  1. Apparently Tommy Hanson had a wreck yesterday on his way to spring training. KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) - Atlanta Braves pitcher Tommy Hanson has been diagnosed with a mild concussion after wrecking on his way to spring training. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Tuesday that Hanson will miss the first two days of spring training, then gradually work his way back into a normal routine. If there are no setbacks, he should be back at full strength within a week. Hanson blew out a tire Monday near the Braves' Disney World complex and may have bumped his head on either the windshield or the steering wheel. The right-hander was diagnosed with a grade one concussion but apparently has no other injuries. Hanson is expected to be one of the team's top starters, going 11-7 with a 3.60 ERA last season despite a shoulder injury.
  2. I would expect better from you g If you keep your expectations low you can never be disappointed . I will admit I loved watching the Braves/Yankees WS. We just got hosed in '96. I'm not a big AL fan in general so it's always more interesting to me to see the Yanks or the Sox in the postseason.
  3. Ahh to live I Florida. Yankees suck btw
  4. nothing to do with his numbers. They are great. Just some personal reasons beyond baseball. I'd rather not go any further than that. Just my opinion though. No doubt that he has been a great player for the Braves. Must be his extra marital affairs.......people make mistakes. It shouldn't tarnish what he's done for the braves. WDE Yea I know he had his demons, but that was over in 1999. The way sports are now you just have to separate the athlete from their personal life. In today's sports world there is so much more coverage than before. From what I've heard the antics from the athletes back in augolf's day would make Tiger Woods blush with shame .
  5. We'd probably be better off but you really don't know. So many variables go along with that. I'm glad we kept him because the franchise owes it to him. He's done so much for ATL baseball that he deserves to end his career as a Brave. Just imagine the backlash we would've received for trading him away. kind of like Smoltz? :-\ Smoltz wasn't traded, he signed a 5.5mil contract with incentives up to 10mil. The Braves couldn't compete with the Red Sox. True. I just never have liked chipper. Not trying to be a smart a**, but why? He's the probably the second best switch hitter ever, 1st ballot HOF, has a .304 career avg., over 450 HRs, 7x all star, over 2600 hits, former MVP, etc. He doesn't have a great amount of speed, but he is one of the best base runners I've seen. It's amazing how many doubles he gets just from hustling. Outside of Aaron, he's the best position player to ever play for Atlanta. I know his contract takes up a lot of cap room, but look how many times has he restructured his contract so the Braves could sign more players.

  7. Good segment on Heyward and the upcoming season. http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=20081671&c_id=atl
  8. We got our wish. The new "fauxback" uniform will be worn both Saturday and Sunday. http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120205&content_id=26583256&vkey=news_atl&c_id=atl Edit: NVM. They plan to wear the red softball jerseys on Friday nights now. Whatever happened to just grey and white? Now we have blue (which is decent), red (which looks like a little league team), white, cream and grey (all of which look great).
  9. Hanley Ramirez perhaps? I know you don't trade within your division, but the Marlins need pitching and the Braves need a SS.
  10. Technically we did trade to get Uggla, but only because he rejected the contract from the Marlins. And I wouldn't exactly say look for him to rebound. Yea he got off to a slow start, but he had par year by his standards. I just hope he cuts down on the errors. I think he led the majors. Wagner was for only 1 year, and no one expects Bourn to be around after this season. Which is kind of what I'm saying. When we do get someone it's more of a lease rather than a purchase. And speaking of Bourn, why did we get him instead of Hunter Pence? I like Bourn, but he doesn't provide the same kind of bat.
  11. That's the Braves for ya. The last real big move we made was for Teixeira in 07. It's always no name trades for utility players or prospects. With all the supposed big league ready pitchers we have in the minors I thought surely we could get a true LF this year and let Prado fill in at SS until Chipper retires. But no, it appears we have opted to have 9 or so big league starters, and only 4 or 5 big league bats. I get not wanting to trade away the potential next big thing, but for every McCan there are 10 Jordan Schaffers. It's just frustrating when you see the Marlins try and go after all stars, and the Braves are hoping from help from the farm.
  12. Haven't seen these yet. Pretty cool. Hopefully we will wear these Sunday instead of the God awful red.
  13. Yea that was one of the jokes somebody posted...She's not pregnant, she just has too much bammer in her
  14. Don't get me wrong Chipper has been my favorite since I was a kid, but if/when he gets hurt this year I believe we have to move on. Chipper would make a great hitting coach.
  15. With Chipper being a huge question mark this year, does anyone think we should trade to get Michael Young?
  16. True that. It just amazes me how we've had one of the best farm systems year in and year out for almost 20 years.
  17. Yea but I still think the Bravos have money to spend, they just choose not to. Last I remember seeing they are 7th in available budget behind NYY, Redsox, NYM, Cubs, Phillies, and Dodgers. But yet they are 15th in player salaries. I just get tired of the midseason trades that flop in our face, or signing some has been hoping to revive their career.
  18. Now that signing day is over (come on CK!) all I have to look foward to in my sports world is pitchers and cathcers reporting. I'm curious to see if Heyard hits 2nd (with hopefully a healthy Chipper behind him) or sixth (with who knows at 7th).
  19. I saw where we are hosting the Civil Rights game this year. Isnt this the game where the teams wear Negro League throwbacks?
  20. Sure most of you know already, but for those who don't Uggla singed a 5year contract for $65mill.
  21. Sounds about right to me. I'm not as worried about getting to the playoffs as much as I am about making a run.
  22. Kinda expected that, tough break for KK but Medlen has been better.....That sucks about Heyward. I was thinking the other day that maybe we should trade to get more help in the OF, and now he goes on the shelf
  23. Couldn't agree more. Medlen has done nothing to justify being the odd man out. I know it's not all KK's fault but he's still 1-9.
