@KolchakAU85, congrats. You will not be forced to read any more of my unqualified input on this forum. In fact, you will not be ABLE to read any. I hope this pleases you. Please feel free to replace my input with your own. It’s all yours.

There are a lot of folks on this board that appreciate our insights and objectivity. I for one would appreciate it if you continue to post and let the mods deal with the smart asses.

I guess they need eyes in the back of their heads?  The REALLY good ones have an internal clock Like a qb feeling the backside rush. If they look back the we can break off the route or like previous mentioned you lose steps. The only way to play it different is to have safety help.

Most of the good DBs read the receivers eyes. When the receiver sees the ball coming he's focusing and you can read his eyes. At that point, a DB should be turning his head.

Really?  I totally don't remember that.  No surprise, however, I bet he was tired.

This is the exact play I was referencing earlier and as you stated, I can understand running from the same formation but giving the same guy the ball after its obvious he ran out of steam is something I dont understand.

Gus didn't take his foot off the gas against Mississippi State. Mississippi state adjusted to focus on Kam, slowing him down. One drive was shut down by Sean taking a sack.  The next, Kam fumbled. The third, we were buried deep and Kam couldn't dig us out. Finally, with the game in hand, we put Franklin in.

Don't forget, in many ways, Mississippi State was Kam's coming out party. Had they been fully aware of the weapon he was, they may have adjusted their game plan earlier.

This is not the thread but Gus admitted in the interview 'SEC in 60' that the second half we were going to run the ball.  In the first half of that game we split the plays pass/run. Yes MSST made some adjustments but Gus and AU did not play the same game they did the first half. AU ran to slow the game. AU could have hung more on MSST that game. Did we even score the second half? I don't care how you color it that's taking your foot of the gas IMO.

  5. Thanks Stat. I don't think he will have to hit the TE often just enough to make the D respect the potential and defend it. I guess that's the case for the passing game in general if you're a run first O. Personally, I would sure like to see some of those short crossing  routes utilized early and often.

And we have all of that now.

Count me in the camp of until I see them play this year none of them are NFL ready. Until they prove it on the field.. We have a lot of pieces that have potential but until that potential is displayed and we begin dominating other teams, I'll remain in the wait and see mode.

Not accusing UGA of anything, but some schools have been paying prospects not to trip a particular school/rival for a long, long time. It happens.

Seems to me that if a school (coach) can convince a kid to not visit school x in favor of visiting school y, that kid never had any intentions of going to/committing to the first school.

It's all about SW in my opinion.  If Sean can be serviceable then the offense should hum along. If Auburn can keep oklahoma's offense off the field then maybe this game will stay out of the 60's

I would say SW'S performance depends on 3 things. First and obvious is his health. Then it's the run game. If KP and KJ open up that can and begin to pour it on, SW should have time to throw it. Then there is the 3rd thing, will Gus allow SW to throw it.

I kind of follow what you are saying... No, telling him he has to evolve is not making him a "yes man".  Telling him he has to run a specific scheme, recruit specific players, etc would be making him a "yes man".  Pointing out that the rest of the college football world is adapting and he needs to adapt or die is just being honest with him.

I don't think Rhett is a "yes man" either. I don't even think he is a bad OC. What I think it that he and Gus being together isn't doing any good for either because it keeps them in a silo of their own creation.  All Rhett has really known is Gus, so he has had no opportunity to learn from others.  All Gus has really known is Rhett, so he has also had limited opportunity to learn from others (Hand potentially being an exception).

The best way to grow is to surround yourself with people who have different ideas, and be open to those ideas. Telling a coach that he needs to do that is nothing more than doing what's best for the team. Hopefully, seeing what Steele did with our D will open Gus up to that on the O.

The problem with using wins as the only measurement of success is that you aren't taking into account that a great player (like Stidham has the potential to be) can cover up for a lot of issues, and when that player leaves, you crash and burn (see Dan Mullen). At the same time, laying down some arbitrary level of performance expectation and then firing someone without outlining the points of failure that have been identified and giving them the opportunity to correct them (an ultimatum, if you must) is just bad management.

lionheart, thank you that's exactly what I was trying to say.

Unless we land a rock star QB... then we could have a great year(s) and pull a Dan Mullins when said QB leaves, unless Gus realizes that he needs to evolve.

A lot of people have accused CRL of being a 'yes man'.  If we tell Gus he has to evolve or fired, is this not the same thing as turning Gus in to a 'yes man'.  If you put a number of 'Ws' as a stipulation of Gus maintaining his job, a rock star QB can save him regardless of the scheme.  The expectations should have been laid when Gus was hired.  If they weren't they should have been in his latest Contract Extension.  That is what AU needs to hold Gus accountable to. if Gus is not performing up to expectations, he needs to go without levying ultimatums.

  11. Anyone can look at my posts since the Clemson game and see if am NO Gus fan but the minute you start dictating how a coach should do his job you might as well fire him. He gets paid extremely good to coach this team. If he can't do it then straight up fire him but you don't pay someone to do something and then tell him how to do the job. IMO this will make it extremely difficult to get a quality replacement for fear of meddling.   As bad as I despise Saban, I do admire him for not allowing anyone tell him how to run his team.

So what message is being sent to SW and WB by the coaches?

I think the message all the players should take is everyone is replaceable.  If you can't get the job done, next man up.

I think part of Gus's problem is he has been loyal to a fault.  I believe in giving everyone every opportunity to succeed but there comes a time when he has to move on to the next kid that can perform.  This has been evident in our receivers this year, IMO.

Not sure about the powers that be, but 8 & 4 ain't gonna cut it much longer.  ESPECIALLY losing to GA & UA EVERY year.  Gus will get cut some slack this year, but next year he MUST beat one of the two rivals.  If he doesn't, he's gone.  And I don't care of he's 10 & 2.

I'm not knocking what you said but it seems like this was the sentiment during this past off season. And he got a contract extension/pay raise before the season started! I'm not going to fret too much over 10-2 and beating UGA but that mess  of a scheme he runs is getting old and hard to watch.

I personally hope RL moves on only to succeed. I think he has definitely ben a scapegoat and if the next OC comes in and the same thing happens, it should become obvious.  I've defended Gus since he got here but I've had a belly full of his 5 plays this year with the occasional surprise sprinkled in every now and then.

I know others have said it but we have shined against lesser competition but fall short against good competition.

Oh yeah, Happy Thanksgiving.  War Eagle.
