Our latest Hazardous Weather Outlook from the National Weather Service office in Birmingham, AL. We could be in for a bad Saturday in central AL. It all depends on the track of Rita. I am hoping we will be far enough east to be out of serious trouble. Have to wait and see. If you are coming this way tomorrow morning be careful driving and watch out for the outer rain bands!!

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR THE COUNTIES SERVED BY THE

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN BIRMINGHAM.

.DAY ONE...(THIS AFTEROON AND TONIGHT).

NO HAZARDOUS WEATHER IS EXPECTED.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...(SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY).

AS HURRICANE RITA MOVES ONTO THE UPPER TEXAS COAST AND SOUTHWEST

LOUISIANA COAST...SOME OUTER RAIN-BANDS COULD REACH CENTRAL ALABAMA

BY EARLY SATURDAY AND REMAIN OVER THE AREA THROUGH SUNDAY.

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IF ANY STRONG RAIN-BANDS DEVELOP THEY COULD

PRODUCE ISOLATED TORNADOES AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS CENTRAL

ALABAMA ON SATURDAY. AT THIS TIME FLOODING IS NOT A CONCERN BASED

ON THE RECENT DRY CONDITIONS.

ANY EASTWARD SHIFT IN THE PROJECTED LANDFALL OF RITA COULD

INCREASE THE THREAT TO CENTRAL ALABAMA.

STAY TUNED FOR NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECASTS AND UPDATES THROUGH

NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND COMMERCIAL SOURCES FOR THE LATEST

INFORMATION CONCERNING HURRICANE RITA.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

ACTIVATION OF STORM SPOTTERS AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL

IS NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME. HOWEVER...IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU

MONITOR THE LATEST INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS WEATHER SITUATION.

I sure hope that is all it will be. I sure don't want to be at our EOC all afternoon with my finger on the button to sound the sirens. I quickly grow frustrated (putting it lightly) over the phone calls asking why the tornado sirens are going off.... I think there are some bama homers and corndogs living in Lee County!!! :big::poke:

Just remember, the Forecast I mentioned is coming from one of the many weather "guessers". Take it for what it is worth. (They are about as reliable as brodie's knees.) :D

:cheer: Hooray!!!

No doubt about bc's knees...But since my time working for EMA, I have more respect for the job the guys and gals with the National Weather Service do. We rely on them heavily when it comes to severe weather and stay in contact them constantly.

The best way to know where a hurricane is going to hit is to find out where Jim Cantore is setting up!!! ;) That dude is nutz!!! I would love to be down there with him though. :big:
