  1. Durkin had been given a second chance by Kiffen.  He took advantage of that.  Hugh is just hiring a qualified guy to run his defense.

Liberty University gave Hugh a second chance . He took advantage of that. Auburn hired a qualified candidate who had success in the SEC.

neither HuGh or Auburn are doing some mythical redemption, second chance schtick as much as some of you wanna make it about your faith.

it is simply about winning football games any way possible.

We're not focusing on the right thing, I've made quite a few calls on here on both the football and basketball side.

If this pans out will I finally get my respect and finally be made a mod and get my insider registration card?

Have had my respect for a long time, learned tons in the basketball forum from possibly even the Lebo era.  By far the basketball expert on this forum!

  3. Brown could be the guy but jumping to some of the conclusions that I am seeing after seeing only 9 pass attempts is really alarming.  He faced a basic defense of back ups the last 7 minutes of a blow out bowl game where the other team was making sure every guy on the roster that suited up got some snaps.  It is great that he played well, it really is but I personally have not seen remotely close to enough to anoint him the something more than he did well in clean up duty.  How quickly some forget Jeremy Johnson.

So you asked who has Hugh developed *knowing* he doesn’t coach QBs?  Somewhat disingenuous, don’t you think?

Who ever coached up the Liberty QBs and Bo Wallace, I hope he is at Auburn now.

His qb coach from Liberty is on staff, not sure Bo Wallace was ever coached up By anyone.  He just got more comfortable in that type of offense.

I actually just looked up if he had ever been a qb coach because so many Auburn fans make claims of him being a qb developer when Hugh himself says he doesn’t work on fundamentals with qbs and doesn’t know that stuff.  Maybe it is the Gus factor of thinking Hugh micromanages every aspect of practice like Gus did.

LIberty signed Stephen Calvert and Johnathan Bennett out of high school while Turner Gill was the coach, but both found success under Freeze’s coaching.  Bo Wallace signed under Freeze at Arky State, transferred after a year and reunited with Freeze at Ole Miss in 2012.

So he has both the evaluation skills and teaching his system skills checked

I think he has these abilities.  This year is hard to judge with what he had to work with.

Hugh says he doesn’t develop qbs himself, and that qb coaches do that.

fun fact:  Hugh Freeze has never been a qb coach in his entire career

All three were brought in be a coach (HC or OC) that could not evaluate or develop a HS QB.  It would be better, IMO, to develop a QB from a pool that you evaluated for your system.  It doesn’t always work out that way so the portal is an option.

That same coach was responsible for Kodi Burns, Clint Mosley, Kiehl Frazier, Sean White, Joey Gatewood and Milik Willis (a success, but not at Auburn).

We seem to have a coach now that has evaluated HS QBs that have been successful.  It will be interesting how Walter White turns out.

I won’t speculate why Freeze doesn’t seem to be worried about getting a portal QB, but I am excited for the future of that position.

I am not bashing on Hugh,  but what high school quarterbacks has Hugh developed?

Has he even been at a school long enough to prove he develops QBs?

Or is it that he is just good at developing his offense around the talent he gets at qb?  Which is a great ability if not equal or better ability to have.

You completely lost me with the wasn't good enough to start for his team, like do you guys not realize the last 4 or heisman winners were transfers? The whole putting your fruit in one basket is why we have sucked at QB for so long.

But there's no reason to keep repeating ourselves over and over I guess. But no I don't blame everybody else for PT struggling. Saying we don't need a super star is just wild to me. But thanks for the convo though I disagree I respect your opinion.

Transfer Cam Newton, transfer Nick Marshall, transfer Jarrett Stidham.  3 best QBs at Auburn over the last 15 years. If you can bring in a better player you do it, I can't, well, I can, believe people are debating this with you.

Since this offense had never been fully installed, I don't think its fair to assume a new concept could be added.

You can use aspects of your offense that more closely relate to that type of approach. But we are not at the point where you just throw something out there before you have actually had the chance to teach your offense.

CHF is installing his version of the offense. unfortunately there will be growing pains. But he's building for the future, not for the now. Its a sad, but necessary, trade off.

And we did see a change in the passing game to more quick passes. Truthfully they should have started there and added in the more difficult schemes. But apparently it looked good in pre-season practice.

There were so many problems with the offense in basic execution almost every series.  Wrong routes, wrong reads, missed blocks, etc.  every single person who worked at offense had a degree of responsibility for that disaster of a performance this season.

hugh’s best skill is adapting his offense and play calling to his qbs strengths.  It wasn’t the focus early in the season and it showed.  We will be better, no doubt.  Hugh can hide or mask mediocre offensive line play better than we have seen in decades from our coaching staffs.  My main concern with Hugh is can he overcome the bad loss ability he has shown most seasons.

They started out so well but went on an incredibly bad losing streak.....what was the problem is something I'd like to know before offering this QB.

He hasn’t even entered or committed to entering the portal as of now.  Not saying he won’t any minute, however!

I am coming to the rationale these are just short notice band aid players and freeze is truly invested in the future..I mean this dude basically has put down this roster and stated he spent most of his time even prior to games with future recruits. It sickening and sucks, but that's my rationale.

He has ripped the roster repeatedly, which I find interesting at how many Auburn fans trash Coach Prime for doing the same thing…..

So let's have an adult coversation.   If you were in control how do you fix it...  Do you fire CHF after 11 games and go try to hire someone else?    Who do you know you can hire?   Do you shut the football program down and focus on baseball and basketball.   What do you do?

No, we sold our soul to Hugh and we gotta go with it.  We can’t fire a coach too early again. There is no way around it this is a terrible loss and it is 100% on the coaching staff and the main guy who claimed he had coaches upon coaches begging for a job with him…..

  12. The failure of the coaching staff to have the team prepared to kick the s*** out of the opponent at home needs to be a total warning sign, this was beyond embarrassing form tHe first quarter on.  We spend way too much money on coaches to have this type of prperation.

More talent at every position? --- their backup QB has 278 receiving yards.   Our leading wide receiver, Jay Fair, has 300.  Read that again, our leading wide receiver has 300 yards receiving.  They have 9 wins.  It has been 4 years since we have reached that total.

Bless your heart, when you wanna have an adult conversation come at me
