    Bringing in another QB especially after losing one to the portal is pretty important to spur competition. I’d be shocked if Thorne were promised the starting role. He will essentially be competing with QB’s that have more experience in Freeze’s offense and if he still beats them (which he will) they have 0 room to complain.

    Agreed. Even if he has a Gus like flame out in 5-6 years Cadillac will have learned enough by then assuming he gets promoted to OC or associate HC.

    I think in his 4 weeks at the helm he learned that there is much more to learn.

    And head coach in waiting. He can learn on the job and be prepared to step in if Danny Hugh screws up.

    I like this approach. Cautious optimism. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for him. His daughter is a member of the community. If he screws this up he is toast.

    Why not Chip Kelly? Does he stink at recruiting? Seems like time is ripe for him to leave LA.

    I will never forget how Spurrier coached that game. Lane as OC at Bama totally reminded of Spurrier and that’s what I am excited for.

    I think the details in Sokloff’s tweet could be wrong despite Kiffin intending to go to Auburn. Timing of announcement, etc.

    I don’t see the allure of any marquee coach going to Alabama after Saban. Always questions/comparisons. Always in his shadow. I think what makes Auburn so appealing is the ability to build a program up with good bones. This contributes more to legacy than taking the keys to a well oiled machine.

    Lane can handle the portal and can be incredibly effective in recruiting high school.

    Sorry didn’t read the last part of the post re: Carnell. If you are going Carnell the market will already dictate a lower salary due to lack of experience. What about a buy out?

    It’s a candidate driven market. What top name would you expect to take a deal like that?
