  1. Others on other podcasts saying the same thing about TJ. Ran all the different pass configurations and he was nailing most of them. Now bringing in McCall for a one and out would be interesting to say the least. I doubt Faulk is going against Wade. Wright said no one has gotten past Wade all spring. Now he did say Mba is the real deal, as did Jason Jones, said he is very quick and stronger than an ox. Playing him at strongside end rather than inside and said he is quick enough to stay at end even with his size.
  2. Apparently its not just one person saying that about TJ. In this scrimmage they ran several, several different passing routes and situations and TJ darn near nailed them all. The plot thickens.
  3. Lets not use iverson as an example for anything, that POS should have gone to prison for five years for criminally maiming a kid instead of Georgetown. And the story about his chinese tattoo shows just what an idiot he is. Now back to football......
  4. This department that AK Mogulla is running is certainly finding some fellas that arent on the most wanted list til he serves them up. This Phillips kid is now wanted by everyone, same with this OT Eagan Boyer, he is a three star, we start courting him and now everyone is offering. SO SO nice to see us start working with kids early instead of just "mailing it in".
  5. And I was agreeing with you Bird, might sneak in there and pick Riley up. That Hill kid though, he has great hands. And when he runs his RAT (thats runs after touching), lol, cause the defense looks scared to get close to him once he touches the ball, are pretty stout.
  6. I saw where bama is only going to take one RB, makes sense they got two beasts last cycle. Im not sure Hill would be considered number one on their board, at least at running back and I think he has made it clear he wants to play that in college. But who knows he sure does fit that running mold of Bo Scarbrough or Henry. Hill and Riley, oh la la what a backfield that would be. And I dont think we poached Seth from Alabama. If you look at their roster, the previous year they signed Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, and DeVonta Smith. For good measure the following year they passed on Seth and picked up a fella named Jaylen Waddle. My fondest memory of Seth was when they called a play, it wasnt his so he decided not to participate. The ball is snapped he takes a couple of steps off the line and then turns around to watch Bo scramble for his life. The corner "covering" Seth runs around him and sacks Bo. Seth adjusted his cup and walked back to the huddle.
  7. Most of the comments on here about a mobile QB, ASSUME the QB can also throw, if he cant, they stack the box with eight and lose the game. Of the QBs in the pros, some can run but ALL can throw the ball, hence the reason there are holes to run. Holden will win the job in the spring, he just fits what the offense needs, but I dont think the comfort level will be there. Thus I hope McCall comes. Regarding him still playing ball in the spring.....isnt he on a football scholly, he cant just quit and continue to go to school I dont think.
  8. I heard the same comments from two different internet sites who said the players themselves said, if we had an OL last year Holden would have started he is by far the most accurate. Coach Freeze said the number one thing he wants in a QB is .....accuracy, mobility was fourth on the list. You see thats because bama, georgia, and LSU have won fistfuls of championships and none of their QBs had the last name Newton. Mobility is WAY over rated. Or perhaps you would rather have Milrose than Joe Burrow?? Holden has a big arm, but who cares, its his accuracy and his reading of progressions that gives me the jimmies. And once he had scanned his progressions, the ball is out of his hands in a Dan Marino second. He is perfect for a Freeze offense. I read the stories about he is so behind, they had a 20 minute viewing window of them mostly throwing in drills.....and he is way behind??????? But given a perfect world, Id love to see him get a year behind McCall. That just went away after he could not transfer. He was 31 credits short of graduating, very doable in spring and summer. Nick Marshall came in the fall and he was not too shabby. McCall has four years experience not like he is coming out of HS.
  9. WED, Id hope between the two in the portal OTs and the transfer, one can slide into one of the guard spots which would be ideal. You still need one in the portal cause you have no one left if one guy goes down. But then Harris are one of the other underclassmen maybe they step up. Good news on feedback regarding Holden, boy will get his shot, I think he shines and never looks back.
  10. Holden has been in the system a year, albeit with little coaching help, but he does know the process and the players. Some on the team have said if we had any line he would have been the starter last season because in practice he is by far the most accurate passer. He will come out of spring the starter, the question is, do the coaching staff feel confident enough in him or do they go to the portal. McCall, I dont know why he cant graduate and then come over, 31 credits in two semesters particularly with one being a compressed summer session is not a lot, but who knows. Vandagriff could probably challenge that SEC conference rule transfer and win if he wanted to come, seems totally against the NCAA ruling as a whole and you cant pick and chose your regs for your conference. But he is just another inexperienced, highly touted HS QB. He walks into spring as the number 2 as it is, note the championship game, when they were up by six touchdowns he didnt get the call, Beck did. And behind him is Gunner, who BOBO wanted as a qb at Auburn. And as others have mentioned, we need help now not a year or two from now, that hopefully is already fixed with baby goat and White.
  11. Some other things regarding recruitment, boy we have a large administrative side for it. And it makes sense with HS and portal and various compliance regs, Coaches come to them and say we want two guys for lets say Jack/Edge linebacker and we want someone who plays like Leota. Someone who can seal the edge against the run but also rush, and maybe even fall into coverage on from time to time. We go scour the films and come up with candidates and serve them up. They prioritize, then we schedule the visits, with all the film background, the personal bio info, his coach their background and we schedule a route that puts them in contact with the most kids in the shortest and most geographic manner, which is quite a logistics feat. Seems to be working thats how you get in early on someone like Phillips from Tuskegee that has now blown up in recruiting after we offered. Boy just a breath of fresh air on the recruiting front.
  12. You guys should go check out the interview Keith and company had with AK Mogulla Auburns new Director of Player Personnel. He followed Freeze from Liberty, very well spoken fella. From India, came here at four years of age didnt speak a word of english. Fell in love with football, different college stinte a few pro stops, very young guy. Said his whole family are all doctors or IT engineers and he just loves football. With all the ways hi tech has become important for communications and particularly evaluations, I got the feeling I was watching a scene from moneyball! Which is a good thing. Said the number one thing after evaluations....we need linemen, lots of them, and on both sides of the ball and we didnt need just bodies, we needed players. We did okay, but that is and will continue to be a focus, the trenches win championships. AHHHHHHHH what a breath of fresh air.
  13. I dont think we have to worry about spots in this new era. The portal works both ways. Gone are the days when we didnt want to pull a scholly cause a kid would have to sit a year after transferring. If they think the grass is greener and want to enter the portal, we too can think a spot on the roster would be better suited to a performer. If we are paying, they better be playin. Speaking of, anyone catch the news about Saban and the portal. Said one of his starters wanted 500K and to pay for his girlfriend to go to law school at Bama and he told him to hit the road...they say it was Cohen but he did not mention a name only said it was a starter....and he has only lost one true starter in the last portal so go figure.
  14. AEAgirl, I was agreeing with you that it wasnt the money and it never was close to the exorbitant amount people were claiming he was offered. And it was his supporting cast that caused the drop off as much as the playcalling.
  15. Regarding the QB situation. If Sanders did not come, with spring this close, he is not our choice and someone else is. And Im not certain we will have to wait til after spring to find out. Consider this, you are at another SEC school and you are going into spring to battle one or two other QBs who are pretty good. Do you wait to see if you start or do you transfer to Auburn where it will be pretty easy to be named the starter?
  16. Regarding these nil numbers, ask yourself, do you really believe a QB that is signing with NCState is making more than a rookie in the NFL??????? Seriously. If he was that good he would have gone to the NFL. Regarding Auburn's NIL, remember that money has to go to all the other sports as well, Im sure Bruce Pearl needs his piece, what about gymnastics, etc. And there is that matter of paying the players (the ones worth it) who are already on campus. I suspect thats part of the huge exodus at Texas A&M. And what about the staff for Road to Victory, you think lawyers to set up contracts come cheap? And remember we are trying to fill FAR more spots than our rivals so the money has to go a lot further.
  17. Sorry if I came across as negative to anyone regarding Geriner, I think he will be good, but definitely needs to learn behind an experienced QB. Last year he rarely saw a play develop because the QB was running for his life so he never got to see how defenses reacted etc, this year will be a great learning experience. Regarding Sanders, Im curious as well about his "injury", I didnt know he had been hurt, is he healthy?
  18. WED, I agree on Geriner, contrary to it being a negative, bringing in a one and done, particularly with the experience Sanders has, will be ideal for Geriner, to learn, and hopefully get some playing time and get acclimated to the speed. In high school Geriner played against smaller schools but the talent around him was not exactly Mater Dei either. In film he does a great job with reading progressions quickly and VERY quickly releasing the ball once he has done the reads, perfect for a Freeze offense. Regarding players "shopping" themselves. Its a two way street fellas, and you are seeing this, heck we did it to a couple of our players. Hit the portal to shop around, wanted to come back out of the portal when there werent many bites......and we told to just stay there "we good". Now they have been there for quite a while and no one is a calling. And they were sitting on a full ride at a very good school.
  19. I think classes start on the 19th so Im guessing they have until the 18th? Anyone who visits this weekend certainly knows this so hopefully come with their suitcases and toothbrush😁
  20. These salaries being discussed are not realistic. First, most of the kids have one year remaining so they could go pro if they wanted......why arent they, if they are that good, why are they hanging around college.....because they arent thats why. So what they are paid should not be at the pro level. Practice squad players make about 230K and the minimum for a rookie is 660K. Some say the fella with the broken wing didnt sign with Auburn because he wanted 875K, come on, be realistic. Most of these numbers being thrown around are by the agents themselves trying to pump the stock.
  21. I agree Ellitor, I think our top couple of targets are not officially in the portal yet. Ive seen Vandagriff name brought up a lot but he has no more experience than Geriner, he isnt going to help us this fall. We need an experienced starter, probably one and done, and then our current qbs will be more seasoned under this system. And plenty of other players in all positions will become available as bowl games end. A QB, few more OL and DL, receiver or two, and another LB. I also agree with Ellitor here, we already signed one, he just isnt listed as such, but he is about one Big Mac from being the same size as Zacoby and he wasnt quite bad was he? Heck we still have 20 spots left, though I think we will still be adding in the fall to get there lol
  22. Remember the first transfer portal window is open for another couple of weeks, thus Im certain many of the transfers have a few other visits to take. It was amazing to see so many of them take their first visit to us as soon as the portal opened, very encouraging. I did like the comment from one of the recruiting fellas. He said you walk around the facility/campus youu see these high school recruits looking quite impressive, then you see these portal lineman and say...now there are some full grown men!
  23. Rouse is a four year starter who will have many options. He said he entered the portal on Thursday. That means the staff contacted him and he ends up on a plane the next day to travel nearly 3000 miles to make a visit. His first visit anywhere. Does that sound like he might be interested??? Im surprised he did not roll his eyes at the interviewer when asked and say "YAAAA think?????" Might want to lighten up a little bit. He needs to look around, he will probably sign and be in for spring, he knows the importance of it as much as any on this board.
  24. I believe Jatta is from outside Los Angeles. He said he wanted to play in the SEC so we shall see. LA is 16 hours drive time from Boulder, across 2 mountain ranges, in the winter, it aint like he is playing down the road if he chose Colorado. The OL recruiting is turning out fantastic, and layering, some HS, some portal, some JC so we wont end up with the entire line graduating at the same time again hopefully. Throw in McCall for QB and we will be cooking with gas. DL is looking kinda tepid, and it cant be helped given the circumstances, but sure is disappointing looking at how the state is probably more loaded than it has been in a decade and we may completely strike out. Really need Faulk to flip, and sure could use a couple more good ones.
  25. First, I think NIL money will keep players committed that we want to keep. Second, keep in mind, if we see the same increase as last year, this year will actually see more kids enter the portal than kids who sign a scholly coming out of high school. This past year 4100 kids enter the portal, the year before 2900. These are kids that have already proven themselves versus high school potential. Granted only about half change schools the rest remain at home and are probably just seeing if they can up their NIL money (I think if they enter they should have to leave it would stop the nonsense). My point is, we can fix the OL issues right quick and I believe this is why we have been increasing the administrative staff to focus on this new avenue of recruiting that will/has become just as important as HS recruiting. Too late for this season, but gone are the days when you miss a class or two and it takes half a decade to become relevant again.
