I guess there might be the upside that coaches don't have to make them "unlearn" bad habits.  If the talent and effort is there, might be OK to start with a fairly clean slate....especially guys on either side of the line....and the coach can teach then how he wants the game played.   JMO .

Well said... especially the unlearn bad habits part

    No (you're not crazy).

But....every kid is potentially a project, if you know what I mean.  You can sign a #1 overall, can't miss, sure fire stud and still miss.  We had one leave the program mid-year.  That's one of the reasons, in spite of what the Updykes want, they don't actually give one effing thing for signing a great class.  The coaches actually have to coach and the kids have to put in the work and go out and earn it.  It's one of the things that makes college athletics so great. and makes us all crazy.  So check that, yeah you're crazy.

I liked this post up until the last part, lol.

At least you guys can see where I'm coming from.

  2. Is anyone else worried about us signing these Nigerian kids who have played no more than 2 years of football? I mean even with how ultra talented these kids are, with only a couple years playing football, are they not project kids? I mean in Tega, we signed a 4* DE everyone wanted. It took a couple years for him to even get on the field and that was at an entirely different position. Kind of the same thing with Sammons. He was recruited by everyone and their brothers, but at DE. We recruited him as an OL.

I get these kids have immense potential, but they are extremely inexperienced.

I trust our coaching staff to coach them up, it took our coaches a minute (a few years) to get things going, but I now trust they can get them there.

But to me it just seems risky putting so much recruitng time, effort, and resources into kids who have almost no experience, regardless of potential.

Am I just crazy for thinking this way or do others share this concern?

  3. So I take it his 4.52 speed listed in the OP is wrong?  Reading through this thread seeing him being compared to Noel Devine. Devine has a reported 40 time of 4.26 seconds which is significantly faster than 4.52. But seeing as he is an amazing track runner, I have a hard time seeing him at 4.5.

I know 40 times aren't a playing speed, and they don't matter that much, but they do give a good idea of playing speed. And if he is comparable to Devine, no way 4.5 is correct. 4.2 is Tim Carter fast. It's crazy those .3 seconds make up THAT big of a difference, but it does.

  4.  Best and favorite are two entirely different things.

As far as best, I'd say Fullwood, Cribbs, Brooks, Rudi, and Bostic

Favorites I'd say Cadillac, Stephen Davis, Ben Tate,  Rudi, and Lectron Williams (simply because of his name.)

Or if you don't count Lectron because I really only liked his name, #5 for me would be a tie between Bostic, Ronnie Brown, Mario Fannin, or Irons

Pat Dye showed with the right coach in place AU can strive to be better than that and consistently compete and win sec titles in back to back years and have back to back 10 win seasons. With the way we have been recruiting we should be getting a lot better results back than we have. Auburn is a sleeping giant. Heck even with our bi polar ways we are still the 12th most winning program of all time. Just think how high we could be if we had more consistency and had some back 2 back 10 win seasons. In the last 5 seasons only 5 schools have had 5 consecutive top 10 classes: Bama, Ohio State, Fsu, Lsu and Auburn. Which one now sticks out as the team who has not done as well with those classes? US! The others perennially win 10 games a year most years.

You DO realize Pat Dye did that once. One single time, and that coincidentally the only time Auburn has ever gotten back to back 10 win seasons. In all of our history of playing football, being the 12th winningest program in NCAA football history, 10 wins back to back has happened a grand total of 1 time.

It's my hope that CCL's use of RBs shows that Joiner can be strictly an RB who just so happens to catch lots of passes- paging Kerryon Johnson- but I'm not sure if he's going to be waiting around long enough to find out for sure.

This is EXACTLY what I feel. If he can stop growing taller, we can have him as a possible 2k all purpose yard guy. It seems like he could easily put up 1300 yards on the ground and 700 through the air.

I think this season with KJ can show Joiner a LOT. If we have KJ put up a bunch of receiving yards, Joiner will see what he could do in this offense. Even with KJ being RB2.

You made it sound like we have lost every one so I had to do it.

I don't like losing croots to him either but I don't want to win for a kid that may not help us on the field just to get a recruiting W over Coach O. Not worth winning the battle if the recruit can't win the football war on the field.

E, are you saying you dont see Joiner helpingus win football games? You not see him as a gamer? He looks like he could be lethal in our offense.

A lot of 3* players wait till signing day as they are on the bubble with a team they like  so to have a chance with that team they need to find out if that team has an opening. It is that or commit to smebody and at the last minute when you get the offer you wanted pull the rug out from the team that you committed to.

Yeah, I get that. But at the same time don't a lot of 3* players commit early, so they are assured a spot in the class? I don't follow recruiting ultra heavily, so I don't know for sure.

I think he will make it into this class because of his size and athleticism either at another position or because also fits the big back type Auburn likes.

I don't understand how we can have guys like Payton Barber and Malik Miller and not want this guy. He looks like he could do some real damage in our offense. Especially since our new OC likes throwing to RBs

Then I dunno. But comparing his film to KJ, KJ was slashing about out running everything on the field. Granted it's not the same level of competition, but watch his film. It's not uncommon for him to be caught from behind. Even on the very first run of his highlights... True its a long TD run, but if the play is 5 yards longer, he doesn't score. At least 2 DBs catch up to him. That my friend is not 4.4 game speed unless those DBs are playing with 4.20 game speed.

Again, NOT knocking him. I want him. As much as anyone in the class. He could be GREAT here.

  8. 3 hours ago, AU80cruiser said:

^^^^^^I read a headline that he ran a 4.34 forty at a camp IIRC.

Maybe in shorts on artificial turf with hurricane force winds at his back. But he does not have THAT much game speed. Unless those DBs are Usain Bolt.

I'm not knocking the kid... At all. Like I said in my original post, I hope we make this kid priority 1.

  9. I really hope we can get this guy. His running style with those big long strides reminds me of Stephen Davis. He doesn't have break away speed. It's disappointing to see him get run down from behind a few times... Against highschool competition... But he has a natural running style and catches the ball apparently extremely well.

I truly hope we make this kid priority 1

God yall whine too much. Also D. Craig was a great recruiter but our WRs actually have looked better with Burns coaching them IMO. Have seen much fewer dropped passes.

Yeah talent has nothing to do with that.  It's all coaching...  Seems legit.

Just is. Okay, no real logic or analysis. Just is. Now I know to never ascribe any credibility to you. Just won't.

Cool story bro. Keep on towing the company line and trying to convince everyone this is a great hire.

It's all rainbows and unicorns huh

You are not towing the "woe is me" company line. You can't be an AU fan. I mean every naysayer on here knows we will win 7 at best. An hour ago we couldn't predict who the new OC would be, but now we all know how next season will be a fail. That my friend, is a true Auburn fan, :hellyeah:

There is a difference in being upset with a lackluster hire when we were told by everyone to expect a wow hire. And there is no way we win 7 next season. We are LOADED. but please do continue towing the AUFamily line and try to morph this into an excellent hire.

How do we know he's a yes man? Is DC in that tree?

Because he is. We can pretend he isn't all we want... And no DC isn't the same. Gus ran him off. This is another guy who Gus can control. I just don't see how Lindsey has sufficient experience but Kendall didn't. This guy is another high school coach. Or didn't you read his bio.  Oh and another thing, this is a hire that keeps Kodi Burns. Being as Lindsey had hired Kodi to be his RB coach as ASU, there is no chance Kodi is left without a job.... Just the safe choice all the way around...

Last year at USM his QB had 4,100 yards and 36 TDs. Jarrett Stidham will win us 10 plus. Gus ain't gonna be fired next year.

Um... Putting those numbers up at Southern Mississippi is the the same as the SEC, but go ahead and pump that sunshine.

  14. Alright... Who is going to start the coaching search thread? Gus probably  just fired himself.

I'm SO glad we were able to pull someone out of the CGM tree. Thank goodness it's not another yes man (I would be using yellow font but I don't know how...)

Thanks for the highlight. Kid has good speed and uses his body well to shield defenders. What I like the most though was how he went up and fought for the high passes or reached back for the underthrown passes. This was a great pickup.  I aalso like that Gus and Rhett both seem to think they need this type of TE so hopefully they will really use him as a weapon.

Let's hope so. Because if they do... This young man could be deadly... And be unlike any TE we have had in the modern era... Or he could not transition to the SEC... But i sure hope he does!

  16. I really hope he is all he was sold to be. I think he starts from day 1, but even if he doesn't, we will be infinitely  better at QB next season. Regardless of who is QB1 there won't be much drop off between he and QB2...unlike this season.

This is great news. It seems like forever since we have been in that situation.

If something comes out of A Day game that reveals anything about our QB  situation it will be the first time in living memory and I'm thinking back at least to when Cam showed us nothing in his brief appearance.

JMO but it will be late August before we know anything for certain.   BUT....we will have about 8 months to speculate about who is doing what...and learn whether JF3 is going to get a shot at the starting job.

I can name one time I've seen it happen. In 2012 Bryan Bennett was assumed to become the starter at Oregon. He was a fan favorite. Then there was some unknown kid named Marcus Mariota stepped up and looked like a man among boys. He made Bennett look like Jon Wallace going against Cam in the LSU game.

It was a Spring performance unlike anything I've ever seen.

Stidham could walk out there and just go nuts, and be heads and shoulders better than everyone else. Or not...

    It can happen...

Nice pic and Merry Christmas to all..

And I know he is a QB but looks to me like the could afford some  serious time in the weight room if he is going to be a DT in the SEC....those big LBs will be stripping the ball from him otherwise.

Because Sean and KJ are so much  bigger? We look tiny compared to other teams... Like the other one in the state, LSU, Arkansas, Georgia... Most of our players are (or seem on tv) tiny compared to those other schools.

Russell learned from Yox. We haven't had real change of our S&C program in over 2 decades.

I understand this kid is great, but I thought Jalen Harris was going to be the next great TE at AU.  If they are going to use this kid, then why wouldn't they use Harris?

Either way, great to have another excited recruit.  Welcome Mr Cannella.

Totally different skill sets. One is primarily a blocker. What makes this kid dangerous is his catching ability and the miss match he would create with LBs trying to cover him. That's why I said in one of my other posts that I hope we don't try to turn him into Jay Prosch. This kid isn't being recruited because of his elite blocking ability. If we are planning to use him as a FB/TE,  I don't see him being much more than a contributer. If we properly utilize him, he COULD be a superstar. I am as excited about the possibility this guy presents as I am about JS.

Compare Tx facilities to ours and you can see why he could be blown away. We are starting to fall behind the big boys and some of the small boys imo.

We really are. I've seen quite a few stadiums throughout the country. We had top notch facilities in the 90s, but haven't made much progress since. And with things like this,  it's like walking up down going escalators. There is no standing still. You are either moving forward or falling behind.

Understood. Didn't open link but I have to admit the pics of the stuff at Bama and Oregon that I saw a year or two ago were impressive. I know it would have made a big impression on me as an 18-21 year old... Or, heck, as a 50 year old, lol.

To most big time recruits, they HAVE to sell those extra things. Because 9 months of the year it's always raining and about 40°.

How many guys will we have wanting #3 next season?

SC posts a pic of him wearing #3. JS does the same. And NCM is currently wearing #3. That's gonna get interesting.
