  1. True story, bitten on a Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday I had been to the doctor with and ingrown big toe nail on same foot of the bite. Told to stay off the foot and shoe-less for a day or so. My mom left the house shopping. I immediately left the house and headed to the creek with some buddies, bare feet, running along the creek bank I thought I had stepped on a thorn. Looked down, saw the snake, let all know I had been bitten and ran like hell home. Never will forget one of my pals yelling something about cutting it and sucking the blood out. I outran them all. Found my Dad doing some work at a church close by and then my Mother came home. They took me back to my doctors office and immediately put my leg in ice and sent me to the hospital. The snake needed to be identified so Daddy went back with my buddies guiding and the Cottonmouth was still there. Biggest hurt was my Mother raising hell about me sneaking out of house.
  2. I stepped on Cottonmouth when I was 11 or 12. They keep me in the hospital for 5 or 6 days back then. Thing bit me on the ball of the foot and my entire leg turned blue and swelled. Started studying snakes at that time and became fascinated with them. Most snakes we encounter are not given a fair shake and are harmless. Naturally you need to eliminate a poisonous in your house or yard. I would never kill a snake in its natural environment.
  3. How would it have gotten into the hamper? Good job, you do want rat snakes around and the Black Indigo snakes. With the decline in the Black Indigo there was a rise in the Copperhead population as they do eat the nasty snakes. Auburn raised and released many in south Alabama and the Panhandle in an effort to offset the situation in those areas. One thing, most snake bites do occur in unsuspecting places around your home.
  4. I have insight. They do not climb but I have seen them fly. Get some heavy duty custom screens on the windows and the problem should alleviated ?
  5. Local from Port Saint Joe. Sing at early service PSJ Methodist overlooking St.Joe Bay on Sunday mornings.
  6. caught this morning out of Orange Beach by family and great Auburn people. Not snapper season thus kissed and released.
  7. Loof, Lake Eufala is infested with gators. Saw a 14' fishing with a guide several years ago. They have a lottery and issue gator tags once a year for hunters to harvest. One of my sons and some his buddies got into gator hunting in college and were drawn for some Eufala tags. Walked out of my house in Auburn early one morning and they had an 11' gator stretched in front of the garage
  8. Been catching a lot of Pompano lately. Got to be up and fishing early right now, change of light best. Fun and great on the grill.
  9. My local station staple, 105 Oyster radio, Apalachicola
  10. I stepped on Cottonmouth when I was 11. It did bite and and I stayed in hospital for 5 days. Bit me on the ball of the foot and my entire leg swelled and turned blueish. They did not know how to treat snakebites in those days. I think there treatment caused more problems than the bite. Snakes Lives Matter
  11. That is nasty one. Fat Cottonmouth under a downspout splash block. Half hibernating I suppose. Had to wake him with the snake stick. Wife was moving the splash block and yelled OH SH*T. That means snake in woman yard language. Did not kill. Released in a Georgia fans yard.
  12. The first house the wife and I lived in many years ago was in West Point, Ga. Built in 1931 by Shaffer Heard, who the West Point Dam is named for. House was elevated and had some good shade plus an attic fan that would probably push an airboat. Used to tell people it would suck water from the toilets. We ran that thing continually in summer months and rarely depended on AC. As a side note, Mr. Heard was the Senator and major player in damming the river to create West Point Lake. All of the old surveys, correspondence. etc..for procuring the dam were boxed up and in the attic beside the fan.

  15. That will be a fun trip. Rest assured you will limit on snapper for some groceries and have fun with sharks. Look forward to being tired that night. I took a great 3 day trip awhile back from Biloxi out to the Chandeleur barrier islands, fishing heaven then but sure don't want to wade in a place like that. No shortage of Bull sharks.
  16. Caught two about like that in Auburn Christmas Eve. Coastal fishing inshore has been awful lately. Fish are hiding when normally great right now. Been cold for this part of world.
  17. No blame on Mr. Greene faux. 70 degrees Sunday. This little cold diversion needs to return to wherever. "Blame" always a an appropriate word for anything new when we are in these unbearable conditions. Please come back "local tree-frog chorus"
