’m mouthing off about  about Freeze

but he will do ok. He will be solid, Gus type record..

But when you hear stuff like all the PTB are all pulling together and there’s tons of NIL money ready to roll and you hear that we’re going after Dabo, Lane and maybe Prime.. and we end up with Freeze..

    13 minutes ago, DAG said:

Prime was never a realistic candidate…

    Neither was Dabo, lol.

Kiffin and Freeze were always the top two candidates. If we get one of the top two, that's fine for most of us (including me). There are even a couple second-tier candidates that most Auburn fans would be okay with. I think for some of ya'll screaming JABA, Just Auburn Being Auburn just means they hired someone that you didn't want.

Whether we end up with Lane or Freeze, this thing hasn’t been pretty.  Sure am excited to see Lac leading our team this weekend though, WAR DAMN EAGLE

Has it really been ugly? Maybe to the impatient amongst us that have been clicking refresh 24/7. For most, they know we fired Harsin, they hear the Lane Train buzz, maybe some other candidates, and most expect we won't announce anything until after the Iron Bowl. If you're paying attention, maybe you hear the Kiffin denials that aren't really denials, shrug your shoulders and say "well, I guess we'll find out soon".

What part of this has been ugly?

…the only thing that matters is the W/L column.

To an extent… somehow, @MustardSeed has convinced himself that OM’s 8-3 record is more or less the same as AU’s 5-6 record, and that we fired Harsin for the same season that Lane is having. But even if we buy into that, there’s more to look at than the W/L record when evaluating the health of a football program. Auburn was clearly trending down with Harsin at the wheel, with no productivity from our best position groups. OM is trending up with Kiffin and always gets a lot from his best players.

Tennessee was just a matter of time. It was a mess and he left before he was fired if I remember correctly.

That is not what I remember at all. They definitely did not want him to leave and makes sense why they responded so negatively toward him when he left so soon.

Yeah, it didn't happen. Fake news.

No you didn't. You thought the AU Family was responsible, lol.

You know, we don't actually get a say in the decision, right? 🙂

We only have this forum to share thoughts. But half the time, our thoughts/ideas/questions are slapped down/taken out of context/poster is put-down. That's the AU Family.

No, you did ask if he could coach for one of the hot names being thrown around

    That is a question.

You must be, because I only asked if Steele was burnt. I am not advocating for him. Ya'll so sensitive about a question. AU dysfunctional-Family, I guess.

Seems like people see a name on Twitter and are like, "Hm, I need to make a post about him immediately whether it makes sense or not."

Haven't seen anything on Steele on Twitter. But no doubt, every possible name has been brought up on Twitter.

Dude, why would any new HC want to hire a DC who was allegedly trying to get pushed into the HC job by certain boosters? Do you not remember how Kevin Steele departed Auburn the last time? Do you think the fans would be happy with that decision?

There are more than 2-3 DC's in the country. What's next, let's bring back Chizik?

    Uh, yeah, that's what I'm suggesting. 🙄

    14 minutes ago, metafour said:

If KIffin, Freeze, etc. are hired they will find their own DC.

Of course, I am not suggesting otherwise. And what if they chose to bring back Steele? Would we really care if "the fans would be happy with that decision"?

I don't care who is brought in as DC. I hope it's someone good.

I'd be happy with the same results, if the defense was as strong now as it was under most of Steele's Auburn teams. Do you think Steele's AU Ds were bad? I remember a lot of post-game complaints that Gus's offense once again wasted a great defensive game.

On the other hand, I wasn't really advocating for him to be hired. Just thinking that the names on our HC short-list are more offensive minded (or in the case of Deion, ???), and finding a good DC will be a priority, so was wondering who we might be interested in. Not sure who Kiffin or Freeze or Grimes or Sanders would try to recruit.

I love T-Will but i think he is happy where he is and the upcoming move to the big 12 at UCF has to be appealing as opposed to entering the absolute gauntlet that is the sec west  --

I wondered if his loyalties to Gus would prevent a return to Auburn in a lateral move, but forgot about the Big 12 invite. Good point.

Other folks might have a different perspective on him. But I don’t really want him ever back on Auburn’s campus. Yes, it was time to move on from Malzahn. But the behind the scenes coups that he incited was despicable. I’d don’t think I trust him to not try it again if I’m an Auburn head coach.

Maybe you’re right. I don’t know enough about it, and gave him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn’t the instigator of the coup attempt, just the horse they were backing.

I do agree that many HCs would not trust him. I imagine Kiffin and Freeze know him better than we do.

  16. I know he left under awkward circumstances. But is he forever burnt at Auburn as a coordinator, or could he coach the defense for Kiffin, Freeze, or Deion? I think he probably knows now he’s not getting that big HC opportunity any time soon, after Auburn and Tennessee passed on him.

Alternative, has the shine worn off T Rob? And I’m sure many here would like to see T Will come home.

If Cadillac goes 3-1 and finishes with a top 25 recruiting class why wouldn't he get a second year? Auburn alumn with NFL connections?  I want to see how this plays out.  He might be exactly who we have needed.

Possible HC candidates this year? The options seem promising.

Possible HC candidates next year? Who knows?

Did you seriously just screenshot his "record" after the NCAA stripped a million wins away from it and pretend like that's what it was lmao?

Yes bro, I agree! He was 12-25 at Ole Miss! What the heck!

    You're a sharp one.
