AUSportTalk 4
AUBURN - Auburn women’s golf head coach Kim Evans announced the signing of three Casey Kennedy, Carlie Yadloczky and Haley Wilson to National Letters of Intent on Monday. Kennedy and Yadloczky will join the Tigers at the beginning of the 2009-10 season while Wilson is slated to join the AU squad for the upcoming spring season. Kennedy, a native of Venice, Fla., comes to Auburn after an impressive junior and high school career. She has 11 top-10 finishes in American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events, including two wins and a top-25 finish at the prestigious 2008 McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls National Championship. Her AJGA victories came at the 2008 Woodward Video Junior at the Greenbrier and the 2007 AJGA Rhode Island Invitational. Though Kennedy was home schooled, she was able to compete individually at the Florida State High School Championship, winning the event as a junior and finishing in a tie for third as a senior. "Casey will bring a lot of experience to our team,†said Evans. “She has played a tough junior golf schedule and has had quite a bit of success." Part of that experience came this past August as Kennedy qualified for and competed in the 2008 U.S. Women’s Amateur at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. Yadloczky, a native of Casselberry, Fla., comes to Auburn fresh off a team high school state championship. She played on the Lake Howell High School team that won the Florida High School State Championship last month at the Ridgewood Lakes Golf & Country Club in Davenport, Fla. The state title marked the third in the past four years for the Lake Howell team. Individually, Yadloczky finished in a tie for third at the state championships with Kennedy, her future teammate. "Carlie will bring a lot of game to Auburn,†said Evans. “She has the ability to go low and we are looking forward to her immediate impact next fall." Yadloczky also has quite a bit of national junior golf experience, posting five career top-10 finishes in AJGA events. Among those is a tie for third last summer at the Heritage Junior Championship. On the Florida Junior Tour, she has 13 top-10 finishes and two victories at the 2007 Disney and MetroWest Championships. She also finished runner-up at the University of Florida and Rio Pinar Tournaments. Rounding out the signing class is Wilson, a native of nearby Fort Mitchell, Ala., and the top-ranked prospect in the state of Alabama. Wilson will graduate from Central High School early and begin competing for Auburn in the Spring, 2009 season. Wilson competed in her first AJGA event last spring, finishing in a tie for 10th at the Mizuno Junior at Innisbrook. She also competed in the 2008 U.S. Women's Amateur at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore. She is the reigning Alabama Junior Champion and High School State Champion. "Haley is one of the best junior golfers to come out of Alabama,†said Evans. “She is the 2008 Women's Alabama Golf Association State Junior Champion and qualified for the USGA Junior Girls and the USGA Women's Amateur this past summer. We look forward to adding Haley to our roster this Spring." Wilson was the overall champion at the 2008 Southeastern Junior Golf Tour Championship at Highland Oaks Golf Club in Dothan, Ala. She also has two other SJGT victories to her credit. The Auburn women’s golf team finished the fall season ranked 11th in the Golf World/NGCA Top-25 Coaches’ Poll. The Tigers return to action Feb. 16-17, at the Central District Invitational at the River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Fla.
