  3. Some things about DJD's defensive scheme

Switches up 3 and 4 man fronts.

Usually with 3 down he will walk up an OLB. Loves versatility in his OLB and move them all over

Uses his nickles to blitz quite a bit much like RR.

Seems to prefer man more than zone as a whole, but will mix up coverages pretty well and run some good combos

edit- not sure what he will do here as a lot likely depends on personnel

I assume you mean Kiffin and not Kelly?

Freeze wanted to hire Kiffin last year. He waited until Kiffin was bounced from the playoffs to make a DC hire. Durkin has been sitting there the entire time.

I won't pretend to know anything for a fact like you are, but logic dictates Kiffin was the first choice.

Logic dictates that Chf wanted to interview him for sure. There is no evidence to say we got turned down or anything like that. from the jump people in the know have said kiffin and Durkin were the two leading candidates... why not do due diligence and wait to make sure your future DCs vision matches what you want.

absolutely not. Kelly would have been a settle. This is a great d.c. in recruiting and coaching. Freeze got his man.

i fully agree. Durkin is a very good hire imo. There is a reason Saban wanted him before he retired.

I’ve heard not to sleep on Malcolm Simmons…

I was thinking this in a conversation with an Alabama fan last night. why go where there's already potentially one of the best receiver classes of the year when you can go and be the stood of the class by miles?....

as for Malcolm Simmons, I agree, I don't think we should be sleeping on any of these guys

If anyone is as effective as you describe, they will probably not be around 4 years.

possibly....i didn't say he would make us forget year 1 or even year 2 or 3... but by the time it's said and find I think he could. I hope You're riding. all three of them are gone after 3 years

  8. a-Coleman ... only because Perry isn't an EE

b-Bryce Cain.... he is going to make us forget all about the RW saga. kid is a legit stud in the slot and I think he will have 4 years of production vs cam and Perry having 3 and likely hitting the league

  9. If he wasn't a fit culture wise or there was the stank of trouble in the air between coaches or players then probably best he is gone. I hated the 4th and 31, but I will not judge his tenure here based on that one play. He coached above his roster talent most of the year and without him we likely have at least 2 more losses.  I think we need to get it right this time though...and I believe we will. WDE

    🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I knew I forgot someone!!!   You’re right!  I like DJ a lot!

DJ is a more athletic Deshaun Davis IMO. He is very physical. Built for that MLB spot. A head hunter. Has great eyes. HE is faster than DD but he is very similar IMO. Also, an underrated, locker room kid that you want on your team. He will be a starter for us one day.

What the heck happen here? Sign this guy. Perfect safety option.

IIRC (lots of happenings the past week so I could be way off lol) there was some chatter about him wanting to play S but we wanted him as a CB? Or Vice Versa....Just get him here! Work out the deets later. Too good a talent to let that get in the way IMO

Lacey and Dubose should race to be the next to flip!

This fixing to be a big time AU pipeline. I can't remember the last commit we had from Saraland before this year? Cordell Flott who ended up at LSU maybe?  IIRC they haven't been around that long? Maybe 10-12 years?  They seem to be a perennial PH now some might say. I can dig the pipeline for sure

Guys and Gals....brace yourselves! AU Football is about to get real interesting. Coach Freeze is building  a monster. The 24 class is loaded at WR and LB and a good S class. The 25 class is going to be a beast on the DL and OL.

I knew if we hired HCBHF this is what he would do...but he has even exceeded my expectations. We must be patient. He is doing this the right way. I think this year we will see major improvement, but still probably an 8 win team...but 25 we will be a threat and 26 will be our year. Coach Freeze knows he has to make noise in 25 and 26 and his plan is clear as day. WDE what a time to be an AU fan!

Edit- Just look at First team All State for 7A and 6A. Lot of Auburn signees and commits!!!  Some other names on the list were Towns McGaugh sp? , Malcom Simmons, D. Riddick, Kaleb Harris.

  13. Now that the ink has dried (barring a few future portal additions and one RW :)) with what we have on roster now....curious to know everyone's thoughts on the class. With that said...here are the questions I have for you all and how I feel about them.

    1. - How many of this class find their way into the 2 deep in year 1 (as it sits now...things are fluid w portal of course) and how many are starters year one?

I think Cam Coleman starts day 1. I would say Perry as well but not being EE will likely hold him back a LITTLE. I say he starts by mid season at the latest. As far as two deep....I think 10 of these guys are in the 2 deep by game 4.

    2. Who is your prize of the class on both sides- For me...it's Cam Coleman on Offense, and Riddick on defense. Many people may pick Perry over Cam, but IDK I am a firm believe in CC. I think both will shine. I will say this....I feel sorry for opposing DCs trying to plan on how to defend The White Walkers (tm) in 2-3 years. There is no right answer. Can't double them all!

    3. Most underrated recruit on both sides of the ball- Bryce Cain and DJ Barber.

    4. Recruit who we are all shocked in 3-4 years that their career at AU went the way it did? Could be a good thing or bad thing.

That is all....dispute, debate...whatever. I am just excited about this class and wanted to chat some. BTW- Best AU class in modern Crootin service era in terms of average rating per player. BEST AU CLASS EVER. Let that sink in...with one year to build it....I can't wait for the 25 and 26 classes. HCBHF doing big thangz yall.

Mods if this should be in the recruiting session by all means.

  14. Just came here to say......This is the best class AU has had in the modern recruiting era. 247 would only allow me to view team results back to the 2010 class....but this one sits atop in the per average player rating and it isn't even close. There were a couple of Gus classes that we just over 91. but still over half a point away from this one.

    If I remember correctly….😬

Asante is a beast!   Keyes is pretty good.   Riley is a decent backup.   Woodyard has been MIA so far.  He came in with a good bit of potential, but we haven’t seen it yet.
Then our incoming FR - Riddick will be an absolute weapon!!!   Probably will get a good bit of playing time next year!   Philips is also one with a ton of potential.  I like those guys a lot!!!

Transfer - Mausi was a productive LB for Duke, so we expect him to come in and contribute day 1.

So, including the incoming guys, I’d say we’ll have a solid 3 deep.

    hopefully I’m not forgetting anyone.

LB room is/will be one of the deepest rooms on the roster next season.

PS. Don't sleep on DJ Barber. This guy will be a star at AU when said and done. Most underrated player in the class on D with maybe the exception of Malik Blockton ( Bryce Cain on O)

Best part is they will all get significant playing time and Cam and possibly even Perry may start by year’s end.

Not just because of the portal but to also show future prospects you can play early at Auburn and contribute.

Cam will start day 1. I would say Perry would too, but since he's not going to be here till summer I think he'll take him a little bit more time to acclimate possibly. but Cam is day one starter in my opinion and buy game five both of them will be

  17. I don't know that there's a better receiver class or linebacker class in the country. I know Hugh said that but I really believe it as well... yeah we got the two big guys Perry and Cam but Bryce and Malcolm are two of the the most slept on guys in the class I think just because of Perry and Cam
