My main point is expecting any of these QBs to look like substantially better after 1 month of practice is unrealistic.  I’m sure Hugh gave all 3 a fair shake.  With Robbie’s athletic ability why would you not want him to improve?  Also it’s easier to keep what you have than try and get someone new.  This probably all be a moot point in the next week.

Bringing in another QB especially after losing one to the portal is pretty important to spur competition. I’d be shocked if Thorne were promised the starting role. He will essentially be competing with QB’s that have more experience in Freeze’s offense and if he still beats them (which he will) they have 0 room to complain.

I have never seen a coach before or since go for broke the way Spurrier did in that game. I agree he knew he was outmanned, but USC probably did better than they otherwise would have done in that game with Spurrier's pull out all the stops approach.

That game was as memorable for me as was Brother Oliver's 11-man defensive front when he was at AU. I enjoy a little eccentricity on occasion.

I will never forget how Spurrier coached that game. Lane as OC at Bama totally reminded of Spurrier and that’s what I am excited for.

This is all going to look absurd if this was just a tweet by Jon Sokoloff designed to give MSU an edge in Thursday night's Egg Bowl.  When I see Lane Kiffin's "counter-tweet" about Sokoloff taking a job at another TV station, it makes me ponder why Kiffin went to so much trouble to think that up if he is planning to leave Ole Miss.  It is one thing to deny something in an answer to a question -- that is easy.  But going to the trouble to think up a clever counter-tweet to get back at somebody?  That seems like a lot of extra, unnecessary work.

I think the details in Sokloff’s tweet could be wrong despite Kiffin intending to go to Auburn. Timing of announcement, etc.

  4. I don’t see the allure of any marquee coach going to Alabama after Saban. Always questions/comparisons. Always in his shadow. I think what makes Auburn so appealing is the ability to build a program up with good bones. This contributes more to legacy than taking the keys to a well oiled machine.

Honestly,  I am happy I see improvement game to game and year to year.   That is all that matters to me.   I am willing to be patient.

game to game evidence of blocking getting better,  QB progressing,  better tackling,  etc. etc. etc.

    6-6,  7-5 ,  8-4 ,  9-3 ,  9-3,  10-2 ,   then 9 to 11 wins consistently.

I think Kiffin will make the most immediate impact with his portal acumen.  Some of the other coaches may be better high school recruiters,  which may take a 2-3 years  to get us back to the depth we need,  but the end result will be the same.  We are looking at  a few years before we are  seriously competitive again.

The good news is,   we have positions open across the board.   if you want to play right away,  Auburn is the way.

Lane can handle the portal and can be incredibly effective in recruiting high school.
