There is always some natural attrition and getting down to the 85 max is usually not a problem.  Au can bring 25 new players in every year, including 2012.  The only caveat, used this year when we brought 30 new players in, is if you don't bring a full 25 in the previous years rcruiting class, then you can count new recruits who enroll early back to the previous year.  Thus, this past January we brought in five new guys (Mosely, Gayden, Cam, Curry and 1 other) that counted back towards last year's class and then enrolled 25 more this fall.  This year we can not count any back, so we can have 25 new players total.  Hope that confuses you.

Yep, can't believe I forgot that one.  Too lazy to look it up, but should have known off the top of my head.  Thanks for the assist.

If the current 2011 crowd stands at 82, plus additional 8-10 added to 2011 signing list , how is AU gonna make the 85-cap?? Also how many would AU be able to bring in for 2012??

Also, using the list above, there is only room for 2 more recruits for the 2011 class.  This list has 23 current commits/recruits.  Thus, 85 should not be an issue if the list is accurate.

Are they planning to work Benton into the WR rotation or do they intend to redshirt him? I almost think it would be better if they gave him a RS this year with the way everything has turned out.

He's played this year.  He can't redshirt.

Thanks for working on the list for next year!

As far as I can find, there are 84 scholly players now.

21 schollys are listed as Seniors which means we should have 63 carry-overs for next year.

4 current schollys who are not seniors have been left off the list above:

Derek Winter

Jamar Travis

Wade Christopher

Josh Harris

Added to the 59 above, that brings the total to 63 carry-overs, and leaves only 22 open schollys.

Looks like a tight squeeze to bring in 25 new schollys!!!    :dunno:

:timeout:

Where to from here?

Again, people worry about this every year and every year natural attrition seems to take care of this.  With only 3 "extra" players, if we bring in 25, I don't anticipate any problems.

Maybe because I made a "D" in STATISTICS @ AU (prettyist "D" ever), but with AU only having around 12 SR in 2011, would it not appear that the 2012 Class will have to be very small??

If we bring a full calss in this year, and it looks like we will, it is unlikely that there will be enough attrition to bring in 25 in 2012, but you never know.  With injuries, people quitting or transferring due to playing time, etc., it is hard to predict how many scholarships will be available in 2012.

You have to like the guessing game going on here.  There are too many variables (most already mentioned) to make an educated guess.  No matter what, we seem to have room many years to even add schollys to walk-ons (the un-accounted for players on most people's lists).

Usually if there are any scholly's left in the fall after everyone is enrolled, seniors walk-ons will be rewarded a scholarship for their hard work.  These left over scholly's are usually only given to seniors so the scholly becomes available again the next year without having to take it back from a walk on.  There are instances (rare) where a walk on earns a scholly before his senior year due to performance.
