Auburn Heads To No. 7 Arkansas For Weekend Series

Recommended Posts

The Auburn baseball team hits the road for an

important Southeastern Conference series this weekend, heading to

Fayetteville, Ark., to face the nation’s No. 7-ranked team, Arkansas.

Auburn is 28-14, 10-8 SEC and sits three games behind the SEC

West-leading Arkansas club, which is 34-8, 13-5 SEC.

“When you start talking about Arkansas and start looking at it purely

from a numbers standpoint, Arkansas is an outstanding team,” Auburn

Head Coach John Pawlowski said. “They are having a tremendous year.

They are one of the elite teams in the SEC. It will be a great challenge

for our kids and our program going into their place and this will be a

good test.”

Auburn will once again start So. LHP Cory Luckie (5-2, 6.64) on Friday

and Jr. LHP Grant Dayton (4-2, 5.14) on Sunday but has yet to determine

its Saturday starter.

Arkansas will counter with So. LHP Drew Smyly (6-0, 2.22) on Friday,

Fr. LHP Randall Fant (3-0, 2.60) on Saturday and Jr. RHP Brett Eibner

(3-3, 4.04) on Sunday.

Auburn, which remains the SEC’s top-hitting club with a .351 team

batting average, is 14-1 overall when the opponent starts a left-handed

pitcher, hitting .344 against southpaws with a lineup that regularly

features four left-handed hitters.

Auburn is in search of back-to-back series wins in Fayetteville for the

first time since it won series in 1998 and 2000, Auburn’s only other

series wins at Arkansas. Auburn’s last series win (in 2008) came in

dramatic fashion as Auburn was down, 8-2, going to the top of the eighth

in Sunday’s rubber match before scoring four runs in the eighth, four

in the ninth and two in the 10th to win the series.

Arkansas swept the series last year in Auburn, winning a one-run game

on Friday and then scoring five times over the final two innings to

rally for a 10-6 win on Saturday and then winning 12-6 on Sunday.

Game times for the series are 6:30pm CT on Friday, 2pm on Saturday and

1pm on Sunday.

In baseball, anything can happen in one series.  I think we'll take 2, but if we don't, please don't start crying for the coaches head,
