Again, you don't know what happened prior to that... It was something that made Chad Wilson, Florida DB Marco Wilson dad pull out her camera & start recording. That's all I am saying Worm is not a 1st year college player and this has never happened before, its not even his character unless you take him to that level and I know that 1st hand. But let me keep quiet before because Im his mom and I don't want anybody saying I am make excuses for this situation.

I was very surprised to see the clip surface involving him as it seemed very out of character. Thanks for clarifying!

But now you're dealing in hypotheticals and assumptions and speculative if > then statements.

Regardless, I want my guy to behave exactly as Shaun did in that situation. And I want the rest of my guys running over to get his back when it happens. More of that attitude on offense could've helped us win the game.

No flag was thrown, so who cares? We have bigger issues.

No no no, we can't say it's fine just because we "got away with it" this time. Obviously, we're not seeing the whole picture here (as @Momma Worm is saying) but I don't want our guys being the physical aggressor in these situations. Let that fire fuel you on the field but don't get yourself into trouble before you even get out there.

But he didn't do it during the game. He did it before the game.

So what was wrong with it? Love ya back, bro!

Not 100% sure, but I think he could've still been penalized and possibly ejected anyway. (Maybe @WarTiger can confirm/deny?)

You don't want your guy as the aggressor in these situations. If his temper is up and he throws punches - what is he going to do in the game, especially if your offense is struggling? I'm not saying I wouldn't have done the same as him in retaliation (you are fairly defenseless when someone can grab your face mask like that and that gets you fired up) but you started it by grabbing his first (however briefly).

That isn't really an answer as to what you think is wrong with it. But yes, I would gladly ask Gus the same question if given the opportunity. Why would he care? Why would he punish a player for showing that kind of fire and passion? Why would he do anything but give that kid the first series of the game?

It would explain a lot about Gus and so many of his team's uninspired performances if that is the mindset he is incubating in our locker room. I  really hope it isn't.

Love ya 'Loof, but we're going to disagree with this mentality. lol I'm all for playing a fired up Shivers if he wasn't the guy that physically started the confrontation. If he does all of that in the game, he's ejected. That's basically 3 personal fouls on Shivers and one each for two Florida players. That's just not okay.

  5. 1 minute ago, McLoofus said:

Why do you care, though? What damage was caused? What were the terrible consequences of his actions?

Like, I just don't see anything wrong with what he did at all.

Okay.. are you still going to be saying that if Gus comes out and says that Shivers has been suspended for his actions pregame? Or that he was suspended for the Florida game because of it? If so, that's an avoidable consequence.

So he should've have asked them politely to kindly venture back to their side of the field? Those guys didn't come over to our side bearing gifts. Not trying to sound snarky just trying to get my point across. They should not have been on our side of the field period IMO

    We can agree to disagree

Maybe the problem is that there were no other Auburn players there to get Worm's back. Maybe the problem is that we don't have more guys like him.

C'mon guys - I don't mind the smack talking or the retaliation - just don't be the first guy who gets physical with it. That's the only part I took issue with. He could've ignored them and kept his back to them. He could've walked away from them. He could've just run his mouth right back at them but he grabbed the face mask first. That puts him at fault. Doesn't matter if they were on "our side" of the field.

It's Florida - that kind of crap should've been expected. LSU and Georgia will probably try similar crap before the game. The players can't let it get to them like that.

Some of you would be ok with us not retaliating if a team stomped on our logo pre-game it seems. Those UF dudes had no business being on our side of the field as it was. Worm did exactly what he needed to do there. You've either never played sports or soft if you think otherwise IMO. This sport does not reward you for being passive

No, the problem is that Shivers initiated contact by grabbing the UF player's facemask. Doesn't matter where the players were on the field or what was being said, unless they grabbed you first, you don't act out like that. I love Shivers, I like his fire and his fearlessness to go at it alone against 3-4 other players but don't be the guy that starts it physically.

  8. I'd give Gus a B+ for this game. We got conservative too soon and A&M was able to figure things out and start scoring. That last TD drive was great but we needed another one of those before then for me to give the man an A. If we do this crap against LSU (again), Georgia, or Bama we're doomed in those games. In fact, if we're not doing everything we can to score every single drive against LSU, I'm not giving the man an A grade even if we win by 2 TDs or more. (Yes, I'll be happy with a win dang it, but after last year I want Burrow to regret ever coming to the SEC.)

Negatives: penalties and conservative calls in the 3rd quarter

Positives: special teams and run game/o-line play (minus an individuals lack of effort that resulted in at least two negative plays that I noted).

Nix has got to start connecting on those deep balls. This offense can be really good once that starts happening. Heck, make one or two of those against A&M and Gus probably would've gotten the A from me. Not his fault, he's not the QB, but he shoulders the results! lol ;)

Let's be real - if Stidham went down last year, we probably don't win another game, based on what we saw of M Willis' and his throwing the ball.

NOW is the time to develop both with the lionshare going to Bo of course.

Player development on the O side!  One of my 3 biggest pet peeves.

For sure! QB depth was a huge liability and still is to an extent. O-line depth is even scarier to me so I'd love to get those backups time on the field over the next 2 weeks.

     Thanks Coach!

Reference: “I'm hopeful that we will get Joey Gatewood some genuine playing time in these next couple of games”

I know Gus is always torn between getting a young quarterbacks as many snaps as possible, which means the back-up won’t get as many quality reps. Just wondering (in our current situation) your thoughts on which is more important?

I'm thinking we see Bo Nix for 3 quarters this week and let Joey finish the game out. A lot of issues early in the game could be attributed to timing - game speed plus knowing your receivers, so I think they'll try to get Bo as many reps as possible (unless we put up 42 in the first half).

Definitely want Gatewood in there in the 4th at least - and passing the ball around too - just to keep him primed if we happen to need him for more than just a sneaky QB keeper at the goal line. :)

The dramatic improvement in fumbles lost might be a statistical anomaly due to a relatively small sample size (thankfully).

A lot of those from last season were by Stidham, so him not running as much definitely helped lower that number. lol

@Linayus FWIW most of the rankings are based on pro potential, not college potential. Owen is still a 5* by ESPN, 247, & the composite FWIW. What Rivals is saying is at the size Owen has remained the past 3 or so years they don't project him to be a 1st round pick now as an LB when he goes pro. I don't agree with the sites making ranking heavily on pro potential but with that being the standard, it's a fair opinion of them to think he will not be a 1st round LB pick at his size.

I honestly did not know that. Thanks!

  13. Man, all this has me excited for the future! Auburn could be GREAT on offense again if we shore up our o-line.

Also - I'm still peeved at all this recruiting nonsense based on size alone. Deshaun Davis played more like a 5 star than most 5 stars did. Size helps but not enough for me to say that OP is 4 stars versus 5 just because he didn't grow a little more. If the extra weight/inches slows him down and hinders his ability then I'd rather him stay where he's at.

Obviously, Auburn will beef him up a bit and condition him to play at that size, but his natural ability should outweigh (pun possibly intended) any negatives regarding his size.

Question is, did he commit to AU or a coach w zero pedigree for developing talented kids?

Bo is an Auburn guy - with or without the current coaching staff. I love guys like him who just want to play for Auburn, win or lose. He's also been our #1 asset in recruiting Owen Pappoe (5* LB).

Once a fair catch is signaled by ANY player on the field, the recieving team forfeits their right to advance the ball.  It doesn't matter at all if the kick is caught, grounded or muffed.  Once the fair catch is called for the ball will be blown dead when in possession of the receiving  team.   If the kick is untouched but grounded the fair catch still negates the receiving teams ability to advance the ball  Advancing the ball after signaling for a fair catch is a delay of game penalty.   Easy call last week.

I saw this situation over the weekend and was able to provide more insight thanks to you!! lol

I might be wrong, but I don't believe they actually flagged the receiving team for a delay of game though. Otherwise, everything else was spot on.
