It appears the Sooner is at the Red River shootout, which is a neutral site. It appears the Gator is at home against Tennessee after the game.

Far far away from a bammer QB flipping off the AU Student section during the game.

I respectfully disagree with that statement (the 'Far far away from a bammer QB flipping off the AU Student section during the game' part). Clearly, we aren't on the same page here. Good day to you sir. 😀

I can’t imagine a QB flipping off an opposing student section. Talk about creating your own death sentence. It would follow him the rest of his life. Not even JF, the villian himself, went anywhere close to that far.

Was 2010 and wasn’t a flip off to anyone.

Are you indicating that's beyond the realm of possibility? Is say it's possible. I may have remembered wrong in this instance, but its definitely possible.

It was definitely the 2010 Iron Bowl in Tuscaloser...

Lol. Man. My memory has apparently become s*** upon hitting 40. I have distinct image in my mind of Mcelroy doing it in the 2009 iron bowl but with both hands turned up more, a more obvious flip off to the student section. Maybe I'm mixing it up with another rival QB...Jesse Palmer, some other tool like that. Hell I dunno what to believe at this point.

I’ve never ever understood how some of our fans discerned that was a bird to our fans. HE WAS IN BAMMER’S STADIUM. The Auburn fans were in the upper deck well adjacent to the bammers in the end zone. So he flipped off his own fans??

    SMDH

Pretty sure it was the 2009 iron bowl he shot our fans the bird. Was in Auburn. Honestly, who really cares at this point.

  5. Biggest difference was 2013 had 2 elite pass rushing defensive ends and 2014/2015 did not. Dee Ford graduated after 2013 and Lawson missed 2014 and half of 2015 and was clearly not fully healthy even when he came back in 2015. Statistically 2013 not not that good a defense overall. They were very statistically good in the red zone though.

Was watching the history of the SEC this weekend and it was fascinating to see the footage from the 80s.  I had no idea a player died from heat exhaustion.  The majority of the 80s episode was about Auburn and the revival of the Iron Bowl.

What was the show called? Would love to find and view.

Wonder what happened to recruiting?  Rise of Florida and Tennessee?  Did we lose a coordinator?  Maybe we can break out the AUFamily archive and see what @ellitor was saying.

I was wondering this too. Seems like we must have recruited well beforehand and the decline Stat mentions were before Ramsey. Why did we drop? Pat Dye was ad, so he probably had a ton of input on athletics and academic requirements, so probably nothing related to that. But I dunno....

The first factor to look at is recruiting during 1988-1990, which had dropped off. Only 39.7 percent of the players signed during those three years were considered highly touted (4-5 star) players. Of the ones that did sign, 41 percent started no more than one season during their collegiate career. Overall, 28.8% of the players signed during those three seasons saw no playing time. Dye was dealing with health issues and the Ramsey stuff was a dark cloud over the program. Auburn had enough talent to be competitive but lacked the quality depth it possessed during the mid to late 1980's. IMO, the offense lacked identity and was too conservative and there wasn't a dominating defense to mask the offensive issues.

Stat, I'm immediately wondering what our % of highly touted guys was before 1988. Also, how the heck do you get recruiting data that far back? I'm a junky when it comes to those sort of numbers, so any help for my addiction would be most appreciated. 🤣

Nick freakin Marshall. Watch how many times he makes a man miss. Underrated passer also. Arm strength for days.

CAP had more speed back then. I think he got a little too top heavy. He’s still got a job in the NFL tho....just won’t be with Brady this year.

Coates had all the talent in the world... but those hands. We needed some superglue.

No wonder our D struggled for the rest of the year. Most of the time we got nothing up front. This was a case of extremely poor qb play from LSU imo.

This shows what a CGM offense can do when the qb is mobile. It sets everything up when the qb runs. Doesn’t have to do it lots, but the D has to respect the possibility.

Fave thing about this game: the LSU fans at halftime were the nicest I’ve ever seen them. They knew their biscuits were burnt.

Nick Marshall and the arm strength thing..100% with ya. Dude had a rocket launcher for an arm. Might sound crazy to say/think, but I seriously wonder who could actually throw the deep ball further...Nick or Cam. I would have paid money to watch a PPV of those guys chunking deep balls in some sort of a crazy deep ball contest.

    Let's see here:

-Completely different staff than Frazier. Gus was his OC but now Gus is his HC and Morris is his OC. You'd be justified to remain skeptical about how much control Morris will have over the offense, but the fact that we just landed a big time QB recruit out of a big time Texas high school- along with the two OLs and the speedy WR, all in one weekend- shows you that things are already going much differently on offense than they have since Gus became head coach.

-For Barrett and Gatewood, most of the above remains true. We still have the same WR and RB coaches that Gatewood had, and Gus was the head coach for both. Otherwise, it's a lot of new new.

-Gatewood didn't flame out at Auburn. He got beat out by a 5* franchise QB. And now he's the presumptive starter for a mid-tier SEC East program.

-Chad Morris coached Tajh Boyd and Deshaun Watson.

-Probably the best answer to your question as asked is to watch film on each guy and come to your own conclusions.

-Objectively, if you have these concerns about this guy, then you have them about literally every high school QB prospect. And that is totally understandable. Believe me, I see where you're coming from. But, personally, I don't see value in voicing those concerns in his recruitment thread so soon after he committed. There's plenty of time for that. He won't even be on campus for another 7-8 months at least.

-Regarding Morris bringing new life to the offense, I just remain skeptical until I see it. Gus has burned me a lot of times. I hope Im wrong.

-I didnt specifically say Gatewood flamed out. But he was another hyped QB that didnt end up being a star for us. I also wouldnt call Nix a franchise QB yet. He has a winning mentality and is a smart qb with some great skills, but his production has not nearly matched his potential yet. He may get there, but is not yet. I do see your point there, but again, Ill reitorate my prior one.

-Gus coached Cam Newton and Kick Marshall, both of whom were awesome. Similar to the Morris thing with coaching Tajh (5 star) and Deshaun (5 star). I couldve coached those guys to excellence.

-As far as voicing concerns in a recruiting thread, hey, its a message board. The whole beauty of it as it doesnt matter what I post. The kid will either be good or not. 🙂

I think Kiehl might have comparable hype, just because he was supposed to be the successor to Cameron and had the links with Gus already, but in a vacuum, Davis is more hyped than all 3 prospects

I never saw anything from Joey to make me think he was a bust like you’re alluding to either

I dont feel like thats an accurate statement. Kiehl was a high 4 star on rivals and a 5 star via Scout and I believe was the high school national player of the year. Davis is fairly high rated, but not that high with that many accolades.

As far as Gatewood...let me clarify. Dont necessarily mean he was a bust, mainly i meant another hyped up 4 star qb everyone got excited about that didnt end up playing QB at Auburn at a high level. In his case, it was due to playing time.

  12. Someone please give me some hope this guy will be different than the last high but not sure cant miss dual threat qb recruit...ala Kiehl Frazier, Woody Barrett, or Joey Gatewood? I want to get excited, but you know what they say about fool me twice. Well, except this time its fool me like 5 times. Objectively, is this guy that good?

I suppose if the consolation prize for losing Green is that we get Thor, things could definitely be worse. Not giving up on Jalen, just reading the tea leaves a little. And, not for nothing, but I would rather get Thor and Brown than to only get Green.

Of course, getting all three would absolutely bring the roof down, but I'm not getting my hopes up for that.

Why the lack of confidence in getting Green? Thought we lead for him.
