  1. Is he a forgone thought to this class.  I still, even with a numbers crunch, would take this kid.  At worst he is a better TE than anyone we are going to sign.  The worst thing that could happen is that he signs and does not work out at RB.  He is to me by far the best athlete on the board that can help us at numerous positions.  Instead we are going to sign another kid at TE that will spend 4 years as a non contributor to this team.  I'm giving this guy every opportunity to play RB if thats what he wants.  He will know if he needs to change positions to see the field.  What if he tears it up at RB and is a beast.  He has dominated against elite competition at camps.

Memo to reality: Young people just starting out have to work their way up the pay scale. He's done an excellent job and will certainly get a hefty raise. That doesn't mean he gets the keys to the bank vault.

Also, Auburn's assistants are among the highest paid in college football. They don't normally leave here for a side-way change. If they get promoted by the move, then that's what America is all about.

Mikey I agree with you but look at what Kodi is getting paid.  Is Kodi worth 150K a year more than Travis.  I don't think so.  Travis has put in more time to boot.

    Chip Kelly or bust

Heyul naw!  Another arrogant ^%%$^% who only knows his system and that is it.  We need a football coach.  We don't need a system coach or a HUNH coach.  We need a coach that knows how to take the players he has and go play football while scheming and gameplanning around their strengths.  We do not need another this is all I know so this is what we are doing coach that does not even understand a route tree.

Dude's length and athletism is off the charts. Been having a nagging feeling that he would entertain other offers though. I sure hope not. Having a heat seeker missile like him and sherwood does wonders for us for the future.

Me too.  We can't get the fax from him soon enough.  When I watch players, what separates the good ones to me is the mental not the physical.  You have to hate.  You have to be the Alpha Dog.  If you don't have that type of mental edge then your just another kid with length and size that should be playing WR or basketball.

  5. WTF!!!!!!!!!!! What is little Jimmy Mac selling down there?????  Florida is not trending up under his watch.  Where would this leave us at the DT position for the 2018 class.  We have struck out with bases loaded on the DL this year.  Can someone like 23 or anyone close to the program get on the horn and get Garner to pose naked in a boat with a large shark.  Please have him make it look as if he is really enjoying being wrapped up with it.

    Don't count on it.

This.  If we get a 14 point lead on anyone Gus will be on the headset telling Lindsey to tone it down so fast it ain't funny.  Then when we need to go hard again we won't be able to catch that momentum like we had.  Then after the game we will hear how we were in position to make plays but just did not execute and get the job done lol!  I am somewhat serious and somewhat attempting humor but I sure do hope we don't do this.  Like others have said when coaches are telling kids you have one foot out the door you better beat the brake pads off of those teams to show otherwise.  Just look at the comments from the Ford kid, TE, about Auburn needing to show him what they are going to do this year.  If we see anymore play-calling that has Chandler Cox under center then you know Gus is in charge and the season will mercifully be his last in my opinion.  I think all of us expect to see a much more aggressive wide open offense that uses our talent at WR and stretches the field both vertically and most importantly horizontally.  The key to our offense clicking and being successful this year will be the pressure we put on the LB position.  If our offense does not give the LB any other responsibility other than the run it will be tough.  Zero passes to the TE and zero quick slants make the game way too simple for a defense to defend.

  7. Thats right.  I thought it was testing but it was the tourney.  That to me was the turning point where we lost him. We somehow need to get this kid back on campus and show him our depth at the safety position after this year and also show him how well Steele has done with our defense.  Steele has quietly improved our D and kids need to know about it.  It's like ugag now proclaiming to be RB U.  If you don't show these kids otherwise then they just believe it.  Ugag has had some good backs since 1980 but I would stack ours up with them any day.

  8. One thing is for sure.  We have had staffs that were great recruiters and we have had staffs that were great coaches.  It's been a while since we had both at the same time.  The schools we lose recruits to have very well respected position coaches who are also great recruiters.  I have to imagine, and I don't know this to be true, that Greg Brown does not have the kids dying to get to know him outside of football.  He just does not exude coolness or swagger.  If you are going to be this type of personality then you better be a guy that everyone fears and respects in order to get the kids.

Another thing that has absolutely killed us over the years is the inability to strike when the iron is hot.  For the most part our success on the football field did not translate to success in recruiting.  I don't know why.  I had grand illusions of killer classes lined up for Auburn in 2011 and so forth after the MNC.  Did not happen.  Clemson on the other hand has parlayed their success into a recruiting machine and it is not slowing down.

  9. One day I hope to hear the story of how we let Smoke get away.  I swear we get players interested in Auburn and then it is like they are gone the next day or not visiting Big Cat or something.  If Smoke had testing on Saturday during Big Cat someone should have done everything possible to get this kid on campus after the test for Saturday night.  That is when Smoke was high on us and that is when Smoke started looking at others schools after that.

Perhaps, but you didn't answer the question. Would you move A-day back to where it was and miss the recruiting road visits by our coaches or leave A-day where Gus put it and have some guys not visit because of ACT conflicts? Which would you choose, and why do you think Gus made the wrong choice?

Its easy.  You have A-Day last weekend.  Its not rocket science to start spring ball so that you have A-Day before the ACT and the spring coaches visits for recruiting.  You people act like this stuff is difficult and can't be done.  I hope you are not like this in your professional lives.

  11. That makes a lot of sense.  Not bunching the WRs together would open things up some.  I would still love to see three things added.  The slant pass against a blitzing 9 man box, a screen pass to a RB out of the backfield, and some seam routes to the TE.  Not only are they not long developing routes which helps us but they also require the defense to respect it instead of defending the run with 9 and daring us to pass.
