That "IF" is like getting a bama fan to spell dentist.  Or like confusing a UGA player by making him use uncle and father in the same sentence.  It ain't happening under Gus.  Chip calls Gus' offense.  When Chip came to Auburn he no longer had an offensive style.  Not being ugly but it is what it is.

Absolutely, if we evolve the offense more towards Chip's style and Stidham's abilities we can win every game.  Grimes with the offensive line I think we will see them work more as a unit, there is more talent on the line next year than last year, they just need to reach it.  Defensive front can help cover the youth in the secondary.

    So your saying no.

    Thank you!

You offered an explanation better that I could put in words.  Someone said we need to build depth, and its hard to build experienced depth when attrition hits your roster.

Yes.  Attrition does not have to be a kid leaving the program.  It can be an injury.  Tre Williams if you will.  Kids leaving like Kyle Davis hurt us as well.  What would have happened this year if Ryan Davis and Slayton were injured?

Gus is an amazing recruiter for kids who want a father figure and for moms who want their kids taken care of. He's an awful recruiter for kids who are focused on the NFL and a path to get there and families who are focused on the money that football can bring.

THAT IS WAY BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE SAID IT!!!!!!!!!  That's it in a nutshell.

One can only affect that which he is control of. I don't worry about others that much. If they are successful it makes beating them even better

I'm with you Bird and I wish I was geared more that way.  Unfortunately Texas is a long way from these GA idiots and it is shoved down your throat like the english peas you hated as a kid and were made to take at least one bite

What players have we lost, other than for legal issues, that could have helped us win games? There may be one out there that dropped out of AU, went to another P-5 school and became a solid contributor but I don't remember such a case.

Just off the top of my head it looks like Jackson going to OSU will be a stud.  I think you are both correct. We don't lose elite talent that are contributors to the team.  But when a kid leaves if you have a ton of studs nobody cares.  Eventually over time your roster is loaded with such talent that an injury or dismissal just means that someone just as good steps in.

I thought T-Will was our Alpha Dog.

T-Will is an Auburn Man and a damn good one.  He is also a good recruiter.  You need to see butt cut Kirby speak in person away from the cameras to see what I am talking about.  As a head coach and a closer to go into a kids home he is everything that Gus isn't personality wise.  Gus is a much better person and does not use the language and aggressiveness Kirby does.  I would want Gus raising my kid and I would want Kirby coaching my kid if that makes sense.

Yep. Our job has certainly gotten a lot harder. Not saying we don't have a shot b/c I'm fine with our class. I've never had any issues with our recruiting classes. We just have to start developing and utilizing that talent better consistently b/c it's clear that we have enough talent to beat both teams. I'm of the belief that if a program can consistently recruit at a top 15 or top 10 level then they can beat anyone. It's all about what the coaches do with those classes.

I don't understand why we are almost never in it early for any 5* elite talent while schools like UGA, who is not a bigger national brand than us, can get kids from everywhere that are top 30 players in the country.  The world is not ending but we have to step up our game to play UGA and Bama and then UGA again if we are going to be successful.  We can't just keep doing what we are doing because that crap in Athens isn't going to stop anytime soon.  I will try to spend the rest of my day being happy about our class and ignore the earthquake tremor happening 20 miles down the road.

Exactly; being we have to play them both within 3 weeks and possibly again in the SEC Championship if we make it there. We have to start establishing depth at key positions. Yes, that starts with recruiting but it also involves getting players more live reps during the soft parts of our schedule; not waiting until guys get hurt.

This and we have to identify elite talent , 5* Kids, and be relentless.  We can't just recruit good players that we think we have a chance of signing.  If you have ever watched Kirby speak at a coaching clinic he is an alpha dog mentality.  He makes kids want to play for him.  If you are in a bar room fight do you want to side with the skinny kid talking about family or do you want to be with the alpha dog?  Somewhere on our staff we need 1 coach like this.  A younger Garner if you will.

I do not want to! lol. It will make me feel even worse. At least our OL class last year was in the ballpark. This year though......

    Last year they signed

the #5 and #9 OT in the country
the #6 Gaurd in the country
    the #2 Juco OT
    All top 100 nationally

Kirby isn't even waiting on the lights out signal in the prison before he does his deeds.

When comparing OL classes they completely kicked our tails. That was a way bigger blow out than us beating them in game 1 or them spanking us in the rematch. That is where they really separated themselves. No other league than the sec is recruiting more important on the OL and DL. We came up empty in a class where we desperately needed not to. That is what is so frustrating. We prioritized OL this class and we just did not deliver. Inexcusable when you recruit as well as we do.

Look at the OL class they had last year as well.

I think we have enough offensive linemen to get us through 2018, and I think we will load up on them in next year's class. And yes, I do think we've signed enough good athletes to keep up with UAT and UGA.

I hope you are right but I don't see us beating Ugag again for quite some time.  It's not like the last ten years have been close in the series and Kirby has taken the talent to another level.  It doesn't just stop with talent either.  Ugag finally has a coach that understands that winning in the SEC means running the football.  They have a stable full to do just that and they are signing the crud out of OL to pave the way.  It's gonna be a tough road for the good guys.

As far as next year goes, we have a bunch of young OT's that have been sort of waiting for their chance. If they fail, we're in the soup but a true freshman or two wouldn't have changed that. Now, we do need to get some quality OT guys next year, period.

I agree.  I think Grimes is gonna make chicken salad.  I am hoping he gets the right part of the chicken with the younger players coming up.

Are there any current players, who are being underutilized, that you believe could transition and become a Kam Chancellor type safety?

Lots of them.....Sorry, I could not help myself again.  Maybe McClain since Gus does not trust him at WR lol.
    Underutilized in my mind

Punt returner- Kam Martin or Eli Stove.  Every punt should always be caught unless it is inside the 10.  We watched so many bounce for 20 yards

    RB- Devan Barrett, Malik Miller

That dude named Slant Route.  German dude.

That other guy named Tween Da Hashes.  I think he's French or something.

I realize this is a recruiting thread, but really? Malzahn gets the job after having been offensive coordinator here, even has offensive success as head coach...but his offense needs to be put out to pasture? If he's not supposed to use what got him here, what is he supposed to use? I agree that it should be kept fresh by the OC (whomever it might be at the time), but I think the fundamentals of the Wing T are still pretty sound. You can't be predictable in play calling, no, and you can't run it on first down 17 straight times, either, but just scrapping the whole offense? Come on, man.

I love the Wing but how much do you see the fundamentals of it in this offense lately?  Shotgun hand off up the middle ain't exactly the Wing but I know what you are saying.  What he runs with a RPO QB is a different story

This is exactly why I said he was not committed to Auburn when he did not sign last week.  This has nothing to do with possible staff changes or anything else that has been thrown out there.  If the early signing period stays in it's current format moving forward then Auburn or any other school had better start looking at others to fill the spots if they are not on board.  Sounds cruel to some on here for the kids but this is a business.  You have a spot guaranteed until early signing day.  After Wednesday we would love to have you but if another target wants to sign early on Thursday or Friday then we will take him.

come on man. we doing this already? I am guessing he went there with that king kid.

I am officially refusing to get excited over any defensive prospect that has committed to Auburn if Alabama really wants them.  This one may not end up this way but it seems like more times than not we look like Charlie Brown going to kick the football and having it yanked away at the last second.

Not sure what this means but he's not a target right now.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. We have made things very interesting w/ Luke Ford. Also to be a good TE you have to be physical to some degree and even though HJ is a specimen he does not play a physical game.

Unlikely because RBs don't change their running styles often. The reality is he is a big finesse back. That's not something we need from a RB his size & why a guy like Kavisiey Smoke is higher on the board if the staff does take a 3rd RB in this class.

Means absolutely nothing. You can't get a sense of a RBs physicality & true game ability at camps because of the way they are structured. Every scout & coach will tell you that making a call on a RB based on camp performances is extremely laughable.

Have you even looked at Luke Ford & Nate Watson or do you just want HJ so bad you don't care who else is on the board?

I am not comparing him to Luke.  Yes Luke is a no brainer.  I just see him going to UGA.  Maybe the kid will flop at the next level due to physicality but it appears Bama may be pushing hard now.  I just don't want to put all our eggs in the Luke basket at TE.  Nate is a legacy and was not a take for Auburn before but appears to be a back up plan now. Honest question; would you rather have Kavisiey Smoke in this class or Harold Joiner?
