I realize the numbers don't always explain the differences but they do highlight them. The FIRST thing that I noticed is that we didn't run the ball nearly as effectively as we did last year. We miss Caddy and Ronnie.... no surprise there. We just need to find the right combination there before we hit LSU. The SECOND thing that I noticed is that we passed the ball more effectively than last year even though we didn't run it as well. A pleasant surprise! One less completion in four fewer attempts but netting 20 more yards. On defense, three fewer first downs, same rushing yardage on nine more attempts, 64 fewer passing yards on 15 fewer attempts. Overall 3.5 yards per play versus 4.2 yards per play last year. AUTrey 0 Posted September 13, 2005 Share Posted September 13, 2005 The one thing that you are forgetting is that last year the starters barely saw the field in the 4th Quarter (if they were still in that late, I don't remember for sure), and I think that would account for some of the differences on defense. All of MSU's points last year came against the 2nd and 3rd string defense, and I think a drummer or two from the band may have gotten on the field. I am surprised by the passing.
