That's how AU has historically done its recruiting. Beat them for just a few top guys and you have a top 10 class.

Agree completely. At the risk of further derailment: I think we will continue to lag behind as long as Jay Doofus is running the show. Making money not the problem for him; having the good sense/wisdom about how best to use it seems to be.

Understood. Didn't open link but I have to admit the pics of the stuff at Bama and Oregon that I saw a year or two ago were impressive. I know it would have made a big impression on me as an 18-21 year old... Or, heck, as a 50 year old, lol.

This was Butch Jones year to make noise with Dobbs at qb and they were not very good most of the year. Maybe these recruits see the slide coming again for UT (can you slide if you never really climbed? Hmmm....)

I think TAMU has as many or more playmakers than AU. Not sure that factor is tipping the scales in our favor.

That's awesome! My wife thinks it's juvenile () but I still think it's hilarious after seeing it dozens of times. I still watch it at least once a year, just wait til she's out of town. Oh well, back to Mr. Stidham....

Interesting to see if anything happens to Sumlin and if that affects Stidham. Kind of doubt TAMU cans Sumlin this year but they have to be tired of the late season swoon every year. LSU spanked that a-- last night, with several key players not playing

Hey, I get it- recruiting is an inexact "science" at best. We just chose a guy that had never even remotely demonstrated that he had the skill set to come in and be a successful starting QB in the SEC. And, our staff clearly thought we needed someone that was capable of that. Thought it was a weird bit of recruiting at the time and have seen nothing to make me think otherwise.

I was thinking maybe Evans, now at VT, or Webb, now at Cal- both are clearly finished products that are clearly a better option than Franklin was ever going to be, especially Webb. Brandon Harris never was a sure thing and probably never will be. We chose to shop in the JUCO/grad transfer store and picked one of the least qualified options available at the time.

Gus was "forced" to put that effort into JFIII because he made a poor decision about who to bring in as a QB alternative to the ones we had on the roster. There were other "finished products" that would have come to AU if the staff (GM/RL) had done a decent job of evaluating the available talent pool.

I've been waiting for Stevens to sit for two years. The effort on that interception play pretty well sums it up for me. With the talent we have at that position I'm disappointed to see him still out there dropping balls and giving poor effort. Maybe that's just my perception; the offense didn't look worse with him out injured for sure.

I told my brothers last night that this was the worst offensive performance by AU since 2008 Bammer game. This seems to confirm that. Injuries or not, the complete lack of adaptability once again rears its ugly head.... and seems to be Gus' defining characteristic as a coach.

Good stuff as always. Hope SW can hit a deep ball or ten as that's the one area he's consistently been slightly off. If he does hit those we could put a real hurting on some black bears. WDE!
