    Me too.  I have no idea about the Air situation.   Just seems odd.

    Arrogant and useless are too kind.   Some folks at AU did him wrong too.  But he went out of his way to burn this place down on his way out.   In the pre-portal era it would’ve taken us several years to get back to competitive after what he did.

    Amen to this!  IMHO AU would be well served to take as much advantage of the portal in its present form as we can. I just think there are going to be future adjustments to the system that are going to alter the dynamics that will restrict the player movement that currently exists. The importance of high school recruitment cannot be understated going forward.  WDE

  2. Anyone with any knowledge on DeMario Tolan (LB from LSU). Freshman that played in 12 games last year. 4* out of high school. Army All-American. Offers out of high school from LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, Florida State. Apparently entered the portal.  WDE

    I was honestly surprised not seeing ZP move down like Herring did.  I think his game translates to the old school Strong safety, Darren Woodson/LeRoy Butler type.  I'd like to use him as the star in a 4-2-5.  Ideal hybrid.

    @bigbird How is the recruiting affected between a 4-3-4 straightup  vs  a 4-2-5 hybrid? Also, do we currently have personnel that fit one better than the other?  WDE

    No they are not. Plus, anything close to these numbers is not sustainable. The first-time money will dry up in a hurry. I don't know what the solution is, but the current setup is a total mess. The NCAA, Congress, SOMEBODY is going to have to step up and make some rules that provide a level playing field and also satisfy the rulings of the courts.

    I hope you are correct. However, considering the Supreme Court ruling I can't imagine how a reining in would work. As my sainted grandmother would say on her wildest day, "It's a mell of a hess".

    All SCOTUS ruled on was NIL.  The portal is an entirely different ballgame.

    They could easily go back to pre Covid rules where if you transfer, you have to sit a year.   That would stop a lot of this free agency nonsense.

    It's going to be very interesting to see how this developes, but as Jerry Clower used to say "Just shoot up here amongst us. One of us has got to have some relief".  WDE  Happy Holidays

    Man. That’s just crazy. Are there really some of y’all out there that think this is good for college football?

    Absolutely not. I also think that there is going to be a short window of opportunity to turn our program around using the portal. In the not too distant future the powers that be are going to attempt to rein in some of the insanity (for lack of a better word) that currently exists.  JMO  WDE

  7. I would dearly love to see Auburn come out sporting the old shoulder pads, thigh pads, knee pads, etc...  What an intimidation ploy that would be when they lined up against their opponents. I loved the days when players looked bigger, badder and unworldly. Just go back and look at the players in those old clips above.  WDE  Happy Holidays

  8. JMHO.  I think Freeze really, really wanted this job. I believe he wanted this job a few years ago. If things go as he has envisioned them going, he will not be tempted by other offers down the road.

    PS: Just poured myself a cold one in hopes that he succeeds and I am correct.  WDE and Happy Holidays to all.

    This is just my thoughts.

    If it is ZA, he runs a 3-3-5. If set like his MSU staff,  we would need 1 DL, 1 LB, and 3 secondary coaches.

    Garrett = DL

    CRob = LB

    Arnett = DC/S

    Zac = S

    McGriff = CB

    That'd be a hell of a defensive staff and 4/5 are set.

    Love this input Bird. When you have time could you expand on what the coaching personnel allocations would look like using other base defenses? Also, how are coaching assignments setup to cover multiple defensive allignments (i.e. in the example above, which coach would cover what in a 4-3 look)?  WDE

  10. Just read where coachs Simmons & Aigamaua did an inhome visit with OL Weden yesterday. Does anyone know the current status of coach Simmons? Was not really aware that he was still on the staff and recruiting. TIA  WDE

    grain off salt.... I heard Colorado was having a hard time coming up with the money they are contracting out.

    Maybe they should contact Robert Redford.   WDE

    Everything has to fall into place for teams as depleted as we are to make a huge jump in wins in a coach's first year.

    so to me....

    First year is as ALWAYS about seeing improvement.   (game to game and year by year)    I want to see better fundamentals and techniques across the board.   Better completion % by the QB.  Fewer  fumbles/INTs,  better blocking fundamentals,  better coaching strategies,  fewer penalties esp.  stupid ones like:  illegal procedure, false starts,  off sides at important times.   I wanna see  A good jump in recruiting rankings by getting players in positions that we are in need.

    A bunch more wins would be nice,  but I would be satisfied with 7-5 as long as I see improvement.   Chances are,  with the improvements,  the Wins will come.   BUT,  for a fist year, the wins are not as important to me as obvious improvements.

    Now, in  year two I want more wins.  By year 3,  a  coach should have all his style players in his system and we will know what we have for a coach.

    If I may add another item to your list of things to look for next year:  Improvement in "in-game & half time adjustments". We have sucked at this for several years now. The only half time improvements of note were the last 4 games of this year thanks to CCW & staff.  WDE

    According to JGT on Rivals, Kelly and TWill were our top 2 at DC (or at least the ones that he Knows were interviewed for the job). Either we found someone else - which has not been announced for some reason - or we are not winning these coaching battles.

    Let us see who he names in the next two days. If we do not have a DC coach by Friday, then we are in trouble. we have OVs this weekend.

    Maybe they were not impressive in the interview? I have interviewed for jobs for which I was not hired.  WDE

    A player of Judkins talent level always make a coach look great. But unlike our backs, he rarely got hit in the backfield and often had a head of steam prior to initial defender contact. I think that is a feather in the cap of the online coach.

    Or (as in our case), the lack of Jimmy's & Joe's.  WDE

    Initially typed this.  Didn't realize he coached DL for Ole Miss.  LBs weren't good (talent/depth and probably coaching too).  He was heralded as a good recruiter for the ATL area....not sure anything came from that but hard to criticize in this environment.

    Just an observation:  If you look at the list provided by Mac, there are only 2 of listed recruits from the state of Georgia. Not saying he is not a good/great recruiter, but there is not much there to indicate his prowess in the ATL area.   WDE

  16. What are the official rules for in-home recuriting? I know it is on-field assisstant coaches, but is that for coaches that are on payroll or a coach that has accepted a position but not signed on the dotted line yet (or both)? etc....  Other administrative personnel (I think) can make text and phone contact with recruits but not visit (I could be wrong here too). Just don't know if there are exceptions for coaching turnover situations.  TIA for any enlightenment.  WDE
