Tiger Al 0
The political system of the Islamic Republic is based on the 1979 Constitution. The system comprises several intricately connected governing bodies. The Supreme Leader of Iran is responsible for delineation and supervision of the general policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran.[69] The Supreme Leader is Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, controls the military intelligence and security operations; and has sole power to declare war or peace.[69] The heads of the judiciary, state radio and television networks, the commanders of the police and military forces and six of the twelve members of the Council of Guardians are appointed by the Supreme Leader.[69] The Assembly of Experts elects and dismisses the Supreme Leader on the basis of qualifications and popular esteem.[70] The Assembly of Experts is responsible for supervising the Supreme Leader in the performance of legal duties. After the Supreme Leader, the Constitution defines the President of Iran as the highest state authority.[69][71] The President is elected by universal suffrage for a term of four years and can only be re-elected for one term.[71] Presidential candidates must be approved by the Council of Guardians prior to running in order to ensure their allegiance to the ideals of the Islamic revolution.[72] The President is responsible for the implementation of the Constitution and for the exercise of executive powers, except for matters directly related to the Supreme Leader, who has the final say in all matters.[69] The President appoints and supervises the Council of Ministers, coordinates government decisions, and selects government policies to be placed before the legislature.[73] Eight Vice-Presidents serve under the President, as well as a cabinet of twenty two ministers, who must all be approved by the legislature.[74] Unlike many other states, the executive branch in Iran does not control the armed forces. Although the President appoints the Ministers of Intelligence and Defense, it is customary for the President to obtain explicit approval from the Supreme Leader for these two ministers before presenting them to the legislature for a vote of confidence. Iran's current president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was elected in a run-off poll in the 2005 presidential elections. His term expires in 2009.[75] LINK
AU Mom 0
Okay, Senator Obama has said that he visited all 57 lower states and Senator Clinton says ... well, that would take the rest of the day. Short version, they all make mistakes. Move along, there is nothing to see here.

Short version, they all make mistakes. Move along, there is nothing to see here. I don't see how they are comparable. Obama hasn't repeatedly said that there are 57 states over and over. The real problem is that McCain actually knows who the actual Iranian leader is. He's hoping the American people don't.
Tiger Al 0
Okay, Senator Obama has said that he visited all 57 lower states and Senator Clinton says ... well, that would take the rest of the day. Short version, they all make mistakes. Move along, there is nothing to see here. When he said it, he had, in reality, visited 47 states. After who knows how many speeches that day/week/month, he probably didn't even realize what he'd said. I'm sure that had you been there and pointed out that the US only has 50 states, because he'd have known he made a mistake, he would've agreed. McCain, however, got quite curt with the questioner. McCain didn't think he made a mistake. In fact, he insisted the questioner was mistaken.

AU Mom 0
Texas Tiger, thanks for the help but I wrote it correctly the first time. I see quite clearly and I don't see anyone who I think is qualified to be President anywhere in the race, on the horizon, or, even, in the States. I am not a Senator McCain fan  at all. I admire his service and his fortitude in Vietnam but I don't think his politics offer much for what I am looking for. The more I hear Senator Obama speak, the less I like his views. Senator Clinton is too flawed to consider. I guess I thought we could actually have a dialogue. You know, that mythical exchange of ideas without ad hominem attacks. Since that does not seem to be a possibility, I'll wander back over to the football forums.

Well, you can play the martyr role if you wish, but condescendingly dismissive statements like this: Move along, there is nothing to see here. are hardly indicative of someone seeking dialogue. Best wishes to you and War Eagle.
