today was my birthday so I wasn't able to keep up with the tourney. We had a terrible day but made the first cut of top 15 teams. We are currently tied for 7th still have tomorrow need to stay in top 8 to get to final 8 teams to start match play. We shot 13 over had so many doubles and a few triples hopefully got the worse out of the way.

Well, happy birthday!   You still counting?

Not necessary.  Everyone will be jumping ship reallu soon.  Pitchers and position players.  Expect a minimum of 16 to enter the transfer portal.  (I have insight into this - my great nephew plays on the team.)

    Any specific reason(s)?

Ok, so in derailing the thread, I apologize! It looks like we have somewhat news on the basketball front. Going to paraphrase so I won’t get into trouble. Auburn wants Dior but looks like the SEC won’t let it happen because of his past. We are after Miles Kelly, a guard/wing from GA Tech. Any day now Mitchell and Hudson will commit somewhere soon. That’s pretty much it, don’t know how much that helps.

    AUSC,

i am neither for or against DIOR, but if he committed a crime and completed his punishment/sentence, how can the SEC deny him anything???

Seems unreasonable to me to expect less from a player just due to the state he played HS ball in.

I think it’s bc Arky HS ball may not be that competitive as compared to other states, especially in the speed department.  People remember Mustain and Frazier, and have their hesitation. I’m sure there have been good college QBs from Arky but I have no idea

  5. With the NIL free agency crap, there is NOT one paid athlete/student? that’s gonna agree to play a competitive spring game against another team.  Draw up contracts, then a different story

I don’t disagree with this, but the horse is out of the gate. I think the game and experience will be diminished in many ways from what it was, but that became inevitable with every game being televised and huge tv deals.

You say applying the rules of business is a mistake— you did just that and I was seeking clarification of the analogy you used. Trainees are routinely paid, the question is how. In this case the “trainees” are the product that draws the dollars. The “trainees” are stars, not interns who aren’t entrusted with much. The “trainees” also risk life altering injuries every time they step on the field, practice or game. They could be paid a salary or stipend but universities apparently prefer profit sharing to employee status.

Universities have maximized opportunities for cash at expense of rivalries and tradition, blowing up conferences based on expanding market share. They’ve approached the game as a business and that’s what it’s become. I miss the game. I miss the old rivalries, and the walk-ons who became starters and even major contributors. But universities chose the place we are.

by their own choosing....NONE of them have to play sports.

Were I a coach at a G-5 school I think I'd look for another job opportunity. Imagine beating the bushes and finding a diamond in the rough only to have the rich boys come in and plunder your team. That would be the pits.

thats what it is now, already.  even saban admitted tampering with the toledo CB on the draft show.

Best of luck to Aden. He was just in over his head at Auburn.

Did Tahaad Pettiford disappear or something? I thought he was due to arrive on campus next month. Another of CBP's miniPGs.

pettiford is short, i think listed 6-1, but i also have an understanding he is a 2 guard or SG, not a PG.  i may be incorrect too
