  1. I think Nix has objectively gotten better but was paired with two 2 coaches with s*** passing offenses and that couldnt develop qbs. They also put a barely functioning team around him. 2019 had probably the best pieces around Nix, bit even then the oline was just solid and not great. It is true though the pack 10 has by far worse defense than the SEC. The only real way to judge Bo was if he went to a team with really good but not insane talent (like LSU level or something) and then had to play Georgia or Bama. On a more level playing field against excellent defenses, what would he do. Oregon has the skill position guys but their lines cant matchup with absolute killers like Georgia's d line.

I said it elsewhere, but we also don’t need an entire stable of guys with lasers either. It would be nice don’t get me wrong, but you have two seemingly competent shooters at the 1, at least 1 amongst the 2 (and sometimes KDs got it). CMo can shoot, Jaylin…his form always scares me but he’s at least respectable. As long as your new 3 can shoot, the majority of your 1-4 contributors will be able to hit shots, which is pretty much all you can ask for in college

No offense but the only even halfway consistent 3 ball guy we had in the 1-4 this year was Jaylin and that's when he didnt dissapear. Kd was definitely not reliable. Cmo is not a scorer, period.  Aden could be that guy, we dont yet know how it translates to college. I assume it will.  I think Denver will be one. That's 3 possible. So we definitely need one more. We better get one at the 3 spot...that's the real key to this offense.

They play the same position more than anything. You already have two point guards (and neither Quincy or Denver are facilitators anyway), and they’re both probably too small to be ideal 3s. KD is going to be a fixture on the team in some capacity, so you have two shooting guards now. Just no real way to find minutes for Quincy as a meaningful contributor

Just seems like you could run some 3 guard sets we we need more scoring punch. I realize there are drawbacks to those sets, I just hate seeing us let go of a guy like that unless we can counter with a top tier guy at the preferred position (the 3).

He's not a 3 aka SF. We are looking for a starting SF. Dunn was the top target but he committed to Houston so we are circling the wagons now.

Yeah I get it we are looking for a SF, I just feel like we need shooting however we can get it. Hopefully, Bruce can reign in a 3 that can shoot from outside.

Auburn academics biting us in the butt again. No idea why we seem to be the only SEC school that can’t make s*** happen. Some talk the staff might prefer Leary anyways.

Kirby wouldve found him a nice underwater basket weaving class at Uga. Notice they and Bama never have these issues.

  6. Unfortunately not the same scenario. The 2002 team had underachieved to that point. The roster was loaded with guys who would be part of the 2004 undefeated team. 2002 2003 2004 and maybe 2005 were Tubs most talented teams. We may have been underdogs, but we absolutely matched The Updykes talent wise in that game. This year nowhere close unfortunately. Obviously anything can happen and I hope it does!

Scheme doesn't cover up the fact that we have a veteran O-line that has gotten worse every game. Or why our starting WRs outside of an occasional pass to Ja'varrious Johnson have gone MIA. Or why Pappoe and Shenker have regressed.

I push back on the Jimmy's and Joe's argument because we're still playing mostly players recruited by Gus- players we beat Georgia, Alabama and Florida out for. Depth is an issue for sure, but we still have enough talent in this roster not to get embarrassed on the regular that we have for the last month.

The entire potato bunch are simply not used to this level of competition and have shown no proof of concept

I was under the impression in the interview with AU Kirby requested details of all the current NCAA allegations but we refused to share that with him in case he took the information back to Bama. Am I off base? Could've sworn I read that here at the time.

Had he been hired here and had things humming and we gave him a raise when UGA came calling I'm not sure it would have been such an easy decision to go back to UGA and start over. This is a business and a lot goes into these decisions beyond alma mater. Not saying he wouldn't have left but I don't think it's fair to assume he would've left, particularly if he had things looking good here

Kirby is shady as f$$. I would definitely not put it past him to take anything he could have back to Bama to get an advantage. When he left Bama, he stole the names off their recruiting board and showed it to recruits. He cried to the SEC office after the first Au vs uga game in 2017 saying our dbacks were getting away with holding.  The guy has no scruples or class. He will literally use anything he can get his grubby hands on to get an advantage. Learned from the best at it.

And that was my issue.  Your right, but it's been in chaos since after the 2017-18 season.  We haven't remotely been good in 5 years.  The expectation to turn it around quickly was unreasonable to anyone paying attention to the program.

CBH didn't help himself any and in doing so put him behind a year. Add that to the cluster of roster mismanagement and you see where we're at.  Hopefully a different coach can utilize the portal with better effect.

I agree with all but the 2019 team. Feel like with a great qb that team couldve done some damage, even with the Autist himself Gussy calling the shots.  But we had Bocephius Nix instead. 2018, 2020, 2021 and now 2022 were hot garbage though with the last half of 21 and 22 being the worst of the bunch. You'll totally correct in we've essentially been crap for years.

  10. Stidham's success was mostly predicated on how the run game did. The reason for that was he came from an offense (Art Briles) where he was only taught to make one or two reads before throwing. Then he comes into a Gus Malzahn offense that doesn't give him the passing options or coaching to find them all even if there were many (Gus never taught QB's to read defenses either). Because of the aforementioned, Gus's passing was all predicated on running the ball well to succeed. Games in 2017 where we ran well (which there were a lot because we had a good online) Stidham usually played pretty darn well. When we didn't (Clemson, 2nd Uga game) he usually played like crap. Then the 2018 team lost nearly the whole line from 2017 and severely regressed at run blocking. That was the main reason for Stidham's decline in 2018. Overall, he was pretty darn accurate and possessed elite arm strength on certain types of throws.

The guy he reminds me of is Sammie Coates. Hopefully he'll be a little more consistent than Sammie was, but I'd take a Coates-level impact from Brown, I'd say, considering he played in the League for at least a few years.

I'd take Sammy Coates level impact from Brown in a heartbeat. I trashed Sammie's 'stone hands' on east routes at times like the rest of us, but he was an elite big play receiver for Auburn. Probably one of the best we've had. In fact, I argue part of Jeremy Johnson's downfall/regression in 2015 was the loss of Coates and his ability/threat to take the top off the defense.

  12. I personally dont see him having the body type needed to shed trash at the NFL level. Hes probably got good enough strength at the safety position, I just dont see that at linebacker....even outside linebacker unless it's like the star position or something like that. He might be a good candidate for a team that utilizes that position but not one that expects the outside backer to engage lineman and such.

Although I think we will beat Kentucky should we face them again on a neutral court, I'm worried about them.

    • They were very competitive against us on our home court, even after injuries to some of their important players.
    • They were absolutely NOT intimidated by us or The Jungle.
    • Much of our success came from Kessler's wide open dunk lobs.  UK will be ready for that next time.  Oscar won't leave Kessler near as much to help out on the perimeter defensively.
    • Immediately after the game, they openly talked about hoping to play us again when healthy on a neutral court, and openly stated they think they are better than us.  They are supremely confident, especially after destroying Kansas yesterday on the road, with TyTy only scoring 2 points.
    • They are immensely talented.  Their starting 5 is very good (but we have the clear advantage in depth).

That makes for a tough rematch should it occur.

BP will have the players ready, but hopefully not so pumped that they play out of control at the beginning of the game like they did at home against UK.

Rematch, if it occurs: AU 94, UK 93, double OT.

All very true. However I think our home court had sort of the reverse effect on us at the beginning of that game. We looked way too jacked up and were careless with the ball. If Bruce can get us more consistently well oiled on offense, we can actually play much better against them the next time we meet. Now I expect them to play better too. But my point is it works both ways.

The turnovers that game were sort of a microcosm for a larger issue we've had this year offensively. We go in spurts where it looks like we are gonna blow the doors off the other team then inexplicably seem to go into an offensive mini slump with careless turnovers, lack of ball movement, etc. Then we somehow come out of it almost every game. If we can keep the gas on all game from an offensive execution standpoint, theres actually another gear we have. I hope we get there.

  14. With defensive coordinator, I'd prefer a type that can inspire consistent excellence in recruiting high caliber players. Look at the impact Muschamps presense had on our recruiting in just the one year he was here. Kevin Steele, to me, continued that momentum being assisted by several star recruiters on the staff...Garner, Crime Dog, etc. I'm concerned Schmedding doesn't have that factor and we lost of the two assistants that did (lost Eason, retained Etheridge). To me, it's about recruiting first and foremost. I'm not as concerned about Schmeddings x's and o's

No disrespect but that is a terrible example. Gatewood is no Fullwood as far as talent

Exactly. Nor was the guy who started over him any superstar qb....i believe the kid who started over Gatewood played division one but was not some superstar. Not a good comparison. The Cam comparison isnt good either imo because he was a really good starting highschool qb. Not a guy who split time. If you cant be the man in highschool, unless your sitting behind some future division one star, it ain't likely your just gonna become some stud in college where theres a massive talent gap between highschool.

I’m hoping Harsin moves quickly with a good replacement.  The warm and fuzzies with Eason are all well and good but this is happening while recruiting is still going on and spring practice is coming up.  The DL should be the strength of the team next year and we need some good strong leadership in place soon.

Warm and fuzzies with Eason were gone with me the second I heard he was trying to steal Jayson Jones.

So true, OL and QB. If we can just get the offense to play at the same level as the defense we will be good. Great news that Pappoe is coming back and hopefully on the field.

Everything will hinge on OL and QB....you're dead on. We have to, have to, have to get some dynamic olineman in the portal. I wish I could say I was sold on Finley as the starter, but Im just not. Need a dynamic qb as well. Seems like this has been going on for like 10 years...if we could just get the offense to play at the level of the defense. Maybe this time, I hope.

  18. This is great news, but was he considered a legit draftable prospect at all at this point? Not does he have future potential to be, but right now. I honestly dont understand any of our o lineman considering the draft at this point.

  19. The Nix was treated unfairly claim is pretty ludicrous. It comes with the territory as an Au quarterback...you get the brunt of both the criticism and the praise. It's nothing exclusive to Bo. If they think they got a raw deal, they should go talk to Kiehl Fraziers dad and they might rethink what mistreatment from fans truly is. Beyond him, I remember numerous AU qbs over the years getting boo'd at various times for underperforming. Again. It's not all about Bo.
