  1. Ick.  I realize we have become a bit spoiled the last couple of years, but losing v Thuga in basketball is just embarrassing -- home or away.  How about a 5 am suicide drill practice until everyone yacks?  Toughen up, get every rebound, something.

Largely because nepotism stopped Clint Myers from correcting the behavior of his son. I suppose it was legal for the the younger Myers to sleep with college age girls although frowned upon if they are on the team he coaches. My point was/is that Clint had to have known what was going on and neglected to act based solely on the person causing the conflict being his son. Nepotism laws exist for a reason. Had it been an employee without the father/son dynamic, I feel Clint would have stopped it as soon as he found out.

The correlation is that if his daughter is his assistant and does something she shouldn't, Freeze would have a conflict of interest based solely on their relationship. Likewise, his daughter would be less inclined to report her father of wayward activity. I do not think his daughter is like Corey Myers in any way. I actually support Freeze's daughter being his assistant because to me it means Freeze will be less likely to do something wayward of his wife. Added insurance if you will. A win for his family/himself and a win for Auburn. I am just presenting another side and answering the questions(that I quoted) asked with examples of it going bad.

Excellent post.  Just because the Pearl arrangement has worked (thus far) does not mean it is good policy.

  3. Amen. My last game as a senior too. Coughed and sneezed out paper shaker for days. Best game I ever saw I person. Better than Kick 6. Better than the LSU interception game. Better than beating Spurriers ass. Better than the first 59 minutes of the earthquake game. Better than Cam back. Better than prayer at Jordan Hare. Even better than the natty in Glendale. The best.

  4. Last night a buddy of mine (who has good connections with a few high profile boosters) told me that a clause or two were added to the Lane contract after discussions were well under way that added VERY high buyouts should Lane leave for either the NFL or Turdghanistan. Said it really pissed him off. Anyone hear anything similar?

I know he has 33 million and makes $350,000 annually. I know he isn’t financially hurting. Just stop, dude. Take the multiple Ls and move on.

If you think he has $33 million from that contract, you are an idiot.  After taxes and agent fees, he was lucky to get half that.

You acted like you should not work or support for someone you think is scum. Yet you did so. The standard applies to you the same as everybody else. Wait..you have another standard by yourself for your family?

I left -- not that day or the next, but my foot was already out of the door.

With his daughter around all the time,  it will really put a damper on any temptations.   She can handle the job, but  I think she is there to keep an eye on him.

That would assume that said daughter (who is dependent on the father for income), would a) tell the father what to do, or b) turn him in if he did something wrong.  Both big assumptions.

The carry-over of his daughter as his assistant is obviously not against any rules/hiring conditions at Auburn or it would not be allowed. I don’t see that as a negative. When we were discussing Kiffin , all were wondering if his father would come with him and no negativity about nepotism then.

I agree with you -- just bad optics considering all of the other negative press.  Personally, I don't like nepotism in the workplace -- especially in a reporting relationship.  It's just not good business practice.

  9. You know you have made the right hire when, a) the new coach cannot be trusted with social media, b) the university must hire a PR firm to combat the negative press, c) the new coach hires his family members the first day, d) the university must 'explain' to the masses that the coaches DMs to a potential assault victim was not actual coercion but rather concern for his friend and/or bad judgment, e) the university reminds the coach that "you can't buy hookers for yourself or your recruits" (ok, I just added this one for fun), or f) all of the above.
