One of my all time favorites

I bumped into Reggie in a Pensacola nightclub one night a few months after his stellar 1989 30-20 Iron Bowl victory.  When I approached him, discreetly introduced myself, and congratulated him on the victory, I realized just how built he really was.  His biceps were about the size of my thighs!  He was a really nice guy and one of my favorite Auburn QB’s behind Pat Sullivan.

I agree. In that situation, I would want the QB to run, not have a spy trying to keep him in the pocket. I would have preferred to have 3 rushing and basically give him a running lane to one side to try and goad him into running. If he takes the bait then the 8 guys in the end zone close in and make the tackle. If he is able to outmaneuver 8 guys and get to the end zone, then so be it, but giving him all day to wait for a receiver to get open and then have no pass rush to disrupt his throw made no sense. Seems like the worst of all options.

I’ve having similar thoughts about baiting Milroe to run.  If he’s contained to one side of the field chances are much better that he could be stopped.

I've said this on here for a couple years but look at our hires back to Shug.

Shug) wasn't a big name when hired

    Barfield) was Shug's OC

Dye) HC at East Carolina and Wyoming

    Bowden) HC at Samford

Tuberville) barely a .500 HC at Ole Miss

Chizik) 5-19 and fresh off 10 straight losses at Iowa State

Gus) HC for 1 year at Arkansas St.

Harsin) HC at Arkansas St. and Boise St.

Freeze) HC at Lambuth, Arkansas St., Ole Miss and Liberty

We've never swung big for a HC and I'd argue we never will. They always spin a so-so hire by saying he's their first choice and the best fit. It is what it is at this point.

Has it ever occurred to you that there were few or no splash hire candidates available at the time of the hires?  Look at Texas A&M right now.  They have unlimited resources and are unable to swing for the fences because there are no big names available.   At the end of the day, it’s a business decision and a business decision doesn’t always come down to spending a ton of money.
