Really happy to see this. Maybe this is his time now and he will excel. So many people, mostly old dudes on this board, place unrealistic expectations that may not be realized until several years in their playing career. So happy he is back and in the fold.

True. I gauge a prospect by how much he can improve in year one. I don’t expect recruits to show up as 5* recruits and if they do they usually let it go to their head and screw up after that.

    1. He has hit the road on awesome fashion to rub-nub and howdy-there with bunches of Alabama high school coaches. This is AWESOMENESS way beyond Harsin and I am really impressed.

    2. He is hiring his buds from Liberty and Ole Miss. I guess we'd expect that with a new coach, but personally I'd like to see some nationally great hires -- i.e. from NFL or great teams. This not only for expertise, but also from recruiting vantage. For example, Saban hires O'Brien

Am I the only one who is concerned about another Malzahn-like good buddy staff ..... and worse .... Harsin-like good buddy staff.

I'm hoping for some A+ surprise hires at the assistant/coordinator level.

Not really worried at this point. It’s always easier to hire folks after you are seen as someone that will stay around especially at AU lately. I think he studies these guys philosophy and decides if it will work in his program. I think it’s not so much in your first hires as your subsequent hires that really tell the truth about a coach. He will make sone mistakes on these first hire what we want to see is what he does then . 🤔

  3. Robby has the ability, he just needs to be taught a little and improve his passing especially his touch passes . He also needs to learn to read the field better and learn some patience in the backfield and allow things to develop. Robby is playing sandlot football at the present but he is gifted in athletic ability. He reminds me of Bennet IV in his early years. I totally believe Robby is coachable. But we do need good backups as well.

My biggest fear there, was that I thought no one should be dictated to whoever the next head coach was.  I thought Caddy's work spoke for itself, and the man bleeds Auburn, but I did not think it wise to force-feed retaining him down an incoming coach's throat.  Based on what Freeze had to say about him during the presser, Freeze sounded genuinely sold on him, and Caddy earned the job himself.  I think that is best for the work relationship for both of them.

I mean seriously that was the easiest choice Freeze made. First who better to coach RBs than one of the best ever. Second he is Hugh’s ticket to getting the family behind him. A lot of folks would have been mad. Plus as I said yesterday, nothing against Freeze but Caddy was the AU presidents and AD’s ace in the hole to assure there are no repeats of past mistakes. And I think Hugh is fine with that. That might have been Kiffen’s reason for backing out and I’m good with that. Like I said Hugh is getting a great present in Cadillac . 😊👍

No reason Auburn can’t be in the playoff hunt in 2024.  I think I heard yesterday that LSU was in the same position scholly wise as Auburn will be after this year.  Last I checked they play in Atlanta this weekend.  2 portal classes and 1 HS class could get Auburn top 15 depending on how things break.  Obvious goal is to depend less and less on the portal except for roster band aids and home run prospects.

True with the portal things can change fast. Look at the Joe Borrows, that transferred looking like a walk on then turned  into a Heisman winner the next year at the new school.

I can’t imagine any reasonable AU person would expect a playoff spot next year. That’s pushing it a little even for a crazy fanbase like us lol. :)

Why? Lately at AU football, head coaches come  in and win a championship year one,  then we give them a 100 million contract and the next year they go to crap . So I would be ok if maybe we just have a winning record and then improve every year afterward 🤔

    Nope, just fubar'd the links.

    My bad, guys

As a side note, I'm now wondering what I might've accidentally ordered from Amazon this morning

Don’t feel bad I delivered my power bill to The water company’s drop box and as I drove off I figured out what I just did. Had to call them the next morning to go get it but they said no problem we have this often so we go over and pick our bills there and deliver their bills that we got. 😂so I guess it’s pretty normal . 😊

That was a really odd explanation by Freeze. I’m good in the red zone so maybe I should hire an OC that is not good in the red zone to help them. Do what???

I think he meant hire someone whose expertise is getting the team to get down to the red zone. I know Coach Freeze is good offensively but to be really successful coach you have to worry more about everything and hire good leaders to handle the individual  departments. That’s how you win games.  Just give your leaders the overall plan and how you want things handled. Like Nick says, he listens to play calls and can override any but he doesn’t try to micromanage each department .

So it has recently been reported by Ashford that he played most of the season with an AC sprain to his throwing shoulder. The pain was so bad he couldn’t sleep some nights and wouldn’t throw all week in practice.

This makes sense because when he first started getting playtime I thought he’d flash a nice accurate pass across the middle or deep with a lot of zip on it.

By the time Caddy was coach, the zip he had on the ball appeared gone and with it the little bit of accuracy he seemed to have.

very excited to see what he can do when healthy.

One thing I expect from Coach Freeze is a good hire on the OL coaching and sone really good recruiting some good OLs . Also need a hood hire for strength coordinator . Outline has been a huge problem not just in recruiting but in development and coaching. As Pat used to say games are win and lost in the trenches. Look no further than tuscalooser this year. You have a  Heisman  QB and world class RBs but their OL was down this year and it cost them dearly. The OL and DL can make or break those players playing behind them.

The relinquish control of his twitter rumor has been debunked.   Some people will believe anything as long as it supports their narrative.

I do not think Freeze had a "Show Cause"  to come back and coach.  I could be wrong tho.

You are correct he did not have a show cause but under SEC rules and coach involved or terminated for NCAA violations  and he was charged with failure to oversee the program, require the President of the University to meet with commissioner and explain precautions in place to prevent another episode. Again SEC and AU football are big money not only effecting the team but the university, conference ,ESPN,local businesses and student and teachers. They all need to be protected from an individual that can bring financial harm upon them. That why the rule is there. No Auburn is not going to humiliate an employee by telling you they required him to oversight of his social media , but believe me they do and should . Same with Pearl or any other coach or employee in the leadership position  of the program   🤔

no kidding. Auburn just hired a guy who they felt couldn't be trusted to handle his own social media account(s). amazing. i hope it works out.

Actually most universities as well as companies going that route. Sone times all of us are prone to make a comment in social media we should refrain from. That’s why it is good to have someone else looking over your remarks when you are the face of something as important as AU Football or AU anything.

    Some more, from Auburn's end:

Not surprised . As I said the SEC bylaws require for the AU president to show that precautions are being taken in cases like this. Just like Bruce couldn’t recruit early on. And university should require some conditions for all coaches so they don’t hurt the University. If a coach resist the conditions then the university should not accept them. A lot of money and prestige are in the hands of these coaches also they should have boundaries drawn for them.

  13. So let the positive folks talk. Who is on the wish list for Coach Freeze to hire .  Saw him talking about some new young OCs he has watched. Who sounds good at DC. Would like to hear everyone’s thoughts and wishes. 😊🦅

"If he hadn't won the games he won, would we think he's good" is an odd way to look at it.

Agreed. Look at Hughs overall record and I doubt you find better. Are we going to say Nick Saban isn’t really good because he lost to Louisiana Monroe his first year? No. And we can’t Judge Hugh’s first year at OM where he inherited a really bad team. When you look at wins and losses it has to include who those wins and losses came from and what his team looked like when he came in. Hugh can and has made teams better . Also Hugh Freeze wasn’t hit with any penalties , in fact they said he run his program well. Most of the stuff was on Nutt. Did Hugh make a personal mistake yes. But he doesn’t owe anyone other than his family an apology and making it up to them. Nuff said.

Without those two games would he be the head coach?

Yes. He has proven to be one of the best offensive minds in college football and does well at recruiting as well as player development . But we haven’t had a coach that could beat NS back to back in quite a while . In fact no one in the SEC has beat him twice back to back. I agree with Cohen, Freeze was hands down the best coach for Auburn at the moment . 🤔

Unify behind the team; sure.  This players and the staff didn't do what Freeze did.

But you expect me to "defend" this guy?  Really?  That's the standard here.  I have to defend cheating, infidelity, lying, misuse of government property, hookers and having so little maturity he doesn't understand the risk he runs by engaging in a conversion of legal adversaries of his institution when that is not his role; and can only further damage, damaged goods; or his institution...if I don't defend this, then I am divisive?   Seriously dude....

I can't "forgive" Freeze;  that's not my place as he didn't do anything to me.  That's for his family.  It looks like they have.  Fine. I am glad he was making over $4m a year at Liberty and was happy there apparently.  He should be very thankful he had that gig and his family stuck by him.  That doesn't mean I need to feel some compunction to hire the guy or have him associate with the Auburn athletic program.  Why would I wish him on some other parents kids when I wouldn't want him hanging around my own...he's not a role model.

What really chaps my ass is we've been lied to.  This whole thing around we're going big game hunting was BS.  He said we'd been talking to him for weeks.  There was no search.  Cohen is no different than the last cast of clown administrators.  You don't conduct a thorough search of all the available talent and land here.

We're going to hear about this every time Auburn is mentioned on every sports network in perpetuity....we're playing the opening game next year and the 1st thing you will hear from the commentators is not; "it's a new day on the plains"...it will be all about Auburn's disgraced head coach.....embroiled in sex assault case against the university...hookers...scandal...NCAA violations...they'll have a field day with it.  Get used to it.  It ain't going away just because it makes some of you uncomfortable.

I'm not going to defend this.

"There! Are! Four! Lights!" 12.15.16 - The Don Geronimo Show

This is probably the reason you “are not” the AD at AU. This is the real world and D1 big time football. Multimillion dollar business. It takes big folks like Cohen to actually solve problems instead of filling wish list for people who show up at a ballgame a time or two. These young players work their butts off and are entitled to be given a chance to be successful.   🤔😠
