The Hilltoppers are the number one ranked team in DI-AA coming off a tough 23-21 win over archrival Eastern Kentucky. They have a good defense and a crisp, effective offense. Auburn is coming off a 63-3 blowout of Ball State and even though this might be a game for a few quarters, will look to tune up for next week's game against South Carolina. Why Western Kentucky might win: WKU is third in DI-AA in run defense allowing a mere 62 rushing yards so far, while averaging 322 rushing yards per game. In other words, if Auburn isn't focused, the Hilltoppers have the make up to control the tempo of the game and keep the Tiger offense off the field. Auburn might give WKU a few breaks with turnovers; WKU has forced six so far, while the Tigers have lost six. Why Auburn might win: Facing Auburn's run defense is a big tougher than dealing with West Virginia Tech's. Auburn stuffed the Ball State and Mississippi State running games over the last two weeks, and it isn't going to allow the Hilltoppers to get on a roll. The WKU pass defense is suspect and doesn't have the corners to deal with the Auburn receivers. Who to watch: Was the win over Ball State the breakout game for the running backs? Kenny Irons was terrific rushing fro 147 yards and two touchdowns after gaining a mere 34 yards in the first two games. Brad Lester added 91 yards and two scores, and Tre Smith ran for 52 yards and a touchdown. The more effective they continue to be, the faster QB Brandon Cox will be able to develop since he won't have to shoulder the offensive load. What will happen: Auburn will have a tougher time this week than it had with Ball State. CFN Prediction: Auburn 48 ... Western Kentucky 13 ...
