Hoke said Chris Kiffin and Zach Arnett are the two prime candidates
I would think either would be upgrades. Roberts seems to be a pretty good DC but he sure made some flawed decisions this season.

CK's defenses at FSU were ranked #9, #45, #29, #49 He's a good DC. And he's an excellent recruiter.
That's not a good average, it's a decent one. We need a great DC.

My fear is the lack of line play and QB talent.
The online is and has always been the starting point for offense. Get a great line and a decent QB can look great.
Likewise a mediocre OL can make a good QB look bad (see Bo Nix as example 1).
If Freeze thinks he has the OL pieces he needs (skeptical) then we could probably roll with who we have at QB. If not it makes more sense to NIL the line up instead of adding one more stud WR.

He was hired to be head ball coach. Head ball coaches hire elite staffs to manage elite programs (see the teams in the playoffs and those that were nearly in the playoffs). Like his predecessors, he was a poor choice as he is not a program builder. He's already demonstrated poor abilities at hiring assistants. Firing your OC after year 1 is telegraphing trouble. If you can't attract elite assistants, align with them on their role and job, and then let them execute under supervision, you have no business in the job.
The notion that the solution to our offensive woes is to have HF call plays is absurd. He's already admitted to being unable to manage all dimensions of the programand you want to add play calling to his plate. A head coach has to manage the program: 1) game planning and game management; 2) roster, recruiting, Transfer portal and NIL 3), building, managing and developing a staff of elite assistants; and lastly 4) manage the donors and administration.
I'll say it again, "if you're doing someone else's job, you're not doing yours".
Kiffin managed to call plays so maybe Freeze should focus on that and hire recruiters for gaining talent.

Auburn has bodies in the RB room but I wouldn’t call it loaded. Judkins is better than all those guys in our RB room and our RB’s aren’t bad either, he’s just better
I'm not sure about that., Alston and Cobb have looked pretty good, especially if Judkins is a locker room problem.

I don't trust Montgomery's playcalling or game-planning and from what Hugh has said, he doesn't seem to trust him either. That's why Montgomery still being here makes no sense.
The guy certainly didn't get it done this season and showed nothing to indicate he's competent. This alone gives me pause about Freeze, he's shown little that he can manage AU football outside of recruiting.

He is a better passer that RA but has not faced SEC level defenses or a schedule like ours
He also doesn't have sec teammates surrounding him.

Regarding coaching changes, I'm not sure why Montgomery was retained. The offense was putrid beyond the quality of our players. The defense was better, and maybe on par with our talent level, but some of the defensive in-game decisions were questionable to say the least. I've seen enough from the OC to say he doesn't have what it takes.

And some act like we’re playing with Sunbelt level talent at every position. Neither are true and Freeze underachieved his first season, to put it kindly. He’s got two more to produce results on the field. I hope he puts more effort into that side of things going forward.
Not only did he underachieve, he made bafflingly elementary missteps along the way. From seriously flawed gameplans (or lack of), limited halftime adjustments (or none), poor player execution (or lack of), to the moronic QB carousel. Com'on man, I'm no coach, just a fan, and even I can see what half@ss product he's putting out there. That changes next year where we at least look like we know what we're doing or I'll firmly be on the "next" program.

This was a bad effort. But I’m not going to draw any major conclusions from this game. It didn’t enhance my confidence in freeze, but it really didn’t hurt it either. I’d bet the coaches were so focused on recruiting that they didn’t put a lot of energy into this game. If so, I’m fine with that. This season is a wash. I’d rather build momentum for the future than worry about a meaningless bowl game in a throw away season. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m filing this one away, and just looking to see some strides forward next season.
The way forward is made of making progress. We showed the opposite of progress today. Unprepared, undisciplined, and unfocused. Do that again next year and the next coach will appreciate the fine effort recruiting.

We haven’t had much to lose. That will change with top ten classes. All I’m saying is that Freeze will not be able to ignore the portal in favor of a traditional long term approach because both are now very much connected. Our hotshot receiver recruits will all come with a higher price tag next season, for example.
With higher price tags comes higher productivity. If they put in the work it will be worth it.

I like the idea of Arnett as DC because I believe in his X & O abilities. A solid gameday coach is the anchor and give him a team of stud recruiters with good coaching ability to stock the cupboard. Likewise the offensive side of the ball but Freeze can call his own plays and put the icing on recruiting. I would like to have a highly regarded OL coach to help draw recruits also.
