On the hat it said 14-0 on it. I asked him if it was a rejected hat because of the record. He said no, and they went 14-0 that year. I thought teams only played 11 regular season games, 1 conference championship, and possibly a NC game. Au was 13-0 in 04. Can someone explain why they played 14 games that year? AUwent 3,778 Posted July 3, 2016 Share Posted July 3, 2016 They had kickoff classics back then that were an extra game, unlike the Cowboys Classic and Chick-Fil-A Classic today. Additionally, there were only supposed to be 12 games on seasons when Labor Day Saturday is in August (2002, 2003, 2008, 2013, 2014). That's why we played 13 games in both 2003 and 4, despite making the SECC in 2004. Starting with 2006, I'm guessing the extra money was too much to turn down. I believe it was played a week prior to the "opening week" for the rest of the country.
