Which makes me ask again.  Has the program hit its ceiling with Pearl? We have got past the round of 32 a total of 1 time during his watch

That’s a question no one probably wants to answer because of where Auburn came from. In the real world it’s about where we currently are and hope to get to. Georgia football eventually said this isn’t good enough and it paid off. Maybe have to revisit this in about two years .

*On a personal note I think being under Jordan Brand or Nike would help in Basketball. I wouldn’t wear a pair of UA bball shoes even if they were free lol. UA is pretty on par with Nike in the football department.

  2. Aiden became unplayable today. This is why some people were wondering how did he make the all freshman team. Played all of 13 minutes while Tre had to play more minutes than usual. For the life of me still don't understand why Aiden switched to the left hand to make that layup when it was much easier with the right. Hopefully, things get better for the young man . Oh well life goes on and the sun is still going to rise. Enjoy life and be safe

Maybe it affected our preparation all week. We definitely weren't focused, or this would not have happened. If we were prepared the best we could have been and played even a B game, we would have won the game solidly.

The head scratching thing is Auburn came into the game hot. This game was played like they had been off for months. The bottom completely fell out

Outside of 4, Yale was garbage.  Auburn was worse.  This was one of the hardest Auburn games that I’ve watched.  It was so clear that Auburn was the better team and they’d get up 10 but then there would be a bad pass or a dumb shot that would kill all momentum.  Auburn beat themselves.

Turnovers have been a thing for Auburn all year when they had a chance to blow the game open.  Not many teams made them pay for it. Auburn won games but these bad habits always existed

The players and coaches would never admit it, but I think we probably underestimated them, at least subconsciously. That is one thing that coaches always worry about. You watch a team on film l, and you worry about your guys thinking, "man, these guys suck".

If they actually underestimated them after seeing what happened the day prior that’s an epic fail all the way around

After watching video of Yale this week, I'm still dumbfounded how we lost to that team. Especially in such an important game.

A lot of things change when it’s all on the line.  Unfamiliarity with a team and how u execute is clutch situations is critical. Auburn hasn’t had many pressure situations in which resulted in a win. It’s probably safe to say if u keep the game close u have a chance

Exactly, it's the same story over and over again, which makes it weird because if its obvious to us you'd think it's obvious to him and his coaching staff. In his post game interview he said their weaknesses finally caught up with them. It's obvious he meant at guard.

He don’t have to tell the people who have been watching all year twice. If only they would have taken care of the ball. . I think in every loss there were high turnovers

App State was better than Yale.

Not sure about that. App State won at home and isn’t in the tournament. I would say subjective . IIRC Auburns last neutral site lost was Baylor

The main reason this loss is so depressing is we lost to a team that we had a lot more talent than. I may not like it, but I can stomach losing to a better team. No excuse for losing this game.

That’s the thing unlike football u don’t have to drive the field on a bunch of dudes and try to score . All u need is one dude that can get u buckets. Auburn gets contributions from the team. Dont have a guy u can say here u go take us home  that can make shots and free throws

  10. I will say CBM a boneheaded decision. Very surprised Auburn came out flat after the half. Since J Will is the winniest Auburn player  would have loved for him to a have not today approach. Yale won’t be winning this game in my watch. I know he rolled his ankle but also know that’s not his demeanor

Do they use a different kind of basketball in the tourney? If not, then this makes no sense. We just went 27-7 in supposedly one of the best conferences in the country, without good guard play. So I don’t buy the oversimplification.

Ur two biggest examples of good guard play Bama and Tamu

No games were won because of them . It was in spite of them. The blow out wins were because they took care of the  ball and hit a few shoots

What about the other 3 times? What about when we were a 2 seed and had the best offensive player AND the best defender in the country? I think we need to win games and stop using “they just were better on this particular day - it happens” logic.

Guard play is still an issue . They are the quarterbacks of the team. Without them being at least mediocre u won’t go fair. Today could have been make your layups and value the ball. That would have won u the game

And in his 10 years of being here, has he recruited one that has committed and stayed for their entire time here? I can't think of one.... I like the small guards but only if they can shoot and actually be a threat to get down hill.

Sure would be nice to get some but I won't hold my breath.

So many unfortunate things since 2019. Okoro lead team seemed to be clicking and then Covid hit. He was able to secure Cooper but not without problems. Then he was in and out of the lineup. I guess he had Scoot but changed his mind and Westry didn’t work out to name a few

Texas A&M up on Nebraska by 20+. Aggies have really good guard play.

In tournament play good guards is paramount. In every tournament loss it’s a constant reminder to Auburn. U need a floor general

Our guards missed those free throws.... They are good guys but they are good back ups. They aren't those guys. I knew they both were going to miss the free throws.

Just shows you need to be able to identify talent and have them on deck.

I'm watching Mark out produce all of our guards on 7 minutes...... Its aggravating..... We had a big stage if we do this right

Absolutely Harper and Bryce makes those free throws. Can give  Broome a semi pass for all the other things he does and the abuse he takes

I do coach, and I we have had several games where the other team is not as athletic, but seemingly hit everything they are throwing up early. I tell me guys, "no, that isn't good enough, you are STILL giving him too much room". I tell them, "I could beat you if you give me that much room, make him be an athlete ". Really get on their a-- about it. And once we do that, we always take over the game.

Idk about your coaching expertise but from watching bball when a guy gets on a heater one guy isn’t going to stop him no matter what. Card was almost inside dude jersey and he still made the shot

We definitely should win anyway but we are deep as a team but as far as perimeter talent we are very thin. I mentioned that and the pace you just talked about. I knew EXACTLY how we would lose if we were to lose. It's sad because we were literally one, two players away

IMO , Auburn would still have to pay for not having the greatest guard play. If it didnt  show against SDST most definitely against UCONN if they played
