I don’t think either school benefits from this scenario. The reason for an actual opponent is more fan interest and more of a competitive challenge. Playing UTC isn’t going to push Auburn players to get better. Our second and third teamers are just as good, and they’ll be sitting the bench instead of playing. And fans might even be less interested in a homecoming opponent than the traditional Orange-blue game.
I think you at least have to go FBS or it defeats the purpose. High schools have spring jamborees and NFL teams have combined practices to get a good litmus test.
I think it will still be what it is, a scrimmage, either way. We’ve got 14 practices, I doubt Hugh would be putting in an actual gameplan and all. As someone else said, first time a player who is gonna be counted on for meaningful snaps goes down during a completely meaningless scrimmage the fanbase will come unglued. Bring in a small fcs or HCBU, pay’’em a little $$, let their players experience a stadium like JHS. Let our guys bang on someone not wearing a AU uniform and call it a day. It can be win-win for all.

I don’t think AU traveling is what Freeze had in mind. It’s still just a glorified scrimmage at best and many years it even isn’t that good. I’d lean more towards the UT-Chattanooga, Jax State, or a HBCU route. Anything to make it a little more interesting for fans while making it pretty hassle free for AU. Would have to be win/win for all parties involved.

Not surprising that CBP is once again looking to lower-division players hoping for a gem in the very deep portal trough. Achor seems to have done well at Samford. Those guys are always (according to CBP) hungry and that's why CBP likes them. I hope he is a Cheney and not a Travore. And if he is anything like Williams, I'll gladly eat a whole flock of crows, bc my man Williams was a true Auburn stud.
Okay, not intending to be negative. He is a good player. And CBP wants him, I want him!
I mean Travore was an unproven kid. Achor is the opposite. You see what he did to Kansas in the tournament game?

Oh wow, would love to get this guy.

there is a difference between making it a priority and having a realistic chance of it Was 2013 the last time we beat Georgia at Georgia? 2010 for Bama? Beating two Juggernauts in away games would take a miracle.
‘13 was in JHS. Prayer at Jordan Hare.

He was first team All-Sec, there’s a good chance he’s at his ceiling as is. At a minimum he’s got a shot and now it’s up to him to make it or not. I don’t think I’d have disagreed with any decision he made on this one.

Man come on, every other football player moved to rivals. They literally moved gatewood then brought it back here to celebrate when he lost a game then moved it back to rivals.
What about TJ, Robby those are football. Those are QBs. I can't believe some of you pretend that Bo isn't treated differently on this board than any other player.
I honestly don’t care either way really, just pointing out Aden situation (or any player) switching to Bammer is not the same as Bo or Tre or anyone else transferring.

Yep, notice that the Aden Holloway thread was moved to "Rivals" as soon as he signed with Bama.
Yes as will anyone who switches to our most hated rival. Would you expect anything less? You don’t think if Bo had switched to Bammer it wouldn’t have been moved to the Rivals thread and be wouldn’t have been absolutely shredded on this board? Nowhere near the same situation.
Notice the Tre Donaldson thread was not moved. Perfect example. Transfer to Michigan not the same as to Updyke U.

I'm happy for Bo. What a great kid. And loved the fact that alot of his film they showed was in an AU uniform.
All that said though:
Bo struggled against SEC caliber defenses and yes much of that was bc he played behind a piss poor Oline, but he also missed a whole bunch of wide open receivers for TD's that I remember watching.
He went from a league with the very best defenses week in and week out, to a league that basically plays NO DEFENSE.
So to sum it up: I hope Bo balls out in the NFL, but he's going to have to prove it to me against NFL defenses.
I’d trust the opinion of professionals whose livelihood is dependent on being experts in this particular field over fan site message boards but that’s just me.

Love it love it love it. It’s an absolute shame he wasn’t drafted as an AU Tiger.

Agree, this is one of many reasons CBP is not going to Kentucky. UK, wants a white collar, GQ looking & sounding head coach. UK is the image, the coach is not the image.
That is nothing like Bruce Pearl. CBP may be on their list but he is way down the list. Secondly, recruiting is not what it used to be. All the 5* one-&-done recruits, UK had this year proves it when they bombed out in the SEC tournament and the NCAA. That team was the most blue blood * loaded team imaginable. Bruce Pearl wants players with heart & desire, not NIL$ prima-donnas. Pearl wants to coach, develop, and father a family, not manage spoiled ego maniacs. Bruce's teams display Bruce's heart & character. That cannot happen at UK.
Not sure how GQ Mark Pope looks though lol.

Love it. Really enjoy seeing Dylan progress over the past few years. He is such a great ambassador for AU. Really happy for him and for all of us.

I will respectfully disagree on the good guard play. All the guards had to do was manage the game and don’t turn the ball over. Auburn front court masked the back court deficiencies. As u can see in the tournament u would need contributions from your guards
Correct. We won 25 games and a league tourney title because of Broome primarily along with a generally good overall team/ depth. I would say our PG play was serviceable over the regular season but that’s about it. And unfortunately the regular season and the NCAA tournament are two different animals and serviceable won’t cut it.

Once again? Since when? Only Jared Harper comes to mind at point.
Then sounds like you’ve answered your own question.

Good for all involved. Now let’s get some real play makers in here at the guard spot once again.

I don't think it has much to do with it. We built an arena and hired Barbee. It has to do with finding and GETTING a fantastic basketball coach.
Seems like it’s both to me. Having the right coach works hand in hand with having the proper facilities and economic leverage to make things happen. Both you guys are right lol.

Are you breaking news, señor?
Ha nah. He just has apparently not been with the team since the tourney loss and wasn’t with them at the signing today. I’ve certainly not got any concrete info.

The slippery slope of showing Aden the door is optics of missing on evaluations. There have been more wrongs than right. Ideally hoping Aden makes a decent leap in year two
If he makes the leap it will apparently be for someone not named AU.

It doesn't sound like KD was kicked out. He wants to play somewhere else and then come back to AU to finish his degree. He wants to say he graduated from AU.
He may not have been kicked out yes, but he was definitely told it would be more of the same for him. Coming off the bench and a role player at best. You can show someone the door w/out literally telling them to hit the road imo. From Bruce:
What I anticipated in my meetings with KD was that our roster in the backcourt, particularly with Denver Jones returning, it's going to be a little bit more of the same for KD. "In other words, coming off the bench (and) not quite being able to play as freely as he would've liked to play. There's only so many minutes, only so much opportunity."

Just to attach some numbers to mediocrity and nuthin
Last year Auburn finished 36th in the Directors Cup (a more or less overall ranking of a school's athletic teams performances)
That was 10th in the SEC (Texas and Oklahoma finished higher than us too if you are looking to the future)
2 Texas
5 Florida
6 Tennessee
7 Georgia
9 LSU
12 Alabama
13 Arkansas
18 Kentucky
23 Oklahoma
24 Texas A&M
33 South Carolina
36 Auburn
39 Ole Miss
50 Missouri
56 Vanderbilt
57 Mississippi State
So we are 12th in what will be the new look SEC in overall athletic success. What’s sad is that some folks here will still defend this when presented with an obvious statistic that isn’t that great to say the least. The point of this OP to me is about overall mediocrity, it should be understood we have some success here and there but this really hits home on where we are at as a whole at the moment.
