He’s lucky he wasn’t in College Station where they chant at the pitcher. Carter Wright was getting a little mouthy to him though. Wouldn’t be surprised for him to have some pitches thrown to him on the far inside of the plate if he plays tonight.

Wright getting the start tonight 👀

Pretty well accepted that Butch and ‘Rock are still trying to figure out what they’ve got in terms of pitching and which guys can do what. Additionally, Butch has proven he understands what is important in terms of wins and losses. Pretty sure the end goal is still Omaha, but for now it is simply 15+ conference wins by Hoover. One word of caution for those that might live or die on every game…don’t jump off the roof if things go ugly this weekend. There will still be 27 more opportunities to get the aforementioned 15. Lots of time for some of these pitchers to learn what they need to be doing, but most will need to be able to fail some to figure  it out.

Just remember last year before conference play Auburn lost to MTSU in a weekend series. And they made it to Omaha. Not saying they will again but it doesn't mean they're gonna collapse this season

  3. Wonder how long Butch is gonna ride it out with Nate. I know his defense is great but the offense is beyond brutal rn. Plus him being a captain and being the 2nd highest recruit Butch brought to campus before Irish and Stanfield came along.

Good to see our offense bounce back and great outings from isbell and Horne.

if I remember correctly Nelson had an 0-2 count on the clean up hitter before he "brushed him."  It was a dad gum elbow pad brush which I don't think should be called a HBP.   For a HBP, there should be some pain!!!    But, more important, he was 1 strike away from getting out of the inning when he hit the elbow pad.  Next guy up was a close called ball with bases loaded so he had to throw a fastball, and the Indiana kid was all over it.  I hate is for Nelson.   Overall, we had 2 bad starts and 1 dominant start.   We saw some relievers who can pitch and some who struggled.   Nate looks lost at the plate despite his total remake -- opened up because of an eye dominance problem.   I think he went hitless for the series.   As good as he is defensively, we need a catcher who is at least a threat at the plate.  Ike may take over that role soon.   He is blistering the ball.  Ware looks to be the player we thought he could be.   As Butch says, the coaches make the first lineups, and the players make the rest.   We know more tonight than we did 2 nights ago.  WDE.

LaRue hit a few balls straight to guys I feel he got unlucky. I will say I think there's more pressure offensively this year on LaRue because Irish looks like he is an option they can put at C if LaRue still struggles and if 1B struggles offensively and/or Ware regresses, where as last year the options at C to replace him weren't that great either and he was the only below average offensive player in the lineup, which was fine.

    @warbiscuitplease feel free to move,

but i read somewhere that former AU recruit Gunnar Henderson was considered the #1 baseball prospect, or something to that effect.  wasn't sure what class he would have been in

He would be in the 2019 class where 2020 would be his first season. I think he was the highest ranked recruit Butch got to commit with the #12 ranking(but sadly not go to campus), so this year would be his draft year theoretically.

Baseball recruiting is a balancing act you can get a great class of guys who commit but never play for your school because they go pro. So if you go for top players you must know them well enough that you feel they will play at least one year for you.  You don't want to play it so safe that the players will commit the sign and play but are not the top recruit that can get you to Post season play.

Butch has done a very good job of this so far especially when you realize that other programs can sell Instate tuition for out of State players and have lottery type money we don't have.

I'm sure Butch has gone after the top prospects, but even with our recent success, we're not as popular for top recruits as a few other SEC schools or even Texas in recent memory for example. Butch is trying to get us up there and to his credit, we're doing better. And yeah, Auburn lost Slate Alford last year to MSU because they could offer him a scholarship and in-state waivers. And from personal experience with some MSU baseball players from Alabama when they were in high school, they weren't book/test smart but still got the in-state waivers.

Seems like a common theme for Butch last several years.  Players want to play for him.  That may be the hardest recruiting job in college baseball, retaining the recruiting class or current players from jumping to minor leagues.

Yeah we had very good recruiting classes coming into the 2018-2020 seasons and did well to keep most of the guys. Apparently Gunnar Henderson really wanted to come to Auburn, but I'd never blame him for taking the money. Besides Gunnar, most of the recruits that left either in JUCO/high school to the draft haven't really done well in the pros sadly.

I remember last year Butch got questioned if he wasn't getting top guys because he was playing it safe and not spending effort on top recruits, people forgot that Wade and Burns were top 50 draft prospects, and not to mention him bringing Bliss, Williams, LaRue, Barnett, Daniel and other guys here who were questions to go pro out of high school

What happened with Seaver Sheets?  Bad attitude, grades? There was a great article on why his father (Ben) loved AU and the coaching staff when he chose us. He was highly ranked by Perfect Game. Looking occasionally at his Twitter and Instagram posts this past season, he was all AU. I assumed he was redshirted.

He was. Probably it was more playing time that he foresaw he wouldn't see. I mean he wasn't gonna surpass Foster/Rambo/Moore, not to mention the other backups like Land and Farquhar. Maybe it's just exploring his options like Garrett Wade who is considering to return here. He hasn't played much this summer, batting .053/.308/.211 in 19 AB's with 6 walks and 7 K's,  1HR and hasn't played since June 7. He still hasn't announced a new transfer location.

Skipper gets drafted by the Rockies with the 326th pick.

Mullins goes to the Red Sox with 369th pick.

Rambusch goes to the Mariners with the 456th pick. (man, there are too many rounds in the MLB draft)

Brody Moore goes to the Cardinals with the 517th pick.

That's it for the draft. Auburn was tied for 4th with most overall picks.

No recruits got picked. We had a top 10 recruiting class coming into the draft and we will afterwards. If you thought 20 rounds was bad, 40 was a snooze fest.

Based on the draft which players on our current team that are eligible to come back do we think will come back?

Pierce and LaRue have got to be the highest likelihood to return right now.

Skipper/Howell/Moore/Sheehan are tossups to return but Skipper has the highest shot of going pro.
