We are going to lose a heck of a lot down low next year: Wiley, McLemore, Purifoy.  Two-part question: 1) Who are we really actively in the hunt for as far as bigs go (Omoruyi, Maker, Brown)? 2) Who is likely to contribute next year on the existing roster (Akingbola, Williams)?  From everything I can tell, Babatunde will be our tallest guy at 6'8."

If we get Cliff, we'll have a 6'11 guy. We also bring in 6'6 Chris Moore who will have the body type of Okoro. (Big, strong small forward that can play PF if needed).

I hear you. I just think that everything typically remains fluid on both sides. I think the commitments of some kids are used as leverage to attract interest from other recruits. I think that some kids are just so talented that the coaches have to tolerate some ambiguity in the commitment. Other kids, not so much. Then there's the matter of coaches not being committed to their employers, or employers not being committed to their coaches, or coaches encouraging a commit to look elsewhere when a better recruit seems interested, or parents/uncles/guardians/"uncles" being committed to the bagman with the biggest bag... Honestly, it strikes me as a pretty ugly business all the way around. But I do feel like our staff has about as much integrity as any in the business (at least the business of *big time* CFB) and for that I'm very grateful.

Anyway. I do think that the current definition of "commitment" in the recruiting world is something these kids learned from the adults in the room.

Yep, I can get behind that logic, thanks loof

Who made a big deal first, the recruits or the coaches (and fans) desperate for them to sign? IMO, the recruits are just giving "us" what "we" asked for.

Would you say coaches are pushing recruits to give them a "commitment" while still allowing them to visit elsewhere? It seems like most coaches would want these guys to commit and shut down their recruitment with other schools. I just don't get the point of a commitment I guess. Genuine question that I don't know the answer to.

Exactly.  He used to be a South Carolina commit.  We were thrilled to flip him then...

I understand that, and I don't think he should've been a South Carolina commit. He wasn't fully sold on committing to play ball there. I get that these are kids and they're making tough decisions, but I just haven't liked the fact, for years now, that the commitment to a school means almost nothing for a lot of guys. Why make such a big deal about committing when you are still deciding?

Say we whiff on the top four targets as expected, do you have a guess on the two most likely signees in the spring? Most think we get a small guy 6'-2 or 6'-3  who can play 1 or 2 and a big guy 6'-8+ for 4 and/or 5.

@ellitor could answer better than me but from all the noise I would assume in the scenario that we lose out on all three of Brown, Green, and Omoruyi (Williams committed to Ark today)  our next two signees would be:

Jayden Stone (4* CG) and Rongie Gordon (3* PF).

Stone has dropped off a little since last season but would probably still be a take for us if we miss out on some guys. Gordon has, IMO, a huge amount of potential but might be a little raw to begin

I dont know what service has our class a top 10, but I feel like we could be in top 5 if Jalen's shoe lands one way

Here's a crazy thought, Auburn could end up with about the number 2/3 class in the nation if everything goes right, and they pull in Jalen Green, Greg Brown, and one of Jaylin Williams or Cliff Omoruyi. Really exciting times...

Really glad to see Cohen back on campus. The more we get him around fellow commits, the better.

Also incredibly excited about GaQuincy McKinstry if we can get him. I'd love to see another two-big sport athlete at AU

  8. For anyone that missed it: Chris Moore, 3* PF (4* by 247 Sports) has committed to Auburn! OP will be updated to include him as a commit shortly.

Pearl's Tigers land four-star forward for 2020 signee class

    ByMARK MURPHY

Chris Moore, one of Auburn’s primary targets for the 2020 basketball signing class, announced on Saturday that he will play for Coach Bruce Pearl’s Tigers. The senior at West Memphis High School in Arkansas made the announcement at a press conference.

Ranked four stars by 247Sports as the No. 91 overall prospect nationally, Moore is rated as the No. four prospect in the state of Arkansas and the No. 26 power forward prospect in the nation.

Moore chose the Tigers over the University of Arkansas and Memphis. He was on the AU campus recently for an official visit as he checked out Auburn’s exhibition game victory over Eckerd.

The prospect said that he has a high opinion of Coach Bruce Pearl. “He is a down to earth guy, he is an energy guy, and he treats you like family. Sometimes when you go to a college you feel like just a player, but Bruce Pearl is different. You feel like you are part of a family and that is something that really intrigued me about him.

Recruited by assistant coach Wes Flanigan, Moore noted he has a good relationship with the coach and his son Allen, who is a freshman on the Auburn team from Little Rock, Ark. “Coach Flanigan, I call him ‘Unc’ because he is old school, but Coach Flanigan is a great guy, an old school guy,” Moore said. “He ticks on me all of the time just like I am one of his because he has known me for a little while now. He is just a down to earth guy as well.”

Moore is the third commitment for the Tigers for the 2020 class joining 6-6 guard Justin Powell from North Oldham High in Goshen, Ky., and 6-0 point guard Sharife Cooper from McEachern High in Powder Springs, Ga. Powell signed with the Tigers this week and Cooper is expected to do the same thing in the early period, which runs through Tuesday.

It's not surprising that AU is no longer #1 with him. Tisdol has wanted to commit to AU since back in the summer and we won't take his commitment. We have been slow playing him instead. Even after Simpson bailed on us we still haven't given Tisdol a firm offer. I'd look elsewhere too.

Hate this. Really like Tisdol and wish we'd give him a shot. I know we want a QB and some DLs but this guy would be fantastic

  10. Rumor alert:

There are some rumblings on the ITAT boards that things are happening for 2 AU prospects that are really good for AU- one of these players is currently committed to another school and was a big time AU prospect beforehand. Not Kessler or Brakefield, however. I don’t know any particulars, just saw a pretty reliable poster relayed this info. Will monitor..
