Exactly . I was wondering that myself and never understood why coaches come to Auburn and do some trial and error stuff but here we are…

You got it. We don’t need experimental mac-n-cheese. Give us tried and true. Save the experimenting for behind closed doors in a private setting with no cameras.

Every where he went as an HC he was the primary play caller. It was his terminology. We certainly didn’t hire him to be a recruiting coordinator.  Surely you knew this though.

Much rather have him serving in a play caller role if he can get the ace recruiters he trusts. Clearly, serving in two roles won’t work.

Recruiting juggernaut…. but what about X’s and O’s?   Play calling? Would like to hear your thoughts on this.

I’m wondering the same thing. This year was a prime example of clearly needing a good balance and what a lack of it can potentially result.

The bigger question IMO is how many of those 6 throws were quality throws by Thorne?   I hope we can all agree that UGA is a pretty good ball club.   The narrative some have put out here is Thorne was only good against bad teams and against better teams he was really, really bad.    Against UGA Thorne had just 19 attempts.  10 were completions.   I think we can all agree than most any completion is a quality throw.   So let's focus on the 6 that hit the receiver's hands.   How many of them were quality throws recognizing that good teams sometimes turn quality throws into incompletions.  Even WED agrees that 3 were flat out drops.  So, without drops Thorne should have been 13 of 19.   That is 68% against the number 1 team in the country.  Of the other 3, how many were quality throws that could/should have been completed.    If it is just 1, then Thorne is at 74%.    74% against the number 1 team in the country isn't really really bad.  As info Milroe, the only QB to beat UGA, was 13 of 23 i.e. 56%.

I see the point you’re making here and could definitely agree. I could also make some counter arguments as well about the quality of some these passes. Admittedly, I’m not a great X’s and O’s guy, so to save everyone another mindless argument from my end, I’ll stop there. I’m gonna go eat some Cheerios now. Cheer(io)s!

I had high hopes for Sledge when he signed. Any human that big should be able to play football.

I suspect however that most of these guys hitting the portal are being encouraged to look elsewhere.

Seems like it was rumored that he was thinking about leaving before season last year. Hopefully he lands on his feet somewhere.

  6. Bama had one play, ONE play that they HAD to make and it had to be a touchdown. And you literally call the ONE play that allows the QB the MOST time to do what he has to do? Yeah, not a good play call.

  7. I am torn. This team has shown that when things go well +  playing at home, they can hang with more talented teams and make a game very competitive. They have also shown that they can lay a steaming heap.

Can they get/create some extra possessions through a turnover or two? I think that’s critical if they are gonna make a game out of it. I find it highly unlikely that we can go toe to toe with them otherwise.

Of course, it’s also the IB at home. So that JH voodoo is possible as well.
