And in the era of dead bats and balls...if a pitcher knows he only has to pitch one inning there is no reason to hold anything back. IMO there is enough margin for error that a pitcher should be able to get out of an inning without giving up a run since it will be the first time most batters have seen his "stuff". ....gotta throw strikes however.
