The only thing there that I find puzzling is Burkhalter. I'd think he'd be in the top, 50 at least.

It's very rare to see relievers in the top 50, and even then those that were picked that high were converted to starters, or tried to, like Zack Burdi for example.

  2. I feel like he has quite a good bit of similarities to Keegan Thompson. Lower velo than some of his other rotation mates(Keegan was slower than Daniel and Mize, but Tommy John recovery may be why because he has good velo now), Gonzo was slower than Bright/Barnett, but Gonzo/Keegan had very good pitchability. Keegan did have a great curveball and Gonzo was more cutter/slider. I can see Gonzo going in the 3rd round where Keegan went last year if he had the same season as last year without injury, but I think he can improve and get drafted higher.

  3. Apparently Caldwell said Sheehan can return for a sixth year. I assume one of his ND years he got a medical redshirt for. If he returns I can see him being Bailey Horn-lite. Maybe not quite the velo/starter Horn could be but definitely a valuable pitcher who came off of partial Tommy John and I kinda see Isbell in the same light.

  4. Fuller announced he won't be returning and will be focused on his moving company Room2Room Movers. They've done NIL deals with a few athletes but none on the baseball team for what I assume to be avoidance of conflict of interest. So I imagine his company will get some baseball guys on NIL deals with his company soon.

He's a senior, age 23. He may be ready to get on with life, whether it involves baseball or not.

Yeah that's understandable. Judd wanted to move on with life too, although it was said it was going to be a lot of rehab for both his damaged shoulders if he wanted to return. I hope Howell gets a look.

Skipper's post looks like a good bye to Auburn whereas Brody's post is a testing of the waters for the MLB draft. Also Granzow apparently removed the mention of Auburn baseball on his Instagram bio so I think he's gone. Granzow was gonna try to do football and baseball, which would have made him a walk on for Auburn, but football didn't work out and since he's from Tennessee, paying that much for out of state tuition as a walk on without a significant role doesn't surprise me if he wants to leave.

Realistically who are we going to be able to get back off this team and who is expected to go in the draft?

Does Sonny have his Covid year left?

    Has Sheehan exhausted his eligibility?

Barnett, Sonny, and Bright are gonna be the top Auburn guys. Peirce, Howell, Rambo and Moore could go either way.

Sheehan, Brooks Carlson, Wyandt, Drabick and Farquhar ran out of eligiblity.

Sonny has a COVID year left. However it is in his best interest to go because MLB doesn't have fixed draft slot bonuses. Teams are notorious for giving 1-20K to seniors when the draft slot is in 200-600 K range. He can improve his draft position but it will cost Sonny a lot of money.

I think we do a great job with the elite pitching prospects we have. Bet Barnett and Bright, if they come back, take yet another jump. Mullins is very solid, and Wade just had fate against him here unfortunately. It's mostly the lineup where we've had more misses imo. But yep, now is the time for Larue and Hill to step up. If we somehow get Ike Irish on campus.... sorry Nate. And first base is about to be wide open. If Hill can't lock it down in the fall, not sure he'll ever win it, imo

I think we've hit on our hitting transfers than pitching transfers at least. I think 2021 just threw the newer guys like Bright, Barnett, Swilling, etc. into the fire given we had 10 pitcher injuries just in the first month of the season and they got roles they weren't quite prepared for given the 2020 season cancellation.

Wade and Mullins have me wondering how much did their high school/travel ball team over use him as Wade played CF in high school too.

We do but a lot of them have not developed. Larue, Hill, etc certainly look the part. Think Larue was considered an elite prospect. Because of some HS misses we are relying on the Juco and portal market heavily, which fortunately we have had success with. And I'm a huge Juco guy and called for influx after last year's supposed mental toughness issues because they are gritty and add toughness.

But as much as I love them, when 3/4 of your top hitters are from those areas you end up getting exposed by SECW schools who have landed and developed elite HS players with high MLB potential at a better clip. So the next step is to do better there. Cole Foster fits that bill, so we have to get more guys like him, and develop them. And again, not complaining, just speculating on how we take the next step to compete with OM, Arky, A&M, and yes, LSU and State too

Let me just explain that our 2019 recruiting class got screwed over in the 2020-2021 seasons with COVID, LaRue especially. LaRue was supposed to be Scheffler's back up in 2020 and the starter in 2021. Well COVID ruined that and with Ward, Williams and Woley back, LaRue basically sat on the bench for 2021 so he lost two years of playing time, especially important since catcher requires the most developmental time. Hill needs to improve his swing path but he had a decent freshman year. Mullins, Wade, Barnett were considered top prospects as well. Mullins has been injured every year since sophomore year of high school, so I don't know what to say there. Wade has developed the yips and arm injuries every year since he's been here. Barnett and Bright have been slow. We've gotten elite talent here but the circumstances of the last two years affected development. Foster had a great SEC season, I think we're back in the right steps of development with him but would like to see it with others too like Allsup.

Ah my apologies. I will remove it.  That’s what I get for trying to be involved in a sport I don’t follow.  😅

Hey it's a good thing we have fans confused about which year the Omaha pictures are taken from. It means we've gone there multiple times in a very short span.

For those of us not in the know for baseball recruiting how is Auburn doing?  I think I heard on one of the Auburn podcasts that Auburn is bringing in one of their best classes?  NIL helping any with the lack of scholly's that Auburn baseball traditionally has to deal with?  I see these teams like LSU with 10 MLB draft level commits.  Gotta believe thats a double edged sword even though with the NIL you could possibly make more in college than single or double A baseball.

D1 had us in the top 10, before the draft occurs. Be interesting to see what happens after the draft. I'd argue the 2017 class was our best recruiting class in the Butch era.https://www.perfectgame.org/rankings/recruiting/Rankings.aspx

Vandy has the issue of having talented guys like Isaiah Thomas, Ethan Smith, Carter Young and Christian Little leave because they could be a starter somewhere else but are stuck in a lesser role. Be interesting to see if LSU has that even if most go to the draft.

If we sent Howell there, that's awful coaching. If he went on his own, he should take a seat the rest of the game.

Butch tried this before last year. Unfortunately had the same result. I'm sure ever since Florida successfully executed the delayed double steal in game 3 of the 2018 Supers I'm sure it's been a thing in Butch's mind.

What about the other 2 doubles? Or him missing by a lot of being bailed out by LaRue behind the plate? Gonzalez has earned the trust because he hasn't ever just went 1 or less inning pitched before getting rocked hard. Bright has had 2 starts less than 1 inning in his last 4. Bright isn't pitching good.

Guy has a 4.50+ ERA coming in. Not sure if this is their best guy but that doesn't scream "shut down" stuff. We're just making him look like he's a top 10 draft pick.

To be fair Gonzalez didn’t make it out of the first inning against MSU last year in his start. But he proved he turned a corner within in the last year. Bright didn’t improve as much.
