Not a great weekend for the team to finish third in a weak field. Dominic Bozzelli did not play well for being your #1 player. It happens

The No. 2 Auburn men’s golf team finished in third place at the University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. With the third place finish, the Tigers have now placed in the top-five in every tournament this season.

The Tigers shot 280-291-284--855 (-9) in the two-day tournament falling to No. 12 UNLV (-20) and Texas Tech (-13). Saint Mary’s finished in fourth place at (-3) while SMU and No. 13 Texas A&M (-2) finished tied for fifth.

Junior Blayne Barber notched his third-straight top-five finish after tying for fifth at 5-under. Barber, who was named a Ben Hogan Award Watchlist, carded a 1-under 71 in the third round.

Niclas Carlsson finished tied for eighth place after shooting a 2-over 74 in the final round of play, for his second-straight top-10 finish of the season. Michael Hebert jumped 24 spots in the final round after carding a 3-under 69.

Freshman Michael Johnson placed tied for 35th after an even par 72, while Dominic Bozzelli jumped up to 88th place after shooting even in the final round.

The Tigers will defend their title at the Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga., on March 16-18.
