Auburn landed a coveted in-state commitment on Friday, as four-star Oxford running back Racean "Roc" Thomas announced via Twitter that he's chosen the Tigers.

Thomas has not returned calls seeking comment, but Oxford High athletic director Larry Davidson confirmed that he had committed to the Tigers.

Thomas (5-11, 200), who ran for more than 1,700 yards as a junior in 2012, said two months ago that Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Florida State were his favorites, but he was thought all along to be an in-state battle between the Tigers and Tide.

Thomas, who gives very few media interviews, visited Auburn several times this spring and told reporters at the IMG 7v7 national championships in Bradenton, Fla., in June that a visit during Big Cat Weekend made a strong impression on him.

"It's a good place," he said. "They've got a great program. They've got a great tradition, great coaches."

A four-star prospect according to 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN and a five-star according to Scout.com, which ranks him as the No. 3 running back in the nation, Thomas becomes Auburn's 14th commitment in the 2014 class and the second running back, joining Prattville's Kamryn Pettway.
