USF Quarterback Named to Maxwell Award Watch List

TAMPA, FLA. (June 25, 2007) USF sophomore quarterback Matt Grothe, the 2006 Big East Rookie of the Year, has become the first USF player to be named to the Maxwell Award Watch List. The Lakeland, Fla. native is one of 65 players on the list for the award that is given to the most outstanding college football player as selected by the Maxwell Football Club.

Grothe was among the naton’s leaders in total offense in 2006, passing for 2,576 yards and running for 622 more as a freshman. He threw 15 touchdown passes and added nine on the ground.

The Maxwell Award has been presented to the outstanding collegiate football player in America since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell. Brady Quinn of the University of Notre Dame was the recipient of the 70th Maxwell Award for his outstanding performance in 2006.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced in early November and three finalists will be announced November 26th. The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 6, 2007. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah’s Entertainment Atlantic City in March 2008.

If they don't keep a big FB at home to block, none of that will matter.

Glenn Dorsey has a pair of Quentin Groves pajamas. Don't EVER compare Dorsey to that animal...
