Auburn, Ala. - The defending national champion Auburn men and women's swimming and diving team will open the season on Friday at 3 p.m. when the Tigers host LSU in the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.

The owners of a combined 10 national championship titles, the Tigers begin their quest for No. 11 in 2007. The AU men return 14 All-Americans, including NCAA champions Cesar Cielo (200 FR), Bryan Lundquist (200 FR), Steven Segerlin (Platform) and Matt Targett (200 FR). In addition, seven men on this year's squad have SEC titles in their collection: Jakob Andkjaer, Cielo, Scott Goodrich, Lundquist, Alexei Puninski, Segerlin and James Wike.

On the women's side, the Tigers welcome back 15 All-Americans, including NCAA champions Rachel Goh (100 Back) and Hayley Peirsol (1650 Free). The Tigers return all six SEC champions in Adrienne Binder, Tawnie Bethune, Goh, Emily Kukors, Peirsol and Julie Stupp.

Tiger fans will notice an abundance of new faces on the 2006-07 team as AU added a combined 26 freshman to the men and women's teams. The men boast its largest newcomer class in many years with 18 freshman who hail from 10 different states and two foreign countries. Eight women joined the program in August and come from six different states.

The LSU men own a 0-1 record so far this season as the Bayou Bengals fell to Stanford, 84-54, on September 15. LSU's men finished 40th at the 2005 NCAA Championship and the women were 32nd. LSU returned a combined five All-Americans and welcomed 11 newcomers. Head coach Adam Schmitt is in his third year at LSU.

Admission is free and Tiger fans are encouraged to park in the Student Activities lot on Friday. Results from the meet will be available at the conclusion of the meet on the Auburn web site.
