  1. Ah I think Gonzalez is a pretty solid manager--certainly better than Cox.
  2. Do you really think the Braves haven't been trying to get rid of BJ? C'mon... I think the trade could end up being really good for the Braves. We needed a starter and they got one who has been pretty solid the last two season. He's also cheap and we freed up a bunch of money by trading Heyward. Everything I've read has lead me to believe that we would not be able to afford him after next season. I also do think we still move either Justin or Gattis. Yeah the Heyward trade was really pretty good for Atlanta. Braves got a middle-to-top of the rotation guy and arguably the Cards top pitching prospect. I'm not sure exactly how much money that has freed up, but it has to be a nice chunk with Walden leaving as well.
  3. I think they will, but I could see that happening during the season. Trading Gattis has also been widely rumored but that makes less sense to me due to the team's four remaining years of control over Gattis.
  4. Yeah no one is going to take BJ Upton's ridiculous contract from Atlanta. I hope the Braves will at least cut him though rather than allowing him to sink the team's play in addition to the checkbook.
  5. Yeah I wish the Braves could play the Nats every day. They really have Washington's number. And apparently Philly too
  6. Pretty great way to win, but you're right about Santana. ICYMI: http://deadspin.com/phillies-fans-reactions-to-dan-ugglas-grand-slam-are-am-1563288296
  7. From looking through UT's signing classes during his stint in Knoxville, I'd say yes. He signed four 5* athletes and usually at least one 4* each year.
  8. Medlen may have ligament damage in his elbow. Tommy John surgery is uncertain at this point but it looks likely he will, at minimum, miss a portion of the season. Big blow if this holds him out more than a month or so.
  9. A few Braves Spring Training notes: -Medlen left his last start with a strained forearm -Freeman and Heyward have started the spring strong at the plate -Ramero Pena has also started strong coming off of his injury last year; this is significant because I could see Uggla getting replaced by Pena pretty quickly if both players' respective trends continue -On the mound, Freddy Garcia has struggled badly; Alex Wood is doing great; Teheran and Beachy are both pitching pretty solid. -Bullpen numbers are hard to dissect with such small samples, but the Braves have great depth there and should have the best pen in the league this year
  10. The Yankees suck. (just a reminder) I saw where they treated Mr. Heisman very rudely. Do the Yanks finish 4th or 5th in their division? That is the question that is yet to be answered. I say the East goes Boston, Baltimore, NYY, Rays, Jays
  11. Never thought I was be so happy to hear about a Yankees victory! The dark period of sports is almost over
  12. Yeah that's why I wouldn't have thrown that much money out there. I remember Matsuzaka was good for a year or two and then fell off, if memory serves.
  13. Seriously though, what are the expectations for that Japanese player they signed?
  14. As a Braves fan, I'm really glad the Yanks took McCann off our hands. His career has been declining yet the Yankees saw fit to give him a big raise. Cheers, guys! That's the 'Yankee way.'
  15. Sounds like there's a good chance that Hudson is back with Atlanta next year. Hopefully McCann will not be. I think it's unlikely the Braves can find another team willing to pay $6 million of Uggla's owed $26 million, as Mark Bowman reported. And speaking of a true #1 starter, I read an article a couple weeks ago about the possibility of David Price to Atlanta.
  16. I'd really love to see Chris Johnson move to the 2-spot in the lineup. No knock against Heyward, but Johnson has much more bat control and he's getting on base at a great rate so maybe some of these J. Upton HRs will not be solo shots. Also, Heyward might benefit from batting further down the lineup with some more RBI opportunities.
  17. I think it was Doug Eddings. He, Angel Hernandez, Laz Diaz (although he's gotten better), and the ump with the mustache (who's name escapes me) are the worst in MLB. But yeah, those calls were absolutely awful against KC.
  18. Agreed. These things usually work themselves out but McCann hit .230 last year and would probably top out around .270 this year with 20HR/70RBI. Gattis--to this point--provides a lot more power, better average, and better defense.
  19. Wow, Julio Teheran struck out 10 batters while pitching 6 no-hit innings. That effort lowered his ERA this Spring to 1.04. That's doing work. I'm excited to see him pitch for an extended period. Even when/if Beachy returns it likely won't be until 2014 that he is really able to return to form and you can never have enough SP depth.
  20. The Braves scored 35 runs and hit 9 homers in the last two games. It's just two days but wow.
  21. Johnny Damon, Scott Podsednik, and Bobby Abreu are out there as FAs. Might be worth a quick deal. Matt Diaz can handle lefties but all three of those options would be good against righties, if not as everyday starters. If Granderson was going to get hurt, I guess it's good to get it out of the way at the very beginning of Spring Training.
  22. It's also spelled Islamorada I don't give a hoot about the AL East but I agree that the Orioles have a pretty legit shot. I think Toronto looks good on paper, but they need a lot to go right for them to be in contention after July. For one, I think Melky Cabrera is going to come back down to Earth stats-wise since he won't have PEDs in his system. Jose Reyes won't have the same value in the AL, Adam Lind and Rasmus both need to add .30 points to their BA and I don't have faith in Josh Johnson to stay healthy. My 2 cents...
