  1. Gus and his staff are a big part of the reason those kids didn't quit last year. We've seen teams roll over with other coaching staffs. These guys love Auburn and love playing for Gus. You can't credit them for fighting without giving him credit for the same.

The kids did play hard for Gus and that is a huge credit to Gus and how the team feels about Gus. But Gus did not have this team ready to play last year. All I was saying.

  2. How was Gus to know of all backs that Peyton Barber would jet to the pros? Or that Roc would transfer considering he was the Day 1 starter last season? Things happen in life. Every team and I include bammer in this has some depth issue somewhere. It's a numbers game. Attrition happens at times when it's not best in a lot of cases. The Qb guru at aTm lost 2 5* qbs last year and had to get a transfer. The better coaches find a way to create depth with positional movement of current players on hand and that's what Gus is trying to do with Pettway/Cox. Let's see how it plays out. But I agree we need 2 legit every down running backs in this class plus an Ath and a speed back.

    DT's & WR's last year. OT's & LBer's this year. This has been a trend.

  3. This kid is another great pickup at a position of need. It is time some posters start giving Gus and his coaches some credit. Last year we had 3 main areas of concern D-Line, Wide receiver and Linebacker. We had what may be our best WR class ever and also one of our better D-Line class. We didn't do that well in a year that was a little weak at Linebacker. This year with two Offensive Tackles leaving early because of earlier classes and a transfer we are OK but really need a couple of studs at Offensive Tackle we have the commits we need. Linebacker was a continuing need and we have two good ones already with it looking like we will get 2-3 more again filling the need. With one RB leaving early and Roc transferring a position of strength becomes a position of concern RB. We have great talent but are thin we have addressed this need already. We are doing a great job providing quality depth at RB and possible starters at RB.

I don't know what our final class will be but I am very happy with how we are addressing our biggest concerns over last two years.

Gus needs to address depth problems before they become problems. Gus's, get thin and load up philosophy, is going to come back and haunt him. And a huge reason AU is having to take JUCO anything. AU should never have to take a JUCO RB out of need. This is the case here. Good pickup but just filling depth issues. I hope the kid light's it up, don't get me wrong. But AU should be STACKED at RB right now.

This is one of my red flags with Gus. And I believe this is a issue with Gus not being very organized. Not like a coach on a perinatal all time top 15 school anyways. IMO.

Like I said I'm going to give Gus this year and I hope like hell he turns this thing around. But I'm going to call it like I see it.

  4. Free read from Rivals

AUBURN | Oxford linebacker K.J. Britt no longer has a leader.

Auburn and Georgia continue to be at the top of his list, but neither school has an edge over the other.

“Everything is so close,” Britt said. “I’m just taking it day by day.”

Britt, who Rivals ranks the No. 7 inside linebacker in the class, spent Friday night and Saturday in Auburn. He hung out with fellow 2017 linebacker recruits, Chandler Wooten and Tadarian Moultry, both Auburn commitments.

“We did a lot of chillin’, playing games and just kicking back,” Britt said. “It was a lot of fun. They’re not pressuring me. We didn’t even talk football. We just joked around and played games.”

Britt and Moultry once planned to attend college together. Moultry made up his mind and committed to the Tigers. Britt could do the same, but it wouldn’t be because of Moultry. That’s now a bonus.

“Auburn is always going to be there (in my top group),” Britt said. “We know Gus (Malzahn) is going to be there and that’s big. They’re building and they’re about to have something special.”

Britt plans to announce his commitment Aug. 6, but will wait if he’s not ready. Right now, he’s not.

“I’m enjoying Stanford and Florida … I’m enjoying those two a lot,” Britt said. “Auburn, Georgia, Stanford and Florida and a few more schools like Michigan and LSU.”

Rivals ranks Britt, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 220 pounds, No. 122 in the Rivals250.

Still don't think AU is pushing hard for Britt. 23?

  5. I think one of the reasons we are not competing very well with the biggies is we have some kids on the team that don't want to be at AU. We got em because their immaturity caused others to back off and they were stuck with us. These kids don't love Auburn and don't leave it all on the field. We need kids giving 110% like most did in the Bowl game. I hope CGM and staff will let character play a bigger role in recruiting.

This is not true at all. Zip. Zilch. Say what you want but those players did leave it all on the field last year. Never gave up one time. Not even when LSU was waxing them. Gus did those kids a disservice last year.

  6. WDE.... Did something change with his recruitment. You seem to really be on point when it comes to if kids are coming to Auburn, but you seem to suggest he would definetly end up at Bama. Just curious what you are hearing and hopefully this helps with Mond knowing who his future bookend tackles will be at Auburn.

I just can't remember too many times that a kid who grew up a bama fan, was a top priority for bama and picked AU. This is a bigger lost to uat than MB not going to AU.

From what I was just told I don't think the AU coaches knew Troxell was coming to commit today. Huge surprise. Damn fine job by the AU coaches.

  7. Lets just get him in school first.

WHAT????? Does every bit of good news that comes our way have to have an * with it? Wliey has grade issues? June or not, CRAP!

I'm pretty sure they are just saying to not get too far ahead of ourselves. I don't think he had grade issues. If he did he would be in summer school right now

I don't know. Four straight posts allude to some problem with grades. If there is no problem, I wish one of those four would come back and say it's all a bad joke.

No joke. But in the end I think all will be ok.

  8. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a big swing on a certain poster's attitude on the forum?

    agree

This happened exactly on the day Coach Craig left for LSU. Hasn't changed since. I respect WDE and he has good info, but he's now officially the equivalent of CNN or FOX News. Technically tells the news, but spins everything to make Gus sound like a moron. Like people have said, UAT did this recently as well so it's no indictment on Gus, but that doesn't fit the agenda. Still appreciate everything WDE brings to the forum, I just add salt these days ;D

This isn't true at all. My tone really really changed during the uga game last year in regards to Gus. Keeping Rhett & Hiring Kodi-Cat didn't help. We shall see what happens this year. Gus has all of his people in place. I do hope it works.

I could really care less about DC.

  9. #2 Long Snapper in the nation

    Quote

Bill Taylor, a long snapper from American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, committed to Auburn on Monday.

Taylor, listed at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds, is one of the top snappers in the country. He is listed as a five-star recruit per KohlsKicking.com and as the No. 2 snapper in the country.

With an average snap time of 0.64 seconds, Kohl's Kicking calls him the "fastest long snapper in America." He can snap on punts and field goals/extra points.

Taylor announced his commitment on his Twitter page and confirmed it with AL.com. He earned an offer from Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and special teams coach Scott Fountain after his performance Sunday at the specialists camp.

"I came down there and really did well at the camp," Taylor said. "After the camp, Coach Fountain called me up into his office. We talked for a little bit. We then went into Coach Malzahn's office and he offered me a scholarship. I told them I wanted to talk it over with my parents a little bit and I called them this morning and committed."

Despite growing up in Tuscaloosa, Taylor grew up an Auburn fan. His parents went to school at Auburn.

"Everybody's ecstatic right now," Taylor said. "I see this as a huge opportunity. One of my aspirations one day is to play in the NFL and I think the stage at Auburn is one that can be suitable for that. I think the next few years at Auburn can be among the best years ever at Auburn. I think they've got the best coaching staff in the country and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Taylor had scholarship offers from Samford and Memphis. It isn't easy for snappers to earn offers out of high school.

"It's a big relief," Taylor said. "I wanted to make my decision by the end of June the whole time. I've been to a ton of camps this summer so for them to go ahead and offer me and for me to make my decision, I'm really excited."

Going into this fall, Auburn has long snappers Ike Powell (junior) and Zach Wade (sophomore) on the roster.

Originally, Auburn wasn't going to sign a long snapper in this class, but Taylor's camp performance changed the coaches' minds.

"Our long snapper, not looking for that scholarship long snapper, but we're trying to find guys that can come in possibly as a walk-on that can play some and possibly win a scholarship there. If not a year from now we'll just go after the best ones in the country," Fountain told AL.com earlier this year.

Taylor said he also plays defensive end and tight end for the Patriots.

  10. So we lose out on the linebacker prospects we really want AND the ones we slow played (who will probably end up being a lot better than the ones we really wanted) because we thought we could do better and then end up missing out on everyone? Sounds like a mirror image of last year's LB recruiting - the difference being at least we already have 2 strong LBs verbally committed to us this year. That gives us a little bit of wiggle room, and 7 months to find two other strong LB commits.

Britt dug his own hole with AU.

  11. He is committed to us. We don't have to "push". All we had to do was maintain and build the relationship with him. If we wanted him enough to accept the commitment, I don't understand the perceived notion that we don't want him now.

If you say so Mr. Insider. :bow:/> My guy says uga. And this guy would know.

I keep thinking he is committed to us. Nevermind. Kids that feel slow played are either being slow played for real, or they just want more attention.

Agree. That's why I said no big deal on losing Britt.

  12. Rhett Lashlee's stock could not be any lower right now (so no other school would dare hire him away)

Wow. The lowest ones stock can get is being one year removed from 2 straight top 20 offenses? I guess he gets no credit and all the blame? No wait, that's Gus that's the blame...or wait....who are we blaming again? I'm confused.

    All on Gus IMO.

    Yes...we know...

    :bananadance:

    It is only May.
